|9/4/2017 10:22:14||3934||Fairfield, CT||$12,500.00||This is an updated classified. Bottom line is I haven't had time to sail it the past 6 years and would like driveway space back. |
Hull 3934 is a dark green NWOD beauty. I am the second owner and I purchased it in 2007(?). It was built in 1999. The previous owner sailed it a couple years before storing it. I sailed it for 4-5 years before storing it. This Thistle probably has only been sailed 6-8 years and has been well loved, it wants to be loved even more and SAILED!!!!!
I completely revarnished the mohagany with purple heart rails 6 years ago and started doing touch ups again 3 years ago. Unfortunately work, winters and hot summers have gotten in the way and I haven't had a chance to finish the project. All the hardware is off and clearly marked in bags for replacement. The bailers were replaced and then never sailed with.
The mast is a black anodized with newer replacement halyards. The boom's outhaul needs replacement. There is also a crack on the tack end. I reduced the price of the boat to reflect a boom replacement.
Sails are okay. The original set is satisfactory for day sailing/practice. There is a 2009 Proctor Main that was used for the 2009 Nationals. The spinnaker is also a 2009, also only used for Nationals that year. A new jib would make 3934 race ready!
I'll even toss in the anchor, paddles, water bottles, extra lines, extra parts and maybe a toolbox and whatever other stuff I find around the basement.
The trailer is lower with okay tires.
I have photos and can email them to interested buyers.
Email is the best contact LisaSim@aol.com

It was in a storage facility for about 20 years and in addition to being dry, it did not have a hundred holes drilled into the trunk as people changed the rigging. Great starter boat or one to sail at the club and leave your fancy schmantzy traveling GMW in the garage. |12/14/2016 12:17:49||1316||Western North Carolina||$8,500.00||I purchased the boat from Michael Parramore in Maryland July 2015 without sails. He used the boat for one regatta a year for a few years. As soon as I got it, I payed Steve Shaw in Mooresville to have him work on the bottom fairing/filling in spots, adding epoxy to small areas showing bare wood. I raced the boat one weekend at WCSC that November. I then sent the boat to Charleston to have Will Tyner work on the bottom more and address issues of the boat taking on water. I am asking $8,500 without sails or $10,200 with my Dieball set that has been used maybe 6 days total. |
The boat is stiff and fast. The board and rudder are supposedly really fancy, faired by some famous Nordic sounding name guy.

I need to be in the water, but my owners just don't have time to sail me anymore. We've had some great times sailing, floating and even racing -- I'm pretty quick when my spinnaker is up! -- but I've been sitting on my trailer for two seasons now with no exposure to the elements. I have beautiful teak trim, blue stripes on my white fiberglass hull, an aluminum mast, and my mainsail, jib and spinnaker are all in great shape! My trailer's good, too, and ready to take me out for some fun! I even have a fancy custom cover with my name stitched into it! Please let me know if you might be able to help me. Has been inside stored her entire life.
Beautiful DM Woodie, Floor model day-sailer - hull #900. She was purchased new in 1967 by Joe Becker from Sandy Douglas when he closed the Painesville, Ohio showroom. After sailing on Deep Creek Lake for 20 years, Joe passed her on in 1987. Boat was then lightly sailed and stored indoors. Encouraged by Paul Nelson she was then acquired in 2016 by an up and coming boat building shop founded two college students studying businesses administration.
Two tone grey and white hull:
Bottom of the boat was completely taken down to bare wood. Then autobailers were taken out/rebuilt then reinstalled flush then screw heads were faired over. Entire bottom was sealed with epoxy. Below waterline received five coats of interlux performance epoxy. Then wetsanded and longboarded to 1200 grit. Above waterline was painted with "platinum" interlux perfection. Bottom job consisted of roughly 48 man hrs. After paint new keel strips were installed with new centerboard gasket. Stock Gudgeons were replaced with new Gudgeons and pintles.

|8/27/2018 9:31:23||57||Vermilion, OH||$9,500.00||This is a professionally rebuilt hull with ALL new wood parts - transom, trunk, gratings, thwart, seats and rails. The only original wood is in the hull shell itself, the stem and half the thickness of the keelson. Every part is fully epoxy encapsulated. The inside of the trunk is glassed and coated with graphite/epoxy before assembly. All parts are glued in place with epoxy. Interior is fully epoxied with two full varnish coats applied.|
This hull is not yet faired or glassed and the outwales are not yet installed. The paint and/or varnish scheme you favor will determine how the fairing and glass work is done. For a completely painted exterior, I favor doing virtually all the heavy fairing work before it is glassed, burying the fairing material under the glass. I also prefer to install the outwales after the glass is applied.
I can complete this hull for you or you can do it yourself, knowing the hard work of a full rebuild is already done.
The asking price as-is is $9500.
Contact me with questions or to make an offer.
|6/19/2018 14:21:49||54||Madison, Wisconsin||$1000 OBO||This woodie was sailed intermittently in the 1950's, then brought|
indoors to be refinished, a project that went on permanent hold.
It has been upside down on blocks in dry garage since 1961.
Most or all fittings have been removed; it's possible that a few
parts have gone missing. All parts and sails are original. There's
a little rot near the base of the stem that has been filled.
There's no trailer, but we saved a pair of wooden bunks that fit
the boat and could be attached to another trailer.
|4/21/2017 11:34:35||7||Ohio||1947 Thistle #7, "Lucky 7" - Owned by our family since 1957. Official Thistle Class Association registered April 28,1947. |
"Lucky 7" while under our ownership, has been trailered and garaged when not in use.
An Inspection and Valuation Report was made on October 7, 2015 by R.D. McLeod of Douglas & McLeod, Inc. and is referenced within this description. Excerpts from the report are as follows:
This is an original Thistle class sailboat, its equipment, built by
Douglass and McLeod, Inc. Grand River, Ohio 44045, and has the
original #7 drilled into the keel as the original haul number.
This #7 Thistle hull is in exceptionally fine condition consists of:
Natural - Interior and original mahogany floor strips, several coats
of varnish - minimum dark spots - varnish in very good condition -
lockers in place
Mast and boom - Sitka spruce, coated with wing dope prior to
several coats of CBEA Varnish to retain light color
Excellent condition. Recently done
The mast has been replaced from Douglas & McLeod Inc. and is
not the original but an exact duplication.
Not only is the condition superb but the originality, all parts and #7
being of value.
This boat has received excellent care over the years and should
be a credit to its owner. Original paints and varnishes were used
over the years whenever possible. No time or expense was of
concern when maintaining this boat.
The trailer is in excellent condition - repainted, very good tires -
Main sail and jib are Boston sails. The Gator trailer has newer tires and wheels and also vintage wheels, Gator hub caps and Goodyear trailer tires.
|10/29/2018 1:44:58||Bellingham, Wa. USA||$1,500.00||HULL NUMBER UNKNOWN: Wooden D&M Thistle, looks like the hull number is covered by an extra keelson board. Wooden hull 99% stripped of paint, rusty staple spots evident but structurally sound inside and out. Wooden mast and boom, no spin pole.
