5 | This website contains lists of the hardest graded climbs in the world. The information on the lists is based on various publicly available news sources, such as climbing-related news websites (e.g., UKC, ClimbingNarc, 8a.nu, and Planet Mountain), climbers’ blogs and tick lists, books, and videos. The lists are by no means complete and may contain inaccuracies due to the subjective nature of grading. However, the lists try to provide as objective and comprehensive a view as possible, and will be adjusted accordingly whenever new information becomes available. 7 | How to read the lists | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8 | The website is divided into four lists: bouldering (blocs), bouldering (traverses), sport climbing, and free soloing. Each list is then divided into three sub-categories as follows: confirmed, proposed, and downgraded by multiple repeaters (or more than one grade by one repeater). For each climb, the following information is provided: name, repeaters' grades, proposed grade, crag, country, first ascent, established, repeats (incl. suggested grade and date of ascent), source/media, and additional information. Repeaters' grades shows the grade(s) given by the climbers who have repeated the problem. Proposed grade shows the grade proposed by the first ascentionist. Source/Media provided a link to a news item or video. Additional information describes the problem and its history in more detail. About the sub-categories. A problem falls into the “proposed” category if it has no repeats or the grades given by the climbers vary a lot. A problem is put into the “confirmed” category if one or more repeaters have confirmed the boulder or route grade to be 8C/8C+/9A or 9b/9b+/9c, respectively. A problem is moved into the “downgraded by multiple repeaters” category if that is the case. Recategorization is always considered upon a new problem repetition.
