12 | Translate into the yellow cells in your column. When a cell is done, change its background colour to green. If there is a problem (eg. you need more information, the English text isn't clear enough, etc.), change the background colour to red and leave a comment on the cell (right click and select "Insert comment"). 22 | A good idea is to start with the blue cells - these are the ones that are in need of changing. When a cell has been changed, change the background colour of the WHOLE ROW to yellow (To let the translators know something has been changed). Then change the background of the English cell to green (to let the devs know that the game strings files need to updated). If the change is very small and does not change the meaning of the text (eg. correcting a spelling error), the row does not need to change to yellow. If in doubt, change it to yellow anyway. 31 | Part descriptions are encyclopedic in nature (use the style of Wikipedia as a reference). The base language is UK English. Please try to avoid American spellings (we'll add a US English locale down the track). Bear in mind that not every user has a high level of technical knowledge. The first sentence of a part description should explain what that part is and what function it performs for the car. Acronyms and abbrieviations should also be expanded at this point. Also, most users will be reading the descriptions not from curiosity, but because they are trying to decide whether this part is the correct choice. Therefore descriptions should clearly outline the pros and cons of the part and/or give examples of the kinds of cars that generally use it. Paragraphs should be seperated by two line breaks. In the game, descriptions are placed in a very tall, narrow space. This means that short paragraphs look long, and long ones look intimidating. So paragraph breaks are encouraged. The size of this block allows for a large capacity, torquey and reasonably powerful engine without requiring excessive revs. Its large cylinders however can cause a high level of vibration and make it difficult to achieve high RPM, whilst its bulky block makes it somewhat heavier than smaller designs. 33 | The catalytic converter's purpose is to convert harmful gasses in engine exhaust to less harmful gasses. It consists of a metal casing, filled with a honeycomb of ceramic. The ceramic is coated with a catalyst such as platinum, providing the chemical reaction that cleans the exhaust gasses. Catalytic converters provide a large reduction in the harmful emissions of an engine, however they do restrict exhaust flow, and the platinum required makes them expensive to build. | |||||||||||||||||||
34 | The muffler is a device placed in the exhaust system of an engine with the aim of reducing the noise emitted from the exhaust. The metal canister of the muffler contains piping specially designed to reflect the pressure waves produced by the hot exhaust gasses, causing them to cancel each other out and reducing noise. Because the exhaust gasses must travel through various pipes and chambers, mufflers will always restrict the ability of the exhaust to leave the engine, harming power and economy.
