Mutual aid, as opposed to charity, does not connoate moral superiority of the giver over the receiver. Mutual aid networks can provide goods and services directly in a decentralized manner. They are dependent on core principles of community, education, and human decency.

HOW IT WORKS:We pair volunteers with neighbors who need help. Once you've submitted to our form, a neighborhood coordinator will contact you and figure out the entire scope of your request. They will then work to assign a nearby volunteer who can help you.
22
23
Examples of tasks we can help with: buying and delivering groceries, picking up prescriptions, 1:1 conversation & companion (via Skype, Zoom, etc), translation, social services guidance (filing for medicare, unemployment), preparing cooked food, dog walking, and in certain cases childcare/petcare.
24
25
26
Things we can't do but can help connect you to the right resource: provide medical advice, offer legal reprsentation/advocacy, mental health counseling, and anything else that might be deemed outside of the scope of what our volunteers can do legally/safely.

GROCERY SHOPPINGIf you request help with grocery shopping, your assigned volunteer will reach out to figure out a delivery time & your grocery list. After they are purchased, your volunteer will send you a picture of the receipt, and you can reimburse them via Venmo/PayPal (preferable) or cash.
31
32
Please note: Due to safety concerns, volunteers will head to the closest grocery store. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Target, and Park Slope Food Co-Op tend to have crowds, limited supplies, and long waiting lines and we will not be asking volunteers to go there.
33
34
Need help covering groceries? Please note that in your request form. We will fulfill grocery requests as they come in. If we do not have funds to cover your needs immediately, we will let you know, and will also work to get you in-contact with other funds/service providers who can help.

Everything will go towards reimbursing volunteers for groceries or supplies needed to run tasks. This might include buying cleaning supplies for senior centers or face masks for volunteers. Even $5 is helpful!
