| Nepal | - 11 workshops of at least 24 people each time; reaching 2,500 a year in discussions, debates etc. - Film school training- 33 participants for a two-week film school. - Accountability photo contest- 70 people have applied. | Achievements- can make own videos about their work to amplify impact (through collaboration with the film school- good inter-incubator collaboration). Have educated more than 250+ students in accountability issues and all are willing to volunteer as part of the movement. The team has grown by almost 100% to 5 people; and the budget has increased from $12,000 USD to $20,000. Visibility of the organization- Bikalpa is now well known across Nepal. Accepted as part of Asia 21 program too- prestigious pan-Asian program run by the Asia Society. Media exposure across Nepal and internationally in 5 publications. People really feel that Bikalpa is a serious organization now. We are the first organization to train anyone in Biratnagar in accountability issues. There are videos with voices from the students on the Bikalpa FB page. We organized an accountability training- and one participant, Adesh Dahal, as a result developed a cleaning program in his municipality to collect litter- he took initiative as a result of the training; and also organized an accountability training himself in his college. We also collaborated with Onion films- for a film school in Biratnagar; and we are now collaborating with Anita and civic schools to bring their program to Biratnagar too. | We are now conducting a citizens’ perceptions survey process in Biratnagar to assess citizen perceptions of public services (Health, education, municipality etc). These will then be published in infographics, videos, events etc and we will work with the government to fix the problems. It is only since working with the Accountability Lab that we have developed a real understanding of these issues and now the movement is growing quickly. The non-financial support is huge- the advice is really key- more than the financial support. For example on perceptions surveys; how we can organize the photo contest; how do we mobilize people- all of these technical issues. I learn from the other accountapreneurs too as we have shared experiences- we share with each other and collectively improve. I’ve learned a lot more about what accountability means and my rights through engaging with the networks- as have the people who have worked with us through Bikalpa. Also opportunities and networks- the Asia 21 network came through the Accountability Lab; the networks I’m building in Kathmandu have come through the Accountability Lab. “If there was no Accountability Lab support for Bikalpa, it would be impossible for us to organize events, hold trainings and even pay the rent. And the Lab’s support is not like other international organizations. The Lab is so flexible we can work according to our ideas and this allows us to really ensure a much larger impact. It gives us space to do so many things.” | 10 | Even more exposure to more opportunities could be great- to get experiences, meet new people, exchange ideas. Exchanges and learning opportunities- but I know this is expensive. If the Lab has other tools and resources that would be useful, we’d love to have them- especially for training and engagement activities. |
| Nepal | 700 | This year, we added 3 schools as Civic Schools. -4 Civic Schools alumni joined the program as progam lead in schools. They also came up with the plans to coordinate civic education related activities in schools and have already started info classes in schools for activities in 2017. Some of their ideas include child friendly library, workshop on children's participation in 14 steps local planning process, community service campaign etc. - Almost at the end of December, we have approached some of the promiment figure in Nepal who are working for on civic issues with their conviction and intergrity. In 2017 they will be joining Civic Schools as mentors for our students. We strongly hope, our students will be inspired by their work and support and will be encouraged to take action against corruption, impunity etc. - We also run debate classes for our students led by volunteer from the US, which helped stduents to learn different debate skills as well as critical thinking, asking right questions, respecting difference of opinion etc. - This year, we re-worked on our baseline and endlines assessment prcoess with technical support from Generation Citizen to make it more simple but easy to measure the impact of our work. We tested this assessment in schools and will be implementing the format in 2017. - In 2016, Some of the school intiatives that our students worked as project include "citizenship sensitization workshop, re-opening of school library, art competition on the issue of violation of traffic rules, debate sessions on the issue of child labour" etc - 10 students under current program went thru closed camp training who would lead 2017 activities in schools. | Incredible support both financial and technical. -Flexibility to play with your ideas. -Our initial idea was to introduce this program only in Kathmandu but with Lab's support we were able to dream big and expand our program outside Kathmandu. -The