NOTES
37
*All courses taken for the major must be taken for a letter grade if that option is offered by the instructor.
38
*Minimum required grade for each course is a C, and minimum weighted GPA for courses on the program sheet is 2.5.
39
*All courses taken for the major can be listed only under one category (no double-counting of course units is allowed).
40
*Transfer and AP credits in Math, Science, Funamentals, & TIS must be approved by the School of Engineering. Transfer credits in Engineering Depth must be approved by the department. AP approval process & transfer credit information and petitions are available at http://ughb.stanford.edu/transfers-ap-exceptions
41
*Declare by the first quarter of the junior year. For instructions, see the BME Major page at https://ughb.stanford.edu/majors-minors/biomechanical-engineering-major-program
42
( 1 )Take all three of MATH 19/20/21 (21 may not be skipped using Math Diagnostic Placement results) or 10 units AP BC credit. One calculus-based statistics course is required (STATS 60/160 not allowed); see Approved Courses page at ughb.stanford.edu. The CME seqence is preferred. Students who do not take the CME sequence are encouraged to take CME 192: Introduction to Matlab.
43
( 2 )Must include 2 quarters of Bio core (two of BIO 82, 83, 84, or 86 [86 has a prereq of BIO 83]) OR 2 quarters of HumBio A core (two of HUMBIO 2A, 3A, 4A). AP Credit may be used for Chemistry and/or Physics requirements IF placed into higher-level Chemistry or Physics courses via the Diagnostic Placements.
44
( 3 )A TiS course must be on the SoE-approved list the year you take it. Students choosing the research capstone must take BIOE 131 to satisfy TiS and WIM requirements. Students choosing the ME170A/B capstone may use any TiS course from the SoE-approved list.

NOTES
87
( 4 )Choose 4 courses from ENGR 105, ME 102, 103, 104, 131, 133, 152, 161, and ME 123 or CME 108. Also see Note 6.
88
( 5 )Choose 2 courses from BIOE 260, CME 209, ME 234, 235, 249, 281, 283, 285, or 287. Students should be aware of prerequisites for BME depth courses. Alternative courses may be allowed if petitioned to the advisor in advance of being taken. Also see Note 6.
89
( 6 )Capstone Options: ME 172A/B or Research Capstone. Enforced prerequisites for ME172A are ME70, ME80, ME102, ME103 and either ME281 or ME283. The research capstone requires 8 units of ME191 research over 3 quarters under the supervision of BME faculty. Research requires prior approval of advisor and the program & submission of a thesis, to be evaluated by BME faculty. Students choosing the research capstone should take BioE131 to satisfy both TiS and WIM requirements.
90
( 7 )Choose additional math, science, or engineering courses at or above the level of listed courses (e.g., excluding lower-level physics courses, statistics courses not based on calculus, IntroSems, seminar courses, etc.). Math or Science courses must be on the SoE-approved list. List only courses used to reach the 99-unit requirement; do not list extra courses.
