A walk behind the dam produced the expected Tree Sparrow on the feeders, though just one, with a singing Dipper on the river. The gull roost was busy, often the case on Sundays, producing the first ‘white-winger’ of the winter in the form of a second-winter Iceland Gull. One of two Redwings behind the hides had missing feathers on the nape and mantle and a drooped right wing suggesting a close encounter with a predator of some sort, despite this and the weather it had found a snow free patch besides a fallen log and was throwing leaf litter around with some gusto and pecking away at the exposed invertebrates, living in the moment.