level of trust we have gain from our students, schools and teachers is motivating. - Through Civic Schools, we were able to help adolescent realize their potential and take action on the issues that they care in schools, at home and in their community. - National and international recognition of our effort and initiative is also motivating factors for continuing our work. -It is absolute honor to learn and witness that young champions are making difference in the governance of school, peer support and making their schools accountable. | 9 | One aspect we are looking at as an support for next year is to collaborate with 2 organizations who would want to work in a close relationship and are looking for direct impact in adolescents life. For e.g: in 2017, besides our regular activity, we want to focus on 2 schools only and work closely from beginning to end of the academic year which will allow us to learn the depth of our program and changes in attitude and behavior of our students. We are thankful for the support from Alab so far. |
| Nepal | 52 | We had an overwhelming response when we called for applications for the workshop in Biratnagar this year. We had to turn back many applicants because of the seat and resources limitations. The interest shown by the participants in our workshop was a huge achievement for us. Similarly, the short movies made by the participants in the workshop were of high quality and garnered appreciation from over 200 viewers. Some of the participants (representing Bikalpa ) have been making documentaries on socio-economic issues of Biratnagar and using them for advocating for positive changes in the city. | Besides the financial support, Accountability Lab's support in connecting us to the World Bank Nepal office was very helpful to us. As a result of this networking support, we were able to screen our documentaries among the staff of the World Bank. Impressed by our work, the World Bank Nepal Office has offered us a grant to produce 5 more documentaries depicting different post-earthquake recovery issues of Nepal. | 10 | If we could plan a bigger event with more target audience next year, that would be wonderful. By bigger event, we mean something like an accountability film festival or fellowship for producing documentaries on accountability related issues in Nepal. |
| Nepal | 15 | The greatest achievement this year has been the kick off of the program itself, and reaching out to the unreached with the program. In terms of accountability work, the adolescent girls who have been receiving mentorship program were able to realize that they can also be the voice of the community and can seek accountability. Also, they have been raising their stories through stories, essays and poems. | The most valuable things that I have gained are as follows: • Social safety net and networking with like-minded professionals and organizations. • A learning forum and discussion on important professional skills through accountability incubator. | 9 | While Lab has been doing wonderful work as a mentor for the incubator, more frequent meetings and exposure with mentors often could have enhanced our learning more. |
| Pakistan | 500 | 1) Collaboration with Pesi litre Light program to set up solar lighting system for home-based workers in Shanti Nagas Kahnewal 2) Government support in Hyderbad Sindh to install the drainage pipelines in Kotri. 3) Construction of water filtration plant and sitting area shelter for patients in civil hospital Hyderbad. 4) Religious and local government leaders advocacy in gilgit/Baltistan to address the anti-accountable behavior among the youth. 5) E-ticketing system implementation in Lahore. 6) Women voter registration through community threater in Fata. 7) Local government representatives for health initiatives in Khanewal were sensitized through puppet theater. | The most valuable thing for me have been the peer interaction through our incubator. | 5 | In the context of the entire accountapreneur program if Lab concieves it as a project and deals with it an approach of meeting up with the goals of all programs by accountapreneurs. It will be a better mechanism to run it. Having and projecting it as a core project shall help us developing a sphere and creating more opportunities. |
| Liberia | Over one two thousand people | My greatest achievement this year was visiting three counties and my know who to vote for song making hit all in these counties.and in my community today even kids sing this song on an everyday basis. | Networking and improvement in my hipco game locally and internationally. | 7 | Mobile and security to protect this network because songs that the hipco network is doing will not really be in the interest of these politicians. |
| Liberia | 250 | The level of training has improved my outreach ability | Training | 8 | Increase budget |
