Before resuming in-person learning in 2021, PPS had airflow testing conducted in every room of every PPS building, yielding two different types of total effective air changes per hour (ACH_e) measurements for each room. One measurement of ACH_e was for the HVAC system only. The other measurement was total ACH_e if Intellipure air purifiers are run at full speed.

Our base analysis included here for each elementary, middle school, and K-8 school corrects for three basic gaps in these airflow reports as originally published by the district. Read details about the gaps we did corrections for here: safeairoregon.org/solutions/fixing-gaps-in-pps-airflow-measurements

We have also included here a preliminary plan for adding Medify units being offered to schools by the Oregon Health Authority, by following basic guidance OHA provided in their webinars (e.g., Medify MA-50 units appropriate for small spaces, Medify MA-112's being suggested for classrooms, and Medify MA-1000's being suggested for extra large school spaces such as gyms and cafeterias). Our analysis includes a calculation of Total ACH_e if adding the identified Medify to the room on top of the Intellipure already in the room, if running at half speed.

Exact data from PPS's final airflow report - columns A through Q - except for minor changes in whether "Room" is abbreviated as "Rm" or spelled out in full, to facilitate SIAFOS analyses

17
Corrections of gaps and errors in PPS's airflow report
18
- Calculation of ACH_e with Intellipure set at the setting teachers have found for a noise level that does not compromise learning
19
- Correction of any errors SIAFOS identified in PPS's calculation of ACH_e's
20
- Exclusion of storage rooms, mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, showers, etc - the engineers often did not measure an airflow in these rooms, but then marked the room as having zero airflow, which affects analyses of PPS's original numbers
21
- Calculation of new ACH_e's if PPS had an error for the calculation or the room
22
23
Analyses
24
- Stats on ACH_e values (e.g. number of classrooms that are below 1 ACH_e, number of classrooms that are below 2 ACH_e, number of total rooms below X ACH_e, etc)

These are provided for the HVAC system alone and for when Intellipures are run at half speed. Best numbers that correct for the gaps identified above are under "Corrects for MERV 13 filter upgrades, if neccessary - excludes storage rooms, showers, mechanical rooms, etc."
25
- Calculation of new ACH_e's if adding the Medify we identified in an intital classification of rooms

Preliminary classification of rooms we developed for the Medify analysis:
30
- One single MA-112 set at speed 2 for each classroom
31
- Non-classrooms that get more than 6 ACH_e with the Intellipure at half-speed excluded
32
- Rooms that PPS's airflow report identified as not being given an Intellipure excluded - these have generally seemed to be minimally occupied rooms
33
- Medify MA-1000 set at speed 2 for rooms identified as Libraries, since most school libraries are large rooms needing more filtration capacity but quiet running is critical; our analysis might be designating the MA-1000 into some library rooms that are more similar in size to classrooms
34
- Medify MA-50 for small rooms
35
- Medify MA-1000 set at speed 4 for extra large school spaces - includes gyms and cafeterias - our preliminary categorization might also include extra large rooms of uncertain use
