| Statement of Purpose
| Please briefly outline the overall aims of the programme. This should clarify to a prospective student why they should choose this programme, what it will provide to them and what benefits they will gain from completing it.
| This programme offers a good opportunity to study and practise AI methods with a particular focus on their integration in creative workflows. This programme combines creativity and AI and will appeal to a wide range of students from different creative backgrounds, interests, and strengths, equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to address the needs of creative industries in real world scenarios. AI concerns computational systems that are in some sense autonomous, for example by showing the capability to perceive the environment, extract information and learn from it, reason about what is known, as well as communicating using human language and interacting with the physical environment, or even creating works of art. In this programme you will learn a variety of AI techniques, with a focus on Machine Learning (ML) and artificial neural networks. You will gain knowledge and develop critical skills necessary to identify requirements and design solutions for AI-driven environments deployed to various sectors of the Creative Industries. You will study societal and ethical implications of AI in the creation of original work, understanding their effect on copyright and privacy and being able to engage with detecting bias, discrimination and fakes. You will be encouraged to realise your own creative projects customising and extending the taught techniques, as well as exploring new methods, thus developing the capability to drive the realisation of creative applications of AI. Overall, this MSc will provide you with knowledge and skills required to deploy the power of computational intelligence to both creative environments (facing audiences) and creative practice and workflows (facing practitioners).

| If there are additional awards associated with the programme upon which students can register, please specify the Statement of Purpose for that programme. This will be most relevant for PGT programmes with exit awards that are also available as entry points. Use additional rows to include more than one additional award. Do not include years in industry / abroad (for which there are separate boxes).
| Exit Award Title | Is the exit award also available as an entry point? | Outcomes: what will the student be able to do on exit with this award? | Specify the module diet that the student will need to complete to obtain this exit award
| Postgraduate Diploma in Artificial Intelligence for the Creative Industries. | Exit award only | Students Exiting with a Postgraduate Diploma must be able to: PLO1 Understand a range of AI methods, analyse and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in the context of real-world applications for creative industries. PLO2 Identify and model different ways in which AI techniques and systems can be deployed to both creative workflows and in digital objects ‘consumed’ by the end users, and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses regarding functionality and technical requirements. PLO3 Analyse AI systems - consisting of data sets, algorithms, software, people and contexts - as employed in creative workflows or in digital objects ‘consumed’ by the end users and determine their potential negative ethical implications accounting for copyright, privacy, safety, bias, discrimination, and manipulation (e.g. through fakes). PLO4 Identify requirements and architect solutions (design and prototype) for novel creative applications of AI in selected areas of the Creative and Cultural Sector (music, games, film and TV, theatre cultural heritage, etc.) and drive their realisations in collaboration with AI specialists. PLO5 and PLO6 partially: PLO5 Understand how to apply, customise and extend existing AI techniques and models to address specific needs (individual problems) deriving from different scenarios in creative industries, maximising code reuse and productivity. PLO6 Sketch an interactive AI-driven methods in selected areas of the Creative and Cultural Sector (music, games, film and TV, theatre cultural heritage, etc.) . | Successfully complete modules worth 120 credits. This would normally consist of completing 80 credits worth of taught modules and a smaller scale independent project accompanied by either a 7000 words disertation or a prototype and a 4000 words report. Such independent work would be specified on a case by case basis and will be used for students who cannot complete the full individual project.
| Postgraduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence for the Creative Industries. | Exit award only | Students Exiting with a Postgraduate Certificate must be able to: PLO1 Understand a range of AI methods, analyse and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in the context of real-world applications for creative industries. PLO2 Identify and model different ways in which AI techniques and systems can be deployed to both creative workflows and in digital objects ‘consumed’ by the end users, and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses regarding functionality and technical requirements. PLO4 Identify requirements for novel creative applications of AI in selected areas of the Creative and Cultural Sector (music, games, film and TV, theatre cultural heritage, etc.) and analyse/sketch their realisations in collaboration with AI specialists. | Successfully complete modules worth 60 credits, which can be any combination of the taught modules. This award is most commonly used in cases when students fail to engage with the Individual Project module.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Programme Learning Outcomes
| What are the programme learning outcomes (PLOs) for the programme? (Normally a minimum of 6, maximum of 8). Taken together, these outcomes should capture the distinctive features of the programme and represent the outcomes that students progressively develop in the programme and achieve at graduation. PLOs should be worded to follow the stem 'Graduates will be able to...'

| The use of AI in the creative industries is only just beginning, but the opportunities for the deployment of AI to creative practice are imense. This programme will prepare some of the pioneers of AI for the Creative Industries. Skills for employability are embedded throughout the programme, with opportunities for students to return to skills throughout the degree. Throughout the programme case studies from the creative industry are used, and several modules (e.g. Creative Practice Applications of AI, AI Generalities ) base lectures and practicals on realistic scenarios where students are exposed to managed risks and project management.
