Table Hosting Instructions
3
Here are a few guidelines to help you organize your Country table:
4
Sign Up:
5
- On the spreadsheet below, please add your name, contact person and email/phone, country or culture you are planning to highlight, and brief list of what your table will offer.
6
- Ideally, we would prefer as much cultural diversity as possible -- however, if you see another family that is already planning to represent a country you desire, please contact them to see if they would like to share a table.
7
Food Guide:
8
- Your dish(es) must feed a minimum of 20 people (small portion servings/ "tastes"). Dishes must be precooked, because we have no cooking facilities on-site.
9
- Bring serving utensil(s) or toothpicks (etc), but NO plates/bowls. The festival attendees will be instructed to BYO, plus FC will have a additional supply of plates available.
10
Table Set Up:
11
- You must arrive (1) hour early to set-up your table and stay to clean up your area. A Table will be made available to you to decorate and serve from.
12
- Decorating your table is the fun part!... you can use background props, cultural artifacts, games, a country fact sheet, etc. The FC will provide you with a selection of stamps/stickers to use on the student passports. The FC will distribute passports at the festival entrance for the "Travelers" that visit each "Country" (Host table). Please stamp their passport as evidence that they entered your country and learned a fact or two! How about a little language lesson? Maybe just teach the Travelers how to say "hello"!
13
- Wear traditional clothing if possible
14
- At each table, we will display an information card listing potential food allergens (dairy, shellfish, wheat, etc) -- so please provide FC with a list of your dishes' ingredients prior to the festival. Thank you!
15
Extras:
16
- We would like to invite Host families to provide a cultural activity (optional, not required!), such as demonstrations of Filipino tinikling dance, Polynesian hula, henna application (adult applied only), sarong/sari-tying, etc. Some of these were presented with great success last year. This year, we will move these activities to the MUR stage area, at specific alloted times.
17
- Have fun!
18
- Still not sure? Then check out the ISM parent video from the 2012 Festival - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXKOjOMpWAk&feature=youtu.be
