While this doesn't mean you'll like CS, you could potentially be just as great as someone who does. Of course, this lack of natural interest can make one less successful in the academics or career because of the lack of motivation found in one who is maybe not the best in the field but passionate about his work.Linux/#!Java

I can confidently say my classes taught me C, C++, Java, C#, Javascript, Python, PHP, html skills and if I needed to I could muster up my old Assembly skills as well. It really makes you very versatile, enabling a much bigger application developer market for when you graduate, as well as not being afraid of new languages/concepts.LinuxJava

Don't sweat the small stuff when a brute force approach will get the job done. With today's hardware computational complexity is often only an issue for very large inputs.

For software other people will use or maintain: Start with a design document and beat it to death before you write any code. Use cases, object diagrams, functional interactions. Compartmentalize code where possible and document *everything*.

They go work as a Software Engineer.

There needs to be more SwE education in the CS curricula. There are only 10 ABET accredited SwE programs in the US.

That's shameful.

In my experience, schools (I've been to two in the past three years) seem content to source their CS teachers from a pool of people who barely speak English. Fluency is apparently not a job requirement in any CS department, and as a result most of the 'teaching' is done student-to-student because nobody learns anything from the teachers. However, this means that only the truly motivated actually manage to do well in classes.OS XJava or Python
