Interested in buying a car in the next ~5 years?YesYesYesYes Yes
4
Where will you do most of your research for car buying (online, in person, in print)?Based on personal experienceBased on prior experience, looking online for used cars, may test drive at dealership or from CraigslistOnlineOnlineOnline, talking to friends who own cars
5
What are the most important factors?Price, reliability (average repair cost), safety1. safety rating, reliability
2. all wheel drive (snow and ice)
3. fuel economy
1. Sustainability I would prefer not to have a car at all so if I did have a car it would have to be really efficient.1 - Affordability, 2 - Fuel efficiency, Enironmental impact1 - affordability 2- coolness of the car, aesthetics 3- features, 4- environmental impact
6
How important is environmental impact to you when selecting a car?A little bit, but mostly because of gas costsOnly consider this as part of fuel economy and would consider buying a hybrid, but they are generally bad for driving in snow and icevery importantImportant, budget is a bigger factorsomewhat important
7
How important are the economics (upfront price, gas) to you when selecting a car?It is the biggest factorFuel economy is third most important (see above)very importantvery importantnot very important
8
What sources would you use now (aside from this game) to learn about the environmental impact of cars? (Or would this not apply to you?)Would not look for emissions dataWould not look for emissions datalook at internet articles about car buying, online reviewsWould not look for emissions data

Would you be interested in clicking on and playing this type of game if it was advertised to you on a car buying website?YesFairly unlikely, though possibleYeah I might click on itYes, I would like to play the game, but not want to spend too much time, not more than 2-4 minutesnot likely, I dont click on ads in general
12
Would you be interested in sharing the game with friends, family, social media?Likely notIf the data ends up being usefulProbably not. I don't really post on social media.I would share with people considering buying a car, depending on how useful the information I get in the game if its something memorable. If I enjoy the game I might share it on twitter or friends
13
14
How much time do you think you would spend on this type of game?5 mins<10 min5-10 minutes2-4 minutes5-10 minuets
15
Do you feel that you would enjoy playing this game?Maybe, but would be most interested in the information at the endMaybe, if the data ends up being usefulMaybe, depends.Yes, if its challenging enough, I would be more interested if its difficultIt’s a little too early to say that, I don’t want it to make me feel bad about buying a product, it might make me buy the product with guilt, or not buy. Maybe if the game says play the game and win an electric car, it would be more appealing. And I'll end up learning about electric cars a bit

Do you feel that you would learn new things from this game? The decision points in this game seem a little too simplistic in that you likely will always pick the most fuel-efficient / lowest-emissions car. It would make me consider CO2 emissions as a factor, but seeing the PDF guide at the end could potentially accomplish the same goal. The CO2 emissions information would be new, especially if it does not perfectly correlate with fuel economy informationYeah, it seems very educational.Yes, on if the game can surprise me, I know a bit about cars and environmental impact, it depends on if the game gives me something more than I already know Its common knowledge that cars cause pollution and its bad, that will kind of get reinforced more. Its also about how you are presenting the information. If you are saying metric ton/10K miles, it might not be relatable. If you tell me the data in the context of trees or people developing breathing issues or something else, it would be more relatable and memorable.
19
Do you feel that the cars in the game represent cars you might actually buy?Yes, it would be good to filter by the type of car you want to buy (sedan vs. SUV) upfront so you are comparing the cars you are interested inNeed to be able to select based on desired features (AWD, brand - Subaru, Toyota)Yeah. It seems like there are a lot of different models.Overall, it feels like a game for a younger audience, catered towards a middle school crowd, based on the car graphics, a realistic-looking car might not help.I see them as representation, not very real life - like cars
20
Do you feel that the data in the game is informative? Do you understand it?The buying guide at the end seems like the most useful piece of information, and it does not seem like you need to play the game to get there. Only having that piece would be the most helpful part of the game.In general, feel that the popups are informative and like that the numbers are amplified because you are in spaceYes, so that I can apply the game to real life. So that it can inform my purchasing decisions.Yes, it makes sense, it is fairly self explainatory, in the popups, the main content could be condensed or the main point could be highlighted betterThe data is informative but I don’t relate to it. I know they are big numbers but I cant comprehend what kind of consequence they can have, the numbers are just abstract numbers to me
21
What other things do you think the game should teach you?Other factors such as safety and longevity could be useful, but again just having the data visualization at the end is the most useful part.NoneHow much of a different you can make by driving a car that's more fuel efficient. Encourage buying cars that are hybrid or electric that are better for environment.Maybe it can teach me about the environmental impact of the car companies, the manufacturing process of the cars Contextualize the data, maybe talk about alternative fuels?
22
What other features do you wish that the game had?More complexity in the decision pointsCosts of new cars could potentially reflect trade-in costs of previous cars, which would help incorporate resale value as a factorMaybe if there was a promotion involved so that I would more motivated to finish playing it.it would be interesting to make a card game out of it, maybe a multiplayer game. Game mechanics could be more challenging. I would like to be able to see how other people who played this game did, I would like to see their choices and compare my scores with theirsMaybe a poll in the end. If I can see what other people are saying / pledging, that would convince me more to go for a more environmentally efficient alternative, herd mentality, if the game tells me whats the best score or best possible, I might play it again to improve the score
23
Would you use the printable/PDF car buying guide?Yes, this would be very helpfulYes, this would be helpful, especially if you can download and filter down to the relevant cars you want to exploreYeah.I would prefer generating an image that’s shareable on social media instead of printing,I will not print it, but probably like to get the pdf or something in the end
24
What are the most important car-buying factors after seeing the game?Emissions are part of the equation, but economics (gas costs and price) are still the most importantEmissions would become part of the equation, but still as part of the fuel economy equation1 - Affordability, 2 - Fuel efficiency, Enironmental impact1 - affordability 2- coolness of the car, aesthetics 3- features, 4- environmental impact
