FITNESS / PROGRAMS

1/4/2017 10:02:07Looks good, please do not get rid of the gym or fitness studios - I love my classes there with Sandra, Jen, Rea and Gail!!

Noreen email 1/4/2017 10:09:00A significant user of BCC is the Pickleball community. Typically there are 24-30 players participating every day that the facility is available for open play. Which is usually at least 5 days, and sometimes on Saturday.
I do not see any provision in this development to accommodate this activity. The 3 temporary courts are overcrowded most of the time with some of the better players in the area, along with many new players. It would be great to have a 4th court in the new plans, along with space for those waiting to play. Currently we use the stage for the extra players.
Thanks for providing us with an opportunity to express our concerns. (We currently have around 6,000 pb players in greater Denver area with about 500 within Broomfield, when Anthem Ranch is considered with there 200+ players, who use BCC for indoor play.
5
1/4/2017 16:20:06 It would be nice if the plan could include a more integrated walking path around the Brunner Reservoir.
6
1/4/2017 16:30:22Seems like it would be good to have more and larger Fitness Studios for popular group classes.
7
1/4/2017 16:48:16Please give the pickleball sport an official home with multiple dedicated daily scheduled indoor pickleball courts in Broomfield. We regularly fill the current three drop-in court times with 24 plus people despite the current shifting days and times which demonstrates the popularity. Pickleball is a wonderful way to get in shape, stay fit, socialize and have fun exercising. Thank you for asking.
8
1/4/2017 18:10:54This is long overdue! Is this expansion large enough to cover Broomfield's projected growth? It seems another fitness studio would be nice, and the fitness/weight area is a little small.
9
1/5/2017 14:34:36Awesome design! Love the idea of redeveloping BCC, especially as we grow our city center nearby. Make sure the design is big enough to accommodate the projected growth when the town center is completed. Is there anything different that should be added that PDRC doesn't have (racquetball courts?).
10
1/5/2017 19:41:24We think it is a great concept. We would like to see a Golf Simulator for those days we get a bunch of snow, and it would be fun to have Winter Golf Leagues. Also, adding racquetball courts would bring another non traditional sport into Broomfield which is not offered by many other organizations.
11
1/6/2017 7:33:19I am concerned that there is insufficient fitness studio space - will there be group cycling/spin classes, yoga and mat Pilates classes and a large variety of cardio classes? It does not look like enough space for group exercise classes. In the area designated "fitness", does that include cardio, circuit equipment and free weights? Will there be any separations of such? Again, I am concerned about possibly insufficient area for this. thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback, Rochelle Remaly

Senior side 1/4/2017, 8:30am-1pm
Big fitness area is a top priority.
13
Senior side 1/4/2017, 8:30am-1pm
Need more yoga space
14

19
Senior side 1/4/2017, 8:30am-1pm
Make sure the fitness rooms are big enough. The PDRC rooms are not big enough to hold everyone.
20
Senior side 1/4/2017, 8:30am-1pm
Make sure we continue with the lunch program and classes.
21
Senior side 1/4/2017, 8:30am-1pm
Down the road, will you be expanding the fitness studios at PDRC?
22
Senior side 1/4/2017, 8:30am-1pm
Need mirrors in the fitness/exercise area. That's the tough thing about having classes in Lakeshore--no mirrors.
23
Senior side 1/4/2017, 8:30am-1pm
Please enlarge the fitness room; it is not big enough for what we need. The current room is way too small.
24
Senior side 1/4/2017, 8:30am-1pm
The size of the fitness rooms is always underestimated. It needs to be much larger. There is so much wasted space at PDRC--the circle overview upstairs is wasted space and then the aerobics studios are too small. Also, make sure there is enough storage space for everything. I want a good sound system for the fitness classes too.
25
Senior side 1/4/2017, 8:30am-1pm
I would like the line dancing class to be able to go to the fitness studio; it needs to be large enough for that and have mirrors.
26
Senior side 1/4/2017, 8:30am-1pm
Please make sure the workout space is bigger.
27
Only three fitness studios? With that huge catalog of classes? I'm worried that it will be impossible to schedule.

