Nirulea: A land sequestered off from the rest of the world, and blessed by the Goddess.
19
Word hardly spread of this land, if only because of what it did to its inhabitants. Many a traveler had wandered upon those golden plains, those lush, verdant fields...Many a traveler had taken up residence there and grown alongside the land's bounties. Crops grew in volumnous amounts; livestock were rarely doing anything else other than eating... and waddling to the next bit of food they saw.
20
It was a glutton's paradise. And it showed amongst its people.
21
There was no one who could be considered 'thin' around at all. Soft, rounded middles weighed on everyone's body, as did a plump face, a hefty chest, and a wide, bloated rump. But to them, it was normal. With all that they could ever ask for in extreme supply, why should anyone care if they indulge each day? And indulge they did. None who had found their way out of those bountiful hills had returned the same...If they even returned at all~
22
To them, it was heaven. A fat, food-filled heaven with easy, lazy days forevermore...
23
Yet now...
24
Now, the lands have grown cold. A winter has fallen amidst the valley; the ground too cold and frigid to produce even so much as a single stalk of wheat. The cows have grown thin; and it is with a heavy heart that the inhabitants of Nirulea kill off their emaciated cattle. They know not what caused the Goddess to turn on them.
25
But they know what needs to be done.
26
A story was passed down through generations. That, over the hills and beyond the horizon line, A shrine to the Goddess sat amidst an eternal harvest. Within the shrine was a stone; the same stone that, if the legends were true, the Goddess had used to leap to the heavens.
27
If an offering of sorts could be made at that most holy spot, And if favor could be shown to Her? Then the lands once more would bear her fruits.
28
Of course, Many had tried to claim that shrine for their own. Many a well-fed wanderer had set off towards those hills, with the intention of seizing the stone. Some went to pay service to Her, Some went to seize the stone for themselves, and hold the land as ransom. Some went out of curiousity, to see if it even existed at all.
29
Yet...
30
As they all went forward, they found their journey becoming...an afterthought. No, even the most determined of evils, nor the most valiant of heroes, None could make their way fully to the shrine. And indeed, as one got closer to the hills? The furs there...They /grew./ What was once an average weight of 250 soon became 300...And then 375...By the time one reached the base of the hills, it was rare to find anyone UNDER a quarter-ton. And strangely...None seemed to care about climbing beyond the summit.
31
/"Why should we? We have all that we could DREAM of already!"/
32
Yet, in the wake of the everlasting winter that befell the land, Even those who had been deep under Her trance had begun to stir...To awaken from the hedonistic haze that She had pacified them with... Who knows what would happen if they remembered why they journeyed? None can say for sure.
33
So I ask you...
34
/"What brings you to attempt the journey?"/
35
/"Would you succeed in restoring the land's bounties?"/
36
/"Or would you, too, fall prey to the siren's call of 'more~'?"/
37
/"Not even I can tell you the answer to that."/
f
38
/"Now then, traveler, tell me your name. It's not wise to keep a name from the same Mouse who gave you food, after all."/
