Last Saturday, we, a group of 15 people visited a special school for visually challenged children. It was a memorable experience for all of us. We started off with a memory game followed by identifying things through touch and other sensual games for half an hour or so.. Then, we realised that these kids are not ordinary. They are extremely talented and most of them are blessed with beautiful voices. You can see the videos, I will attach them along with this note. They are so warm and spoke with us like they knew us since years.|
Then, we took a class on social manners and on ways to overcome anti bullying Then, we made them play a mass game based on animal sounds. They enjoyed the session thoroughly. They were too sweet, they asked our contact numbers and made us promise them to come back more often.
It was an emotional and a fulfilling experience for all of us, to see them dreaming big and the way they are spreading happiness despite their challenges.
At the end, we also celebrated one of our friend's birthday with the children.
We all made a commitment to visit the school whenever we are free and dispersed. 😊😊

After that I talked to them for like 45 minutes about the topics of the essay and what they should write, and gave them some ideas about the topics and told them the importance of this particular task and how it will help them think more clearly about their future.

This was followed by a sports session with all the primary school students ( 1st to 5th class) . We had coordinated in conducting basketball, football and skipping competitions.||We would have a follow up session at the same school based on convenience of the prinicipal there.||4||This was my first session and thus is very special and memorable experience. The enthusiasm among the students was infectious. We could help them in communication (how to introduce oneself), how to play basketball. The principal at the school was very warm and happy with our presense as were the students and were already enquiring on when we would be back. Spending time with such young kids gave me a sense of pure joy, a sense of duty of impacting such young , talented and impressionable minds. |June 23||Tiljala Killarney Municipal Corporation School.||Conducted an interactive session in a school as per details given below||The class was made up of students from classes 3,4,5 all combined together. This was particularly a challenge because we couldn't teach same thing to everyone. The topic we taught needed to be broke down in varying levels of difficulty and taught separately to each class. We taught them factorisation while I checked up on their homework. Many had not done their homework so I asked them to do it then itself. Afterwards I have out sums to the class 3 children on multiplication. They had a bit of difficulty doing those.||27th June 2017||15||The feeling is different when the children can you sir. Yesterday I conducted 4 sessions in a school( I have mentioned about the school before).
It was a very intrstng day.. I am teaching them English..So I discussed with the teachers and decided that I would not speak our regional language. The kids were informed that I dont know Malayalam.
First session was in scnd standard..It was very difficult to make them understand things in English...I taught them basic etiquettes...We played a noun game...introduced overselves and role played the etiquettes we discussed...Same happened in the third standard..With The fourth standard kids..same things were done and an additional activity was story telling..Also the students sang songs...The first standard kids were so restless..They were taught basic etiquettes...we couldnt play any games..
There were kids with disabilities...one of them writes only curved letters...So he doesn't know how to write English alphabets.. I called him to the front and asked him qstns...His classmates transalated and he answered...Then I took him near the board and asked him to write A..He started drwng Something...I held his hand and made hin write A-Z.. His frnds were clapping when he was writing and the boy was smiling..He often smiles..I made him pat his shldr saying he s a good boy ..He then went to his place and wrote every letter he knows, called me and asked me to check...We again clapped and encouraged him..There was another kid..She also has a similar problem with sentences..She was also made to do the same...she then went to her place and tried to write "Have a nice day" which was written on the blackboard...
The kids there are so good. They help each other...they take care of these kids with disabilities...They do things for others that the grownups even don't think about...
The first session started at 10 am and the last session came to an end by 4 pm...

We had had an opportunity to interact with 2 dozen children.. We started off with our introductions and got to know each other well.. We played some good tollywood videos to gain their interest in the first place. Soon after that, we spoke about india and her great heroes of the land, states and capitals, and showed them some historic monuments in the country in an audiovisual. Later, we made them play minute to win it games and by the end of the game, we thought them the importance of teamwork. We ended the session with some more interesting games like minefield and stick it up and then showed them some moral video stories.

After that the students came over one by one and showcased their singing and story telling skills. Initially they were a bit shy but as the session progressed i saw them actively participating in each and every activity. |

I visited the school, met the teachers and the principal, talked to them and understood the problems. The teachers shared what they expect from me. Principal said that they would inform me after discussing with the Management.||I could realise how lucky I am to have everything in life that I wish for. |Went to inquire on how we could conduct sessions there||The activity was brought to light by phoning the orphanages given to us by justdial. It took us nearly 1.5hrs to reach there.||Will revert back to them on Monday||The place we cisited was a school cum home for children from the nearby red light area. They wanted us to teach the children basic etiquettes and hoped that we could give them a hand in pulling out the children from their deprived conditions and construct a better future for them. We realised the graveness of the matter when they shared with us on how they handled the kids alone.|

|June 23||Baghuati , VIP Road , Dum Dum||Approached the complexes for conducting activities in their societys||The objective of the activity was initially to try get permission from the complex authorities in order to conduct activities there, but as it was expected to turn out it is difficult to get past the caretakers to get in touch with the higher ups in the social community. So all i could do was drop a letter with their caretaker and asked them to forward it to the complex President or Secretary.||Any Sunday after 11am||The caretakers are quite redundant and conservative when it comes to outsiders trying to get in to the complex premises. ( but yeah that is their work)|