GYM
30
1/4/2017 10:35:51Much improved - like the two gyms.
31
1/5/2017 13:15:41Would like to see more gym space available for more indoor pickleball courts
(especially on weekends during winter months).
32
1/5/2017 15:28:57I see basketball courts, but no pickleball courts. If pickleball is going to utilize the basketball courts, then perhaps you could use a different line color on the basketball courts to show this. If no picleball courts are going to be included, then I wonder why not? Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America and has been for several years, you need to be ahead of the curve, not behind it. The courts at the senior center are too small because their isn't enough room from the back line of the court and the wall. There should also be dividers between the courts to keep the balls from constantly rolling into another court. The type of flooring should be changed to wood from its current mode. Thanks for listening.
33
1/6/2017 14:38:26How about adding some raquetball courts !!!
34
1/4/2017 15:44:12Please add badminton courts as well as basketball courts
35
1/7/2017 10:20:21I don't see a weight and exercise equipment room.
36
Senior side 1/4/2017, 8:30am-1pm
The double gym is a must. Make sure the two gyms are connected for pickleball. Also, we need a place to sit to watch gym activities like basketball games or while we wait for a pickleball court.
37
Senior side 1/4/2017, 8:30am-1pm
The gym will need to have the curtain thing separating the two courts.
38
Senior side 1/4/2017, 8:30am-1pm
I've heard that Pickleball needs a second gym.
39
1/5/2017 9:00:50I think it looks great. However, what about 1 or 2 racquetball courts? Maybe one and a half basketball courts and 2 racquetball courts?
40
1/5/2017 11:03:52Love that there might be an additional gym built. Would like to see additional time allocated to pickleball, maybe some evenings and weekends especially for those that work during the day.
41
I am a tennis player. Any chance of adding a couple of indoor tennis courts?
42
43
POOLS / SAUNA / LOCKERS
44
1/4/2017 10:19:19It is a great idea to have a leisure pool. Right now BCC is closed to general public most of the time. only classes, lessons or swim team can use it. A bigger facility may need more parking though.
45
1/4/2017 10:20:13Include a sauna, please!!
46
1/4/2017 10:28:15Love it! Pools and locker rooms need heavy renovations at BCC!
47
Noreen Email 1/4/2017 11:16:00I am a Broomfield resident and my family and I take advantage of both rec centers in Broomfield. My input would be to ask for a steam room or sauna in the remodeled facility, since we don’t have that in Broomfield yet.
48
1/4/2017 11:38:05Looks good. Hopefully there will be a family locker room. As a mom with a son who is to young to go in the mens by himself and to old to go in the womens a family locker room is essential.
49
1/4/2017 12:01:03I would like to see more space for swim lessons/laps/training/diving. We already have a large leisure facility at PDRC. Currently there is a lack of space for the other parts of swimming. I would also like to see some classrooms near the pool for classes like lifeguard training/Scuba. Having to walk all the way upstairs can be a problem with lots of gear and being wet from the pool. I would also like to make sure there are still diving boards at the new facility. Broomfield has a large diving program and would not like to see that go away. And given a nice enough facility we could grow our diving program.
50
1/4/2017 12:01:49I like every part of the design aside from the pool area. I think rather than having a leisure pool, the lap pool should be a cold water pool primarily for lap swim and swim team/diving, but I think the second pool should be a warm water lap pool primarily for swim lessons and classes. The idea of a leisure pool is nice, but because there is Paul Derda as well, I think this should remain a lesson friendly facility.
51
1/4/2017 12:18:25Looks good. Just make sure to have lots of seating in the pool area! Also, a playground & picnic area outside would be nice. Thanks for seeking input.
