Applying for ESOL funding for new studentsSubmit the application

This application form is for:
1. Name the application with your school number_school name and save the completed application on your computer in Excel format. E.g. 123_New Zealand School

2. Share the application form with your school's
Secure Data Portal User e.g. via email, or a shared folder.

3. Use the Ministry of Education
Secure Data Portal to submit your application form. Ask your school’s Secure Data Portal User to upload the application in Excel format. If you are not sure who your school’s Secure Data Portal User is then please check with a colleague, your Principal or office manager.

How to upload files onto the Secure Data Portal
a. Use the drop-down list in the Portal to select
ESOL funding.
b. Click on the Choose File buttons and find the
ESOL application form on the computer.
c. Once you have selected the file you want to send, click on the Upload file button.
d. A message will show beneath the upload button confirming the upload was successful.
e. Log out of e-Admin once you successfully upload your file. We recommend closing your browser.

4. We will inform your school of the ESOL funding allocation via email and upload an updated Status List of funded students on the
Secure Data Portal (approximately five weeks after applications close). Please ask your Secure Data Portal User for access to the updated Status List.

1. Schools who did not receive ESOL funding in the previous funding round. Before the application due date, enter and save all new students’ details and ELLP assessment scores into the three new student tabs within this document. You can move between the tabs by clicking on the tabs along the bottom of the window.

If you received ESOL funding in the previous funding round do not use this form. Add new students to your current status list document. If you cannot locate your status list, please email info.esol@education.govt.nz

2. Schools who apply for ESOL funding outside the specified funding application periods. Enter and save all new students’ details and ELLP assessment scores into the three new student tabs. Send the completed form to info.ESOL@education.govt.nz. Do not try to submit the form via the secure data portal, as described in the following column, as the portal will be closed.

Note: ESOL funding for students who arrive outside the specified application periods of March and August is granted in exceptional circumstances. Please contact us at info.ESOL@education.govt.nz for details.
