| 2022/12/01 5:05:08 PM EST | Smaller class sizes at the elementary level would make a bigger impact than part-time interventionists. Large classes impact the learning of all students, even those who appear to be reaching benchmarks.
| 2022/12/01 5:55:48 PM EST | As a parent of a CCPS student, I would appreciate seeing these funds directed towards improving and enhancing learning programs (with less emphasis put on these air and sanitizing methods that are mentioned throughout the facts sheet). Our students suffered from being forced to learn from home and many parents, such as myself, were forced to work from home while attempting to help the teachers as well. Both the teachers and parents were put into a situation where we struggled to get our students through the 2020-21 year and now we have students who are far behind prior acceptable metrics, for reading in particular. Please focus on the learning elements and helping our teachers out instead of all of the cleanliness items.
| 2022/12/01 5:58:07 PM EST | I think kids should be in school 5 days a week. This is vital to the learning and it shouldn’t be put on parents once a month to teach their kids. They have way too many days out of school. Please fix this and let the school go back to normal 5 days a week. But with better communication to parents, we always find out after the fact about stuff instead of when it’s happening. This needs to change.
| 2022/12/01 6:28:54 PM EST | As an employee of CCPS, I am seeing severe deficits in learning among most students in each core subject, behavioral issues, and stunted psychological wellness at the secondary school level. It is my belief that funds should be used to support both Math and Reading deficits, increased funding for true counseling services which are not currently being provided by the Guidance Office, and funding to enlarge the Alternative School to permanently house those students who are crippling the ability of the majority of students to have a positive learning environment.
| 2022/12/01 6:45:11 PM EST | One of the bigger problems still not fully addressed is SEL loss as well as Trauma caused by the pandemic. The other question is how the funds can be used not to "return to normal" but to find the right new normal.

| 2022/12/01 8:12:01 PM EST | I agree with the funding for education
| 2022/12/02 7:53:54 AM EST | Retaining current employees and keeping reasonable class sizes is imperative to recover learning loss. Use funds to promote retention.
| 2022/12/02 8:15:30 AM EST | The funds should be used for instructional purposes. Summer school, project graduation, remediation materials, etc. I believe Dr. Seal's suggestions are exactly how we should be using these monies. In other districts things like this are already in place and are successful so why not offer these programs to our students.
| 2022/12/02 8:15:48 AM EST | At J-WMS summer school/enrichment needs to be implemented back. Many students are barely passing classes and would benefit from a tutor, summer program or something to help them feel caught up. The behaviors being expressed is mostly due to the fact that the students don't understand so they give up and act out to distract from them learning. Our building is extremely dirty. I know concerns have been brought to Mr. White and Mrs. Rivera. Things will look good for a couple days then go back to how they were. I have entered the building in the morning and still see food on the staircase or nasty foot prints on the floor...when no students were in the building over night.
| 2022/12/02 1:32:43 PM EST | I am finding my student for the most part are back on track. The one thing I still see is a lack of urgency in completing assignments, perhaps due to the policies we had during Covid years. It has been up to me to catch students up, as an elective teacher. There is no formal plan for remediation for elective classes. We have a social worker on staff that meets with students for counseling, which is a great thing. I wish there were more.
| 2022/12/05 2:39:49 PM EST | The reality is that money alone can not and will not change students' learning or get them "caught up" to previous standards. I teach in Loudoun County Public Schools, have close friends who teach and work for education firms across the country, and even produce my own education podcast. There are hundreds of companies across the US clambering for these federal funds, and they'll promise every possible gain and positive outcome to secure a contract. I advise a careful consideration of the reputation, longevity, and prior results of any company or firm CCPS hires to assist with the remediation efforts. Unfortunately, many of these companies will provide a flashy, attractive service that ultimately has little impact on student learning. I have listed my specific recommendations below and would be happy to discuss them further or to assist with this process if that would be helpful. 1) Ask the teachers what they need. Is there a particular program, book, or app that might help? Give the teachers the tools they like rather than what upper admin likes. 2) Pay teachers extra or hire other reliable adults to run after-school remediation and tutoring programs. We are trying to make up for lost time and opportunity, so the best way to regain them might be through offering optional after-school classes and support. 3) Offer classes in the evening to teach parents how to teach their children to read, write, and think mathematically. Parents are kids' first teachers, and unfortunately, not all parents are equipped with the academic knowledge or pedagogical skill to support their students at home. If we offered classes so that parents could learn the content and how to teach it, students might receive more support at home, thereby increasing their learning and potentially improving family dynamics. 4) For high school students, I like Delta Math, No Red Ink, Nearpod, and a subscription to Tutor.com. Tutor.com is particularly interesting because students can meet online with tutors or submit their work for review and feedback. This provides personalized learning without overburdening the already busy CCPS teachers. It can also translate to additional opportunities because teachers' time can be spent planning, teaching, and mentoring with a bit less grading/feedback that otherwise dominates teachers' unencumbered time. Again, I'm happy to discuss any of these ideas or offer additional support as necessary. I hope CCPS makes great use of the funds and this opportunity.
| 2022/12/07 5:56:10 PM EST | I would have liked to have seen more interventionists hired and think those positions should stay after the funds run out. In addition, we may want to consider a new class at the middle school that is just for math remediation/intervention.
| 2022/12/09 3:40:36 PM EST | I would like to see the grant funds spent on STEM and other learning equipment and classroom supplies that will get my kids back up to the level they should be. New laptops, updated science labs, updated computer labs, updated audio visual equipment, new sports equipment for PE. Lights for the middle school football field. New stadium and announcer box at the middle school field. Updated concession stand at the middle school field.

| 2022/12/29 9:51:48 AM EST | I would encourage CCSD to use ESSER funds to examine prescriptive measures to bridge the lack of phonics and phonemic awareness for students in grades 2-5 who missed these critical foundational pieces during the pandemic. I would further encourage CCSD to commit to PD to support strong SEL foundations. The mental crisis in our youth must be addressed and this is a way to do so while building capacity.