52
1/4/2017 12:29:01I believe that there SHOULD be a leisure pool for those who live closer to BCC than to PDRC. I like the idea of having both types of pools in the facility.
53
1/4/2017 12:29:36I think the leisure pool should be geared towards teaching lessons. And it should have an zero depth entry like PDRC and the bay. But it should also have a bench or something on the edge so kids can sit in it while they are in lessons and not drown by falling off the wall.
54
1/4/2017 12:36:44Two things I would love to see: a racquetball court and a sauna. Thanks!
55
1/4/2017 12:54:15I don't think the leisure pool is necessary. I think that maybe a bigger lap area and a diving well would be better.
56
1/4/2017 14:11:23Should have 8 to 10 lanes and be 25 yard by 25 meter pool.
57
1/4/2017 14:23:05No need for leisure pool. Maybe more lap lanes or have a diving pool?or Olympic size?
58
1/4/2017 14:26:08I would like to see a large family locker room area which isn't indicated in this design. I do agree with a larger, expanded facility and would support that as a Broomfield resident.
59
1/4/2017 15:00:35Is there enough room for lots of cardio & strength training equipment? Otherwise, love the leisure pool, but could it be a warm water therapy pool, maybe a steam room/sauna too instead of one of the basketball courts since PDRC has so many?
60
1/4/2017 15:18:32Please have a minimum of 8 lanes, ideally 10 with room for a diving board to accommodate the HS Swim Teams, the Club and Cara Teams, the Masters teams, and lessons. This is a great opportunity to turn Broomfield Aquatics into an even better program than they already have in place. If done properly with adequate seating this would also turn a profit by being able to host meets and charge up to 3K per weekend to rent it for meets.
61
1/4/2017 17:04:53Is there a definite need for a 3rd leisure pool in Broomfield? Paul Derda and the outdoor pool have very nice leisure pools. Could we focus on one really good lap pool at BCC redevelopment? Perhaps a few more lanes? Some area for small bleachers to accomodate meets? We definitely need 1 good public lap pool in Broomfield as Derda is too warm and too small for any swim team or serious lap swimmer. Andrea Sortwell. Broomfield Master Swim Team member.
62
1/4/2017 17:08:45If the interior sports court was relocated to where the design shows the leisure pool, then a very nice large lap pool with a decent size deck could go in that spot. There are no good public lap pools in the northwest suburbs that can also accommodate a swim meet well that I am aware of.
63
1/4/2017 17:09:59As a master's swimmer, the current pool is too hot. Is it your intention to have the leisure pool be warmer and put water aerobics and swim lessons there? If your answer is no, then I would request a larger competitive swimming pool - at least 8 lanes being mindful of deck space for swim meets by CARA, BHS, Cudas and maybe even the Masters group with an improved pool.
64
1/4/2017 19:46:18It does not seem as though we need a leisure pool as we have PDRC. Another lap pool would serve the community better or even a 50 meter pool with a deep end for diving. It seems that with the newer gyms and fitness areas that parking may become a problem.
65
1/5/2017 13:47:15I'm so happy that Broomfield is considering a larger and newer facility! It is much needed. I use the BCC pool for lap swimming. I would love to see more time slots and lanes available just for lap swimming, and an updated locker room and shower area. I appreciate all the aquatic classes and activities available, however, it seems that the lap swimmers tend to get "squeezed" out much of the time. Maybe some of the classes could be sceduled in the leisure pool (if built). Many of the classes get the use of all but one lane of swimming when they really are only utilizing the shallow end of the pool, which leaves a lot of empty space. Ideally, I would love to see an area designated only for lap swimming.

