SWISS ROUND ROBIN
TIC-TAC-TOE FORMAT

GENERAL FORMAT

The Round Robin format will consist of competing against other players, one at a time.

For the first match, each Player will be randomly paired up against an opponent
Each pair of opponents will be assigned to one of the Basket Stations
We will try to have no more than two pairs of competitors assigned to each station
(But that depends on how many people show up.)

The game play will be a little unique. See Match Details below

We will play as many Rounds as time allows

The Player with the best Win Loss record at the end of the final Round, wins

MATCH DETAILS

Each match will consist of a game of "Putting Tic-Tac-Toe"
(Instead of a standard 3x3 Tic-Tac-Toe grid, we will be using a 4x4 grid)
Here is how it will work:

There will be a 4x4 putting "grid" set up
That grid will represent a Tic-Tac-Toe board
The 1st row of 4 putting lines will be set at 18' from the basket
The 2nd row 21'; the 3rd row 24'; and the 4th row 27'
So the putting lines will look like this:

18 ft ___ ___ ___ ___

21 ft ___ ___ ___ ___

24 ft ___ ___ ___ ___

27 ft ___ ___ ___ ___

The first player (Player X) will choose a spot from which to take a shot
They can choose any spot they want
If they make it, they get an X in that grid location
If they miss, that spot remains blank
Player O will then do the same thing (trying to get an O in a grid location)
The goal is to get a Tic-Tac-Toe (4 in a row) in any direction - horizontal, vertical, or diagonal
Players continue to alternate turns

After each player has taken 4 turns, the rules change slightly
Now, if a player misses, that location goes to the other player (instead of remaining blank)
So if Player X misses, the grid location becomes an O (and visa versa)
This rule is meant to keep games moving

The first player to get a Tic-Tac-Toe is the winner of that Round
If neither player gets a Tic-Tac-Toe, the Player owning most spots wins
If each player owns the same number of spots (8 spots each), the game ends in a tie

Choose you spots wisely!

THE FLOW

The flow for each Round/Match will work as follows:

Let’s say there are two sets of competitors paired up against each other at your Station
Player A is playing against Player B. And Player C is playing against Player D
Players A and B should complete their match first
(Players C and D can help keep score for Players A and B)
Once Players A and B finish their match, Players C and D should begin
(Players A and B can help keep score for Players C and D)

Once both matches (all four players) are done, report the results to the scoring table
Once all match results are recorded, new pairings for the next Round of matches will be determined

Remember you are only competing against the one player you are paired with for each match,
even though there will probably be other players at your same Station

NOTES
16

NOTE 1: This is a Round Robin tournament. However, because of time limitations, it is unlikely everyone will play against everyone else.

NOTE 2: The pairing match-ups after the first round are not random. We are using an app that applies a “Swiss Style Pairing System”. With that system, players will be paired against other players based on their current records. Players who are doing well, are more likely to be paired against other players who are also doing well. Players who are not doing well, are more likely to play against other players who are also not doing well. (But you will not play the same player twice.)

NOTE 3: Player X (the player who goes first) will be the Player who currently has the lower record of the two Players. If both Players currently have the same record, Player X will be chosen randomly by the app we are using.