| Liberia | In this year 2016, I was able to directly engage a total number of 106 persons. | Since its establishment in September of 2010, The Liberia Visual Arts Academy (LIVARTS) has been training children and young people the basics of arts as a tool to communicte mesages as the same time affroding them an opportunity for a career tomorrow. In 2013, George Gray, then 19, abondoned car-washing in Sinkor and enrolled at LIVARTS. After two years of training in the Certificate Program, George is now an intern as a cartoonist at the Daily Observer newspaper in Paynesville. LIVARTS would like to afford more youth this opportunity if we can get funding that would allow our work to go beyond Sinkor. | The training/workshops have help us a lot at LIVARTS. The just ended Grant Writing workshop was very helpful as this now prepares us to be able to write for and request our own grant now that we will be graduating from incubator. | 8 | It will be good if the Lab can continue more of these workshops and follow up with some practical demonstrations with the incubatees. |
| Liberia | over 200 | Taken on radio talk show as an organization, allowed us to interact with larger audiance; making known the impact of our work, themed the Citizens' Bureau for Development and Productivity/Liberia National Police community justice initiative. In communities we worked we helped peopel who were not speaking to one another to change behaviour thereby living together peacefully. | The most valuable thing is sharing ideas about the topics discussed; for example understanding the sources of grant | 8 | timely disbursement of funds |
| Pakistan | I do not have exact number but in Lahore many organizations and youth from different universities, colleges and minority organizations like interfaith church of Pakistan, Students in Faiz Ghar etc. | One of the best achievements was to introduce the real definition of “accountability” to the participants from different institutes, media and professions. I organized forum and image theatre workshop in Faiz Ghar which went great. This was a unique topic and many people from different genders also participated. For example, Tehzeeb member of transgender group from fountain house did share her story through a play about what kind of harassment their community face by corruption of police officers who are in power and try to manipulate them because of their gender difference. That day we found some solutions to share with them through Right to Information. It was a very informative theatre session where we showed them through acting about how to take a stand and what is the right way to complain if someone is corrupt or harassing. A lot of people shared their definition of personal and professional corruption and integrity. Using images of corruption and making them correct by eliminating corruption was something amazing which the audience was invited to participate in. Here is the video of that workshop which was covered by Dunya Tv https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9WRyhAX6Ac | Great Networking Education Team work Support Friendship | 7 | Guidance on the projects Financial assistance More trainings Collaborative events between different accountrapreneurs More active towards accountrapreneurs and their work |
| Pakistan | 300 | 1) Literature review on any project, corporate corruption - one of its kind in Pakistan. 2) Advocated and gained mandate positively from stakeholders, nationally and internationally. 3) Graduated from Transparency school on Integrity, vilncies and gained knowledge of accountability and integrity. 4) Focused more about the project and piloted the idea into problem and solution side. | 1) Peer networking 2) Mentoring 3) New avenues/opportunities to explore | 5 | 1) Clear and define approach 2) Consider paslom of accountapreneurs 3) Give feedback timely 4) Consider the importance of funding and mentoring 5) Define the agenda appropriately of the meetings 6) Head hunt the mentors o/c the accountapreneurs knowledge areas |
| Pakistan | I am engaged with AL finee one year. I had an opportunity to rerse the campaign on social accountability - and brought sveral success stories for improving service delivery through youth accountability Incubator and engaging local communities. | I started my own social enterprise SSDO and that was the most valuable thing that is growing and building its own community through different grow about devt campaigns | 9 | AL should make consortium of organizations of accountapreneurs and get a bigger project to implement through incubators. | |
| Pakistan | I directly involved around 20 people in documentary, and around 1000 people outreach through social media | I produced one documentary on primary health care. I highlight basic health issues of a BHU, where lady health visitor position vacant from 2 year I highlight that and discuss the same with concern authorities (PPHI) and (health minister) after that the PPHI appointed LHV-in Fathma village BHU - This is success but after 2 months, again transfer L.H.V. but I learn that its not because of our documentary its because of my asking to authorities - the BHU employs all nic for thanks. | I know about accountability, research on this subject - I study the concept of accountability and civic education. This subject is now comes to my knowledge and I try my best to bring the said subject in my journalism field. It help me relating my project to mainstream media. | 3 | 1) Lab should support me in terms of connectivity with related organizations. 2) I need mentoring and peer support. 3) Technical support 4) Financial support 5) To establish my production house for sustainability |