I love the idea of the running track, and would like to see more yoga classes offered as well.

I truly think that Broomfield can support and deserves a newer and larger facility, more comparable to The "Derda" for the residents on this side of town.

Thank you for your interest in my opinion.
66
1/5/2017 14:26:22My children took swim lessons at BCC and now swim with the barracudas. One major limitation the current community center has is lack of deck space in the pool. Is there room for a large deck or a spectator area?
67
1/5/2017 17:39:00There are more and more lap swimmers. Having two pools....one for playing and one for swimming is a nice idea. However, lap swimming is getting bigger, and lanes are fuller. Would you consider an 8 lane pool? You have venues like VMAC now to compete with, and also, you host several team practices. BHS is huge. Cuda practices are huge. An 8 lane lap pool MAKES SENSE.
Thank you!
68
1/5/2017 20:02:32We need a bigger pool. A 10 lane pool with buffers on the outside lanes (like at VMAC). Also we need bigger deck space - enough to hold swim meets for all the various teams. AND the lap pool needs to be a cool temperature for the teams to practice.
69
1/6/2017 9:14:00Overall the plan looks good, I would like to see more lap lanes. Currently there are simply not enough lanes on weekends and evenings. Also would like to see free weights and benches.
70
1/6/2017 9:16:23I love the addition/separation of leisure and lap pools!
71
1/6/2017 9:18:07Yes! Yes! Yes! Looks Great, especially the lap pool.
72
1/6/2017 9:46:06There are a lot of people that participate in water sports that require deep water (12-15ft). It would be great to see another pool with that depth. Water polo, synchronized swimming, swim teams.....are all fighting for time at VMAC. This time is paid for and would bring in extra revenue for the center. Thank you.
73
1/6/2017 10:14:17I hope the new lap pool is the same length (more lanes, perhaps?) as the existing BCC pool, for the Cudas swim team and the meets held at BCC. I appreciate the addition of the leisure pool and hot tub. Glad to see you are keeping the woodworking shop.
74
1/6/2017 10:17:09Family locker rooms and ramp access to all areas - strollers, wheelchairs, etc
75
1/6/2017 10:28:11I recommend a few family style locker rooms!
76
1/6/2017 10:32:44I think the conceptual design is fantastic and this would be a huge benefit to our community. I would love, especially, to see updated locker rooms and more pool space, however, an additional outdoor pool (besides the Bay) would be wonderful, too. Or is there any way to make this pool an indoor/outdoor pool? Thank you for taking feedback and making Broomfield a great place to live.
77
1/6/2017 11:01:52I love the idea of a second leisure pool and separate lap pool. May ease congestion at PDRC. Looks great to me.
78
1/6/2017 11:16:02 I love that Broomfield is changing. The old BCC needs to go away. The pool is a big hazard. And the whole space is under utilized by the community. I love that there is a lap pool and a leisure pool separated. It would be terrific to see a track inside for walking
79
1/6/2017 12:27:0210 lane pool with a 12-18 inch buffer on the outside lanes, enough deck space to hold meets (Masters, CARA Swim team, Cuda Meets and High school).
80
1/6/2017 12:36:17I think it looks great! I do hope that the addition of the leisure pool will open up more laps in the lap pool for regular lap swim throughout the morning/afternoon/evening!
81
1/6/2017 13:03:21I love the leisure pool and lap pool design. A family friendly locker room area would be a great addition.
82
1/6/2017 14:30:11I love the new layout. Please add family locker rooms.
83
1/6/2017 14:39:29If you are going to put in a new pool, let's do it right! It needs to be a 10 lane pool that can host events. This pool should not be shared with the aqua fitness (or similar classes) as the pool temps for those two sports vary greatly. The 10 lane lap pool needs to have a 12" to 18" end lanes so that people are not lap swimming against a wall (FYI - you wouldn't want to run right against a wall). This pool needs to have adequate deck space to host swim meets for both the youth and adults. Please hire a pool expert to design the pool! Do not assume the hired architectural firm knows about pools. This pool should have new technology as to the chemicals it uses. Please do this right and don't just bandaid the situation. We've needed a new pool for too long. How are you going to phase this project or are we going to be w/o a pool during construction? If so there should be an alternate plan. And please do not suggest swimming at Paul Derda. That is not feasible for many reasons (temp, amount of lanes, too busy).
84
1/6/2017 17:01:13I suggest an 8 lane lap pool with a timing system. I also suggest additional seating. This would allow you to hold swim meets for the swim teams. It also helps parents that need more deck space for swim lessons. I also suggest keeping the pool much cooler than Paul Derda for lap swimming. The leisure pool can stay warmer.
85
1/6/2017 17:16:39The leisure pool should be more of a warm water pool suited for swim lessons. Paul Derda already has a lot of play structures and leisure based activities that BCC does not need. There should also be a diving board or two in the lap pool area.
86
1/6/2017 18:50:20In the past 15 years (?), the two nearby warm therapy pools were closed down. One of those was at Mapleton rehab in Boulder. My disabled husband and I really miss the 94 degree water including lap lanes. I believe there must be many others who would benefit therapeutically from such a pool. Has this topic been researched for the redevelopment of the Community Center?? - Jenlyn C. Boyer
87
1/6/2017 21:30:13I like the concept of a separate lap pool and leisure pool! I would love to see at least 8 lanes - if not 10 - in the lap pool and plenty of deck space, including bleachers, so that Broomfield can properly host swim meets for CARA , Barracudas, local high schools, and Bee Gees Masters swim teams. I also like 2 separate fitness studios. What will the 3rd Fitness room consist of?

What is the intent of the leisure pool? Recreation? Water aerobics? Swimming lessons? I assume the leisure pool will be warmer, like the PDRC pool, while the lap pool will be colder than the current BCC pool....

Will the lockers include family locker rooms? Please consider taller showers with adequate water pressure and a constant hot temperature! Does Child Watch indicate Child Sitting like PDRC has?

Thank you for your consideration and work to develop and implement this plan!
88
1/6/2017 21:48:19A ten lane lap pool would be good to have. It would open up the ability to have swim meets as an additional source of revenue.
89
1/7/2017 10:16:00I like the concept. Concerns I have deal with water exercising. I would hope that the leisure pool would be large enough and deep enough to accommodate two classes or more at a time. Depth of the pool is important for deep water aerobics. Temperature of water is also irritant for arthritis classes. It will be nice to separate lap and swim teams from exercise areas. Thank you.
90
1/7/2017 10:16:32We desperately need a warmer pool with graduating depths for all of the different water classes that we have every day. I hope that one of the locker rooms is for families. I hope that the senior center is bigger because they need more room. I hope that the entries to the pools are easy for older and handicapped.
91
1/7/2017 10:33:38Overall I think the design proposal looks great, but I do have some minor suggestions regarding the pool design.

