A group of commmited members of ACT-IAC have worked together to help bring attention to the climate impact of data centers. Data center growth is having increasing demands on our electricity grid, fresh water supplies and our ability to manage e-waste.

This worksheet is designed for those who are making choices about procuring data and processing resources in the cloud. The questions are designed to be simple yes/no questions which will provide a score to help teams make an informed choice.

The most important thing at this point is to have this discussion within your teams and with your vendors to ensure that it is clear that this is an issue which is guiding future decisions. Vendors need to hear that agencies are beginning to make decisions based on the environmental impact.

If you are looking at this as a Google Sheet, start by making a copy of this document so that you can edit it. The document is distributed in read-only mode, and aggregation functionality will not work without edit access.

Simply go to the Worksheet (the next sheet in this spreadsheet). Review the Factors (Column A) and their associated Questions (Column B). Make sure that hte wording is appropriate for the conversation you are having with your vendors. Complete the Response (Column C).

The results will be added as you go and will appear in C23 to C28. If you are evaluating multiple vendors or asking these questions over time, you can simply copy and rename the Worksheet to meet your needs.