We started with talking about importance of consistency in life, then we played an Advertisement game in which we gave them a product and asked them to enact and sell the product. It started with an interactive discussion on "Team work" followed by riddles & quizzes. Finally, students were engaged in games like "word continuation" (where subsequent participants had to say a word that started with the ending letter of the previous participant's word) and "passing-the-handkerchief" (similar to musical chair) and then in relation to the last activity, students were asked to do something creative. They demonstrated their musical, dancing, acting, quizzing and oratory skills. Finally the session ended with a positive feedback from the students.||19||The more I attend these sessions (I've had the opportunity to attend just two. I'd love to attend more!), the more I'm able to justify my reasons for engaging myself with Adore India & its visions. |May 21||A Street in balaji nagar, kukatpally Hyderabad.||I interviewed a Street vendor.||I had interviewed a street vendor near my home. Her name is susheela aged 38. She started working aged 10 in construction site. Then she worked as maid. Working as maid has made her hands numb when they are wet for long(more than hour).Since then, She has been selling banana and flowers on street for about 15 years. She is a warm lady and shared moments of her life and answered all my queries. Its a great experience and insightful for me.The moment that moved me was... when i asked "Are you satisfied with your life?". she replied "Yes" with smile and with out hesitation.Coming to the topic dignity, her view is "educated and civilized people treat me well. Housewives and blue collar workers(such as watchmen and rickshawala) act rude while bargaining. It doesn't bother me anymore and have learnt to handle them too". Personally I feel that it is very hard to save Street vendors with expanding super markets. Hope someone is smart enough to outclass corporate and save these guys.||I haven't thought of it yet.||1||I signed for adore India and then got busy with work and forgot about it. |May 22||New Green Future Academy, Marchi||Conducted an interactive session in a school as per details given below||On May 22nd 2017, I conducted my first session in Patna, in a remote village called Marchi which is located 12-15 km away from the Patna town. I conducted this session in a primary school ‘New Green Future Academy’. It was not a tough task to convince the principle for such session as he was also reluctant to give his students something new apart from book. He introduced me to 5th class students and from thereafter I conducted my session for more than one and a half hour. When I entered the class, students assumed like other teachers, I am also going to repeat the same lecture, same way of teaching and learning method. That was the reason, they were not looking enthusiastic initially. So, I first started with my introduction, then I asked them to introduce themselves one by one and as the time passed, we (students and I) started feeling comfortable and now everyone there had to say something. Some of them were good at drawing, some of them at singing while others were good in outdoor games as they said. I was amazed to see their talent. A boy named “Anshul” was so brilliant that he drew India’s map perfectly along with the location of states and India’s neighbour countries. Similarly, another boy whose name was “Prateek” sung the national song “Vande Mataram” in one flow and I could hardly find any fault in it. This way, everyone showed his/her art and talent which were outstanding. Standing there to cheer up them for the talents they had made me feel glad that I conducted session for such students. Then I bubbled the social issues such as cleanliness, mannerism and behaviour, importance of outdoor games. One thing which I noticed that it was very easy to mould them in right path. Motivating them to keep the environment clean didn’t took me more than minutes. In fact, they taught me to also plant the trees. Slowly, they started taking lots of interest in the session and asked many new questions over to answer me. I discussed with them about computers, internet and social networking sites. They had lots of queries to ask and I kept on answering till the time permits. I was praised for it by the principal. But for me, the achievement was when students asked me “When will you come back?”. When I left the class, they were busy in collecting the wastes and throwing into the dustbin.|
After completing the session, not only students got to learn something new but I also got a lot of new things to learn. Their interest, zeal to know something new encouraged me to conduct such sessions as much as I can. But it also makes me stunned that such glorious students with this level of potential get no chance to grow further after getting a certain level of education. It happens mainly because either their parents can’t afford higher education or they don’t get the platform for higher studies in their locality. On asking them, I got to know that these students have dream to become doctors, engineers and soldiers. Although these dreams are not high above the sky that they can’t achieve it. Our government have provided many schemes and plans for such students but no one is there to guide them. To give them the right direction to achieve their goal. And if we could do that work, guide them to achieve their goal, betterment would be counted not theirs only, but of the society, the state and ultimately to the country. This is what I dreamed of while joining “Adore India”, and I am happy that I am on my track. It’s just the beginning, pen wouldn’t go down here.