I should tell you that I am not a swimmer, but I am a competitive runner and track coach. Over the past two years, I have started to swim two days a week to help with my muscle flexibility and to help reduce the possibility of arthritis and injuries. Every time I want to swim laps, I have to constantly check schedule after schedule. Both Broomfield facilities seem to always be booked for swim lessons, swim teams, and other swim classes. I have to show up during the limited lap swim times. When I show up for this, I often find that there are three or more swimmers trying to use the same lane. My other option is to swim outside of the lane, but there are many small children playing and it is difficult to swim around them.

The lap pool design on the plans is the same size as the current lap pool. I would encourage the designers and council members to spend a day at the pool and observe the six lane pool. Swim team practices often have 5-8 swimmers in a single lane. The lanes are congested and don't allow for optimal swimming performance. Our city also will need to compete with other lap pools to host swimming competitions. VMAC is a much larger facility and will continue to be the choice for swim competitions. Swim competitions are a great method of generating revenue and helping pay ongoing costs of maintaining the facility. I highly recommend that the city have at least 10 lap lanes. This will ensure that swimmers have the appropriate space, patrons can swim laps, and that we are able to host competitions for a revenue source. In addition, I recently visited the VMAC facility in Thornton and was surprised to see the amount of pool usage. VMAC had a swim meet, training for the marines, a scuba class, and a youth swim practice all taking place at the same time. The current design plans of the BCC facility would make this type of usage impossible.

92
1/7/2017 12:43:21I think the design looks great, I think it is wonderful you are including a dedicated 6 lane lap swim pool! I am sure my family will enjoy the entire facility, the pools, gyms, fitness areas and the running track. Thank you.
93
1/7/2017 13:10:30Looks great and useful. Only comment would be the noise level above the senior center. Glad they are adding a leisure pool.
94
1/7/2017 16:45:15The leisure pool is a good idea. I couldn't tell from the plans if there would be family locker rooms, but they are very important to have.
95
1/7/2017 18:06:36hello -- suggest you insure "lap pool" is standard length anyone swimming "laps" would expect (or don't build a pool at all).
insure separate space for "wading" kiddo pool where kiddos ages 1-4yrs can play without parents worrying about "falling into deep area" -- and biggest kiddos/adults fighting for same space.
nice to have hot tub -- I would like a STEAM SAUNA and/or DRY SAUNA (both with separante entrances from locker rooms).
insure SHOWERS are readily available/easy to insure people shower off before entering various pools (SAUNA, hot tubs, etc).
I wonder if better to have basketball courts SIDE-by-SIDE vs end-to-END. I was specifically thinking about scenarios when have volleyball nets up -- you want those side by side (not end-to-end) -- so play from one court doesn't easily distract other court.
suggest as much floor space for fitness/workout/stretch area as possible.
I really like Paul Derda design of having GARAGE DOORS on edge of POOL with access to outside fenced patio for sun bathing and relaxing in sun.
96
1/7/2017 21:34:32I think a full renovation all at one time should happen instead of remodeling in phases. The facility is old and it needs to be brought up to code. I'd like to see a cold water lap pool of at least 6 lanes with 1 or 2 diving boards as well as a warm water lap pool for swim lessons, lap swim and aqua fitness classes. BCC really doesn't need a leisure pool because the Derda center has one. BCC tends to attract serious swimmers, aqua class members, lessons and a lot of seniors. If fact most of the seniors I speak with don't like Derda because of all of the kids and noise in the pool area. I know of at least two households that come to BCC from Westminster because their "home" pool is like Derda. If the City Council really wants to build a "City Center" they really need to treat BCC with respect because it will be part of that City Center concept.
97
1/8/2017 10:51:38Looks awesome. Please, please, please have the normal lap pool open here more for open swim. It stinks that all of Broomfield (plus the rest of the world) has to cram into the Bay in the summer (we don't even go anymore) and the PDRC. I just want a pool where my kids can actually swim, not just bounce around.
98
1/8/2017 14:53:19Love that there is a dedicated lap pool in addition to a leisure pool. The center needs updating so glad to see this is happening. Would love a fitness studio outfitted for yoga classes.
99
1/8/2017 17:42:42Is the lap pool a full size pool and is there a diving board
100
1/8/2017 21:10:37Our community (citizens, BHS swim teams, private swim teams) needs a much bigger aquatic facility, similar to VMAC in Thornton or EPIC in Fort Collins. It should include a larger locker area with additional privacy options. Also, a water-walking lane, no more than 4' deep, would be a great feature.
We already have the pools for fun and play. Let's build one focused on fitness and competition.
