38	Physical Description							Background
39	Despite being 17, Mao has a small body, similar to someone 2 years younger. He also looks somewhat feminine dueto his stature and hair. He has medium length, teal hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. He wears an oversized green sweater, covered by a darker green cloak. He wears loose grey pants, as well as a pair of earmuffs that double as headphones. Despite his small build, he takes advantage of his size to move quickly and freely.							Mao barely remembers his early years. He remembers his parents being dissaopointed in his small, frail body and mind. He also remembers the children around him making fun of him at every opportunity for his naivety and innocence. Finally, he remembers his parents taking him on a trip through a forest, only to leave him there without a word. He spent his years surviving on berries and befriending pokemon, giving him a deep love for the creatures, as well as an innate connection to their feelings and spirits. Creatures of all shapes and sizes that cared for him regardless of how strong he was. Eventually, though his body was still underdeveloped, he gained incredible flexibilty and finesse, able to keep up with many of the pokemon around him. He was more like a fairy than an beast, lightly hopping through the trees, picking berries for his pokemon friends, and doing whatever else he felt would be fun. Years passed, and one day a passing couple found Mao lying amongst half eaten poisonous berries, and carried him back to their home in Bellus. They cared for the boy, and took him in as their own, giving him food, clothes, a place to live, and a new family to call his own. To repay their kindness, Mao did his best to do everything that would make them proud, and they saw him as their own son. When Mao's new parents decided to take him on a trip to Melodes, Mao got to witness his first pokemon contest. Seeing pokemon and trainer perform so brilliantly on the stage, in perfect sync, mesmerized him. He decided at that point to become a Coordinator to have fun alongside his pokemon, as well as hear the cheers of the people. When he returned home, he began practicing calling out moves and performing alongside an imaginary pokemon, hopping around playfully to his parents delight. They knew that it would be hard to get a pokemon and become a coordinator, however, and decided to have him apply to Olmia to pursue his dream. Their kindness and consideration made it all the more difficult for Mao to tell them that he failed the entrance exam due to a lack of technical know-how, as well as accidentally falling asleep. He suddenly recieved a message from Trinity, offering him acceptance into Olmia, in return for working with Trinity. While hesitant at first due to the rumors he had heard, he finally chose to accept. After seeing contests, and living with the pokemon in his childhood, he couldn't stand the idea of the average person not being able to have one as their own friend. So, with a tearful goodbye to his parents, he set off for Olmia, hoping to make his parents proud, accomplish his dreams, and help make Zaphros a place where pokemon and humans could freely be friends.

41	Mao's past has caused him to be more strange and aloof, being carefree and softspoken. Despite this, his interactions with pokemon when he was young have given him a friendly, playful personality that is always willing to listen to others and help when he can. His mindset can be said to be that of a much younger child, believeing in peace and hope, though he can quickly focus his efforts towards a task if need be. He tends to hop around like an excited small creature, both due to his natural energy, as well as his time in the forests making him anxious to move about. He sees pokemon as equals to humans, both as living creatures and as friends, and values them just as much as he vales his foster family. He is fascinated by all pokemon, even bugs and ghosts, and believes all pokemon can be his friends someday. He is also very quick to get flustered under pressure, worrying about whether he's helping or not. He prefers to just be called Mao, as he still thinks he doesn't fully deserve to be a part of his new family. Mao has no ill will against Olmia Academy, but is more than willing to help trinity so that all people can easily live with pokemon, not just academy students.							Mao has a number of goals in mind. The first is to make his foster parents, who raised him and treated him like real family, proud by enrolling in Olmia Academy. His next goal is to make plenty of new friends out in the rest of Zaphros, having spent most of his memorable life in Fero. To do this, he aspires to become a coordinator, wowing crowds with brilliant displays of grace alongside his pokemon. Lastly, he wants to make Zaphros a land where anyone can be friends with pokemon, regardless of skill, education, or status. He wants everyone to know the joy he felt with his friends in the forest.