Class 8-I spoke them on our Educational Systems,its Flaws,and that how that its only we who can fill up these flaws.I asked them about our politicians and and their views on them.All I found was Negetive reviews. So,next time I have a Session with this class I plan to speak to them about our Indian Politicians.

They had no idea until I told them and all were shocked to hear , when I asked them about the reviews on governments work done they said they don't do anything , they only eat money and stuff but then I explained them that the projects which are taken up now is for the future and it will help make a new ok India, told them to make their family member to vote every election as every vote counts. Then I told them about the modes of digital payments and advantages of using this , also told them to contact me if they want to know more about the method and want to start in there shops. Told them about the adhar card and advantages of it to. Then I played a game where I made everyone write there name in a piece of paper and then randomly gave everyone each paper and told them to write 2 good points about them , my motive was to build unity among them by doing this ,but then I noticed that they lack making sentences also and spelling errors ,so I spoke to the principal there and he told us to take English class also on weekends .
Today's session was the best I have conducted as everyone was got something new to learn and they took in also.

I took permission from Headmistress prior to going to school on the day to conduct this project with class 9 students both English and Telugu medium. I explained the project and she gave nod for proceeding with the activity and assigned 2 teachers to assist me in handling the students. The main theme of the project is that the students have to rank a certain items in order of their importance to survive in a desert when their plane crashes . Students used their knowledge in physical sciences and biological sciences working individually and in group. They were very happy to find their performance individually and in a group. Teachers appreciated the content of the project and gave feedback that it was lot better than national science fare competition. Students also understood how much rusty their brains are following the regular curriculum of the secondary education. Every student was asked to take a paper and write down their marks in the each subject by taking average of 2 recent tests, then write their favourite subject and then their dream job or career. Then the CAREER Option form available in the adore India reference page is distributed to the students. Students are asked to check whether they are getting highest marks in their favourite subjects and then does their favourite subject aligns with their dream career. After that each and every career option in the form is explained briefly and answered few questions on how to choose stream of study for a particular choice. Examples are quoted taking flight engineer career choice and computer programmer analyst . The form is taken from the adore India resource page. The activity started with a memory test by showing some random prints of 20 pictures with names and points on top. The students are asked to write down the maximum names of the pictures they remember and asked to calculate the score . Most of them fumbled and not able to get decent score quoting reasons like less time, more picture etc... The reason for par performance is attributed to lack of methodology and time management. Then the activity sheet is distributed to all and guided to complete the self analysis sheet. The students calculated their scores individually and then a short counselling session is arranged one on one basis and areas of improvement are suggested. The students are advised to keep the sheet with them and informed to re do the activity by themselves after some days and notice the change in their time management. The activity name is "Dr APJ Abdul kalam Ten oaths for students and youth". The oaths are explained to the students and everyone read out loud all the oaths and made signature on the sheet . The students are informed to keep sheet with their signature in their living/study room preferably stuck to wall so that daily they can go through the oaths and inculcate them into their life.I also made signature on the sheet containing oaths along with the students . They were motivated how to achieve the same.||It was a 2-3 hours session. I visited this place, it is more of a community service initiative rather than a registered school. |
The kids there do not go to any school but are taught here only free of cost and all of their stationery and everything is also taken care of.
So today I had approximately 2 hours with them. I asked each of them to tell what they want to become in future and what change will they bring about, basically what will they do... And then I asked them to draw the same ... their future
The kids come from very deprived backgrounds and have never been schooled so they drew whatever they could... It was really fun to be with them and listen to what they dreamt of...

|April 6||BHARAT RATNA HIGH SCHOOL/DK ROAD/ AMEERPET HYDERABAD||Implemented a particular project as per details below (CQ/ CP/IOMD/DOW etc)||I visited the school and took appointment for a session with class IX students ( now they are about to start class X) . students are free for afternoon session and spent 3 hrs with the students under supervision of school assistant. I took print out of some of the paintings related to creative quest submitted by our volunteers in social networking.I showed them the print out as a reference. I explained them quoting example of APJ Abdul kalam life story and his desire to work for country. For this i conducted another activity called Ten oath Pledge of Abdul kalam. The students raised some queries about our country and i answered swiftly. Then i gave a time frame of 45 days for the students to submit their ideas. The impact of my activity is very good . When i went for collecting the ideas so many students who missed the opportunity requested to give chance for participating in the creative quest. The school assistant also requested to conduct the session every year. Out of the total 11 students who attended the activity 3 students were able to submit ideas after 45 days. Others failed to produce ideas but were desirous enough that they will contribute to the society.||3rd week of May||11||The school assistant took the two fold brochure and told that he would share with other teachers in other schools so that they can also contact Adore India for wonderful student activities. I am ecstatic to receive such a warm feedback from the school.|

Looking forward to next week.|
