1Very good job! Very well done!Aurel MaresMy pleasure. Thank you for attending.

2Can we mount Non API VS4 pump without sole plate?
If YES, any problems or caution we have to consider?
Pushpak AkhadeYou don't NEED a soleplate. You can set the pump on top of a prepared foundation. The advantage of a soleplate is it can be installed at the time of pouring the foundation, the anchor bolts are sure to be in the right place, and the sole plate can be leveled ready for receipt of the pump. Pump installation is therefore quicker and easier.
9
3What design standard you normally apply for industrial standard pumps.Loek HofmanHydraulic Institute Standard (HI) is the International norm.
10
4What do I need to take into account when selecting a VS6 for liquid (cooled) ammonia service?nico van DuijvendijkMaterials of construction. Liquid Ammonia is about -33 deg C. This means Low Temperature steel A352 Type LCB is suitable. BUT you will find it is not readily available. It isn't usually held by stockists so you might well have long delivery times.
I recommend go for 316ss which is readily available and will probably work out less expensive in the longrun
11
5How important is leveling of sole plate for vertical pumps? What problems can occur in case leveling requirement is not achieved?Stéphane LecarpentierIf the headplate is not level the lineshaft will not be truly concentric within the lineshaft bearings. It could lead to premature bearing wear.
12
6What is the purpose of separating the first-stage impeller far below the barrel from the other impellers in a VS6 pump?ILHAM MAULANA ARFAHI cannot think of any advantage. It is just an example of how European Design Engineers and American Design Engineers come up with two different ways of addressing the same problem.
13
7max. possible lenght i.e. depth possible for VS6 pump?
Also, How much max. stages can be offered for VS6 pump?
Pushpak AkhadeThere is no real limit. This type of pump (without the barrel, so really a VS1 pump, but the design is the same) is used offshore at lengths of 30 to 40m long.
VS6 pumps are frequently 10m long
14
8Is line shaft bearing support is to be consider wettted or not? What is the recommened MOC for same?
Should we consider same MOC as pump casing or internal?
Pushpak AkhadeThe bearing supports (or "spiders") are made of the same material as the column pipe. So usually steel, but stainless steel or duplex if that is the material of the pump.
15
9Thank you for the great presentation,
Are there any mandatory requirements in standards for VS4 basket or its mesh size?
naghmeh dahiMy pleasure. Thank you for attending.
The strainer mesh should be sized for the maximum solid size that will pass through the impeller.
So this will be a much smaller mesh size on a "standard" ANSI hydraulic radial design impeller than on a "non-clog" impeller.
The pump supplier will recommend the right mesh size for his design

1At which locations do you typically install the acceleromometers to monitor vibration?paul berthiaumeAssuming thrust bearing is in the motor, then we recommend an accelerometer on the motor adjacent to the bearing to detect motor bearing problems, and a second one on the pump / motor mounting flange to detect pump vibrations.
If the thrust bearing is in the pump, then an accelerometer in the bearing housing itself adjacent to the thrust bearing
26
2For the VS6, are there acceptable methods to store the pump long-term in the horizontal position?paul berthiaumeIt is OK to store the pump horizontally in a dry, indoor location. We recommend the box be opened ever 3 to 6 months and the shaft turned so it does not sit on the bearings for long periods.
27
3Which RuhRPumpen facilites have the ability to acceptance test a VS6 pump?paul berthiaumeAll of them. Tulsa, Monterrey, Witten, Cairo Egypt, Chennai India.
Only the Lancing UK factory does not have the test facility (it specialises in reciprocating pumps).
28
4For VS6 pumps, what else can be done to address potential alignment/vibration issues in the field (i.e., thrust bearing selection, bushing selection, vibration instrumentation, etc.)?Anonymous AttendeeVS6 pumps are problem solvers not problem creators. If you buy from a reputable manufacturer you should get many years of trouble free operation

7For VS6 Pump design, if the pump is mounted in a module, does it help to have a separate mounting plate, so Seal plan is easy to connect and pump is easy to remove.Manish HingrajiaI misunderstood your question during the meeting.
Now I look at it properly, yes you are absolutely right!
Having the seal system (plan 52/53) separately mounted alongside the pump discharge head and not mounted hanging from it will certainly ease removing of the pump bowl assembly for maintenance.
32
8Thank you very much!Chris Street

9is the coupling designed to only remove the mech seal only? in the past, we are stuck with removing the housing and bushingjeremy khooThe spacer coupling should be sized so the mechanical seal and the pump thrust bearing assembly can be removed through the spacer.
HOWEVER on larger pumps the thrust bearing assembly will be pretty heavy and it is usually easier to remove the motor and lift the thrust bearing out vertically.

11have heard of resonance issues for large pumps with mounting support. any advice how to be proactive? Vanessa MarshallSomewhere in the region of 20% of new installations which have not been tried and tested in similar configurations will experience natural resonant frequency problems.
An example I remember vividly from when I was a Project Manager in Tulsa.
We built a pump (850 VLT-15 stage as I recall) operating at 3600rpm but (unusually) with a thrust bearing in the pump nozzle head.
This pump had been supplied many, many times at 3600rpm with a thrust bearing in the motor.
It had been supplied many, many times at 3000rpm with a thrust bearing in the pump.
But it was the first time it had been supplied at 3600rpm with a thrust bearing in the pump.
Sure enough we hit a natural resonant frequency at the running speed.
We carried out a structural vibration analysis and worked out what change needed to be made (adding a stiffening rib or removing a stiffening rib) to bring the natural frequency away (by 20% or more) from the running speed.
All the major VS6 pump suppliers have the capabilities to do these analyses so always buy from one of the big boys! (especially from RP!!!!)
36
12thx Simonjeremy khooMy pleasure.
37
13How do you address water ingress into the bearing housing of a VS6 pump and subsequently damaging bearingOlakunle FadoyeniThe thrust bearing has an inpro seal to exclude water penetrating from above. You can also have a disc attached to the shaft which will act as a flinger and an umbrella to protect the bearing from water ingress.
38
14the water ingress is external from rain water Olakunle Fadoyeni
39
15Does the line shaft bearing interact with the fluid?Anonymous AttendeeYes a VS6 or a VS4 pump lineshaft will be in contact with the process fluid and needs to be of suitable material to resist corrosion.
Standard material on an S1, S4, S5, construction pump will be 416SS
A8 will be 316SS and D1, D2 materials will have duplex or super duplex lineshafts.
VS1 pumps (deepwell type pumps) sometimes have enclosed lineshaft construction the shaft is protected from the process fluid by an enclosing tube. The lineshaft bearings are then lubricatied by drip oil from the surface rather than by the pumped fluid.
