Cole is quiet but was very well self-regulated during session. He was very excited to ski and was not fearful of the snow or putting on gear. During this initial session his primary limitations included decreased core control, decreased balance while on skis, and poor attention to his surroundings. However, he was able to maintain an upright ski stance using the bamboo pole and was able to attend to his surroundings for brief moments with verbal and visual cues. [Side Note: Cole's dad accidentally signed him up for a 6-week program through the chipmunk corner on the first day (dad reported the session did not go well) and so his boots and skis are still ready for pickup at the normal location but they don't have "adaptive" written on the top... Just an FYI.]
Callie Ward, Jimmy To
1. Rode the Easy Street Lift (Cole said, "This was my dream!"). 2. Skied down easy street with support of bamboo pole twice while following an instructor. 3. Improved in ability to shuffle in skis without support, make a wedge shape with edgie wedgie support, stop, and begin to link turns. 4. He really seemed to enjoy the morning.
1. Attend to surroundings more frequently, progress in remembering to look ahead while skiing. 2. Practice ski stance with supportive equipment. 3. Progress toward stopping on command.
The bamboo pole and the edgie wedgie worked well. I might try either the Ski Pal or tethers so that Cole will have more opportunity to adjust his arms and his stance while skiing.

decreased core control, decreased safety awareness and awareness of surroundings, easily distracted, very persistent about wanting to go the top of the mountain but is not yet safe to do so, but very sweet and absolutely loves skiing. Ask his dad for snacks for the lift rides because he usually gets hungry during lessons and is subsequently distracted.
Samantha Specht, Jimmy To, Kellen Weigand
Skiied short distances on magic carpet area without supports (e.g. tethers, edgie wedgies, bamboo pole) and was able to stop by multiple times (though this is still challenging for him); began linking turns with light assist from tethers; put his skis on himself without holding onto anyone or anything; able to ski off the lift without falling while holding instructor's hand.
Continue to practice stops and wide turns on magic carpet area without equipment and on easy street with equipment. If he is skiing well and is relatively focused/attentive on the next lesson I would love to take him up the quad (*with tethers*) and take green runs down for longer practice of the techniques we've been working on.
I suggest continuing to use edgie wedgies and tethers for safety.

Easy Street, Quad lift (used twice)
Have a hand on him when getting off the lift because he tends to just go forward and not stop. Needs reminders to put hands on knees/lean forward because he tends to lean far backward. I suggest using the edgie wedgies and tethers especially if you take him on greens off the quad because he is very distracted by his surroundings and still needs help with stopping and linking turns. Ask his dad for snacks to eat on the lift. When he gets tried he gets especially floppy and goofy.
Samantha Specht, Callie Ward, Jimmy To
Went on the quad lift (his big goal for the season). Skied down Santa Fe trail twice with tethers. Had a huge smile on his face the whole time even when falling.
Keep practicing turns, stopping on command, and attention during lesson/safety awareness.
No, I would stick with edgie wedgies and tethers for now.

Went through the terrain park and went over 2 jumps! Cole loves Adventure Land Area
More terrain park and obstacles.
Will continue to test Cole without summa and tethers but he needs to work on speed control.

Attempted Terrain park, enjoyed Adventure Land and wanted to go into the trees more or attempting jumps. Able to wedge to a stop easily.
Improve attention to turns and avoiding obstacles with more advance awareness. Try to come to a gradual stop rather than an abrupt wedge stop. Standing upright more, tended to bend at the waist while skiing and holding his arms out to the side.

Struggles with confidence and wanting to process to next level. Needs a lot of support, positive reinforcement and good energy. He is very excited to ski though!

Had a fun time, great first lesson and made a goal for next lesson
Get on the Quad, ski without tethers.
Hopefully ski without tethers, maybe start using a bamboo stick to learn how to turn?

Needs lots of positive reinforcement to build confidence on bigger slopes. Usually needs short little breaks of water and fruit snacks. Dad usually is around the lifts to bring Cole water.
Alma LGA + Emily Z.
Took the Quad up! Went down easy street.
Go down Midland + make some wider turns.
I think maybe we could use a bamboo pole to learn to make some wider turns. Will try next time.

We got down Midland! Made many consecutive turns and were able to recover after we took some falls!
Become more comfortable on Midland and try to make more consecutive turns
We tried tethers however we didn't end up using it much, so I think we will try different techniques to make more turns.
