- Communication with the patients and the doctors is in Arabic and French. Some departments
are also available in English.
- Emergency, Psychiatry and some Paediatrics departments requires Arabic and French fluent speakers.

Most of the doctors in all University Hospitals are able to speak English but the primary language used
in patient work is Slovak.

The student must be able to communicate in English in a hospital environment.
The student's English skills should meet at least the standard of CEFRL level B2 (upper-intermediate)
or equivalent, and this must be proved by an official language proficiency test endorsed and stamped
by an English professor.
The certificate must include the name of the student.

OR

An official (stamped) written affirmation, that the language of the student’s studies in Medicine,
at the university, is English (educational media, lectures, and exams). The document should also
mention the name of the student.

We DO NOT ACCEPT high school certificates, certificates of language courses without mention
of the CEFR level

The student must be able to communicate in at least one of the following languages in order
to be accepted:
-Spanish
-English(*) Communication with patients will be in Spanish.
(*) Availability to receive english speaking student per city varies throughout the year. Please note,
Chile is a Spanish speaking country and clinical practice will be solely in this language.
The student may only be able to talk in English with their tutor and other exchange students/Chilean
medical students. Please do not expect that the rotation will be in English or that many patients will be
able to communicate in this language. Even if we can accept english speaking students, we strongly suggest
to take a Spanish course before coming to the country (the more extensive the course, the better).

(°) Places for English speakers are considerably reduced due to the return to face-to-face classes.
If you wish to apply only speaking English, keep in mind that it is probably that you will be not
selected in your desired city and department.

(*)The student should state their knowledge of English and Spanish in their Application Form
using the following scale: Native/Excellent/Good/Fair/Unknown. Other languages are not required.
If the student does not have the level of language stated on the Application Form, the exchange will be cancelled.

-It’s true that french is our second language, but English is the official language for the professional
exchanges that we provide, so even if French is helpful with patients, it’s not compulsory, meanwhile
English is mandatory.

-If the English abilities of any student are judged insufficient, the student
participation to the exchange program can be suspended at any time.
- Our dialect that we use with patients is based on the Arabic Language
mixed in a pot with amazigh ( Numedian), french & Italian.

We request a level B2 for English. If the student cannot provide official documentation (IELTS, CAE, TOEFL)
and applies with a signed document from their NMO then they must undergo an interview with our local committee
before their exchange.

If the level of English is not sufficient, the clerkship can be canceled.
