DO NOT ASK ME FOR THE SHEET'S EDIT PERMISSION. YOU CAN ONLY USE THIS WATER CRAFTER AFTER HAVING DONE "FILE => MAKE A COPY" IN GOOGLE SHEETS.
3
This will allow you to edit your own copy of the spreadsheet.
4
5
This sheet allows you to craft your own recipe starting with tap water instead of distilled water. Hover your mouse over a cell to get more information.
6
Generally, cells in blue are automated (don't edit them), and cells with a bright red font can be edited. Ignore the section "Intermediate Variables".
7
8
This calculator assumes you have access to all ingredients listed below; If some of those are not accessible to you, you'll need a different water crafter.
9
Also make sure you have the correct hydrate forms; they look different. See my blog post linked below for more on that, and Amazon links.
10
11
Epsom Salt (MgSO4•7H2O)
12
Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate (MgCl2•6H2O)
13
Calcium Chloride anhydrous (CaCl2)
14
Baking Soda (NaHCO3)
15
Potassium Bicarbonate (KHCO3)
16
17
Make sure you get food grade ingredients, not lab grade or pharma grade.
18
19
There are a few exceptions of missing minerals where you can still use the spreadsheet below. Here's a list with how to do it:
20
21
(1) NO ACCESS TO MgSO4: Set your target [SO4-] to your tap water [SO4-]
22
(2) NO ACCESS TO MgCl2: Use tab "All_But_KHCO3" and play with your target [SO4-] until the spreadsheet asks you for 0 MgCl2
23
(3) NO ACCESS TO NaHCO3: Set your target [Na+] to your tap water [Na+]
24
(4) NO ACCESS TO NEITHER MgSO4 OR MgCl2: Set your target Mg/Ca = 0
25
(5) NO ACCESS TO CaCl2: Set your target Mg/Ca = 99999
26
27
If you are lacking other combinations of minerals, use the other tabs below that contain different versions of this calculator
28
29
You can specify your tap water's and desired brew water's Magnesium/Calcium ratio of ions to determine whether Mg or Ca form your water hardness.
30
If you don't specify it and instead use three dots ... then the calculator will instead look for your specified [Mg] and [Ca] concentrations.
31
If you use [Mg] and [Ca] make sure the associated GH (just to the right) is consistent with what you asked for in the specified bre water GH.
32
If your tap water has more GH, KH, SO4 or Na than your target brew water, you cannot use this water crafter (and you are generally screwed).
33
If you encounter any negative number anywhere, you are asking the water crafter to do something impossible (e.g. reduce your tap water's hardness by adding minerals).
34
35
By default the crafter is set to make 500 mL of the Rao/Perger brew water with a dosage of 4 g/L of brew water, starting from distilled water.
36
37
You can adjust the desired concentrate volume and dosage in the "Target Concentrate" section. The "Resulting Recipe" section will
38
list the ingredients you need for your concentrate. You can use the post linked here as a guide for crafting your concentrate;
39
I highly recommend using a mg-precision jewel scale, they can be quite cheap.
40
41
If you prefer having more than one concentrate (one for GH and one for KH) for flexibility, I recommend using this web tool by Barista Hustle:
