Approval of Agenda / MinutesJessie5Karen motioned to approve the minutes of March 22, 2017 meeting.   Vangie seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. Karen motioned to approve the agenda of the April 19, 2017 meeting.  Vangie seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.

Principal's ReportPhil10MHS students are undergoing various testing. Master scheduling is still progressing. Registration project is pending on IT status and new Principal transition..

ASB ReportMaya5Senior prom is Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Tech Museum at 7:30PM.  Spirit Week - each day represents a class.  There was a request for prom picture package pricing be made available.

State PTA ConferenceJessie2One pass, sponsored by Bob Nunez, was received. PTSA President, Jessie Keung, will be attending. Need a letter signed as membership proof.PTSA President will send Bob Nunes a "Thank You" note on behalf MHS PTSA.

Budget ReportKumi5Chuck Lingle motioned to adjust PTSA Conference/     Luncheon line item from $270 to $60.  Yoli Garcia seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

Treasurer's ReportKumi5Received E-Waste funds of $52.05, Escrip funds of $1.55, membership funds of $20 and receipts not belonging to PTSA of $20 for a total of $93.60.  Expenses were $60 for PTSA Conference/Luncheon.  Balance of monthly activity is $33.60, checking balance is $2,320, savings balance is $7,696.93 for a Total Cash on Hand of $10,016.93.Stephanie Cina motioned to approve Check Request #12 for $100 to pay Milpitas Council of PTAs 20 member dues.  Yoli Garcia seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

Check RatificationKumi2Yoli Garcia motioned to ratify Check #1405/Ck Request #11 to pay Jessie Keung $60 to reimburse her for PTSA luncheon.  Chuck Lingle seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

PTSA Officers Nomination and electionJessie/Irma/Regina5Phil Morales motioned to approve the 2017-2018 PTSA Officer Slate: President - Jessie Keung, Vice President - Stephanie Cina, Treasurer - Steve Fu, Secretary - Chuck Lingle, Parliamentarian - Sandro Brenciaglia, Historian - Regina Sueoka, and Membership - Vangie Robillos. Yoli Garcia seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.

MembershipVangie2Current membership is 161: 111 parents, 40 students, 8 staff, and 2 community members.  One membership could not be collected.  Suggest to elimiate "Bill me later." option next year.

Scholarship committeeYolie2All donation request letters and postage was donated by Yolie Garcia.  Eight donations were received totalling $1,090 + $1,586.78 (carry over from last school year's soda sales) = $2,676.78.  Scholarship awardees will be announced at Senior Awards Night.Robert Jung motioned to approve six $500 PTSA scholarships for the 2016-2017 school year.  Chuck Lingle seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.  Chuck Lingle motioned to adjust budget expense line item Scholarships from $3,500 to $3,000.  Stephanie Cina seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.  Robert Jung motioned to create a new budget line item to Expenses: General Fund for $400 to fund additional scholarship.  Chuck Lingle seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

Annual Historian ReportCheryl5Cheryl Flesner was not present, but she is working on the report which is due to the Milpitas Council by 4/30/17.

Saving account issueRobert5Need a general vote on the letter to the Bank of the West requesting release of the PTSA savings account, approving the resolutions and signed by PTSA Secretary. We will offer the signed letter, a copy of the April minutes, a copy of the PTSA bylaws, and the general Articles of Incorporation, so that the bank can change the account and link it properly.Robert Jung motioned to approve release of the PTSA savings account that was incorrectly set up.  The account will be set up correctly as explained by Robert Jung.  Phil Morales seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

Robert Jung motioned to combine Fall Staff Grant funds of $1,500 w/ the Spring Staff Grant funds to total $3K.  Yoli Garcia seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.  Chuck Lingle motioned for the staff grant to cap at $3K.  Phil Morales seconded the motion.  Motion denied unanimously.  Sandro Brenciaglia motioned to have two staff grants w/ no cap.  Phil Morales seconded the motion.  Motion denied unanimously.  Steve Fu motioned to solve staff grant requests depending on requests submitted.  Chuck Lingle seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

Shoparoo/Amazon SmileJessie1Shoparoo goal this year is to reach $125K points to get $225. Need more participation (currently 41 supporters/45K points). You can also help MHS's indirect fund raiser by shopping on Amazon - go to smile.amazon.com and select MHS PTSA. No checks received.

MCEE scholarshipRobert Jung2MCEE is offering scholarships for Juniors for SAT study sessions.  Will ask Counselor to recommend a student who is socially, economically impacted.  Also, offering two $500 scholarships in memory of Danny Lau.  Applicants must submit a 1,000 word essay.  Winners will be announced the first week of April.

MCEE Summer Job FairRobert Jung5MCEE is sponsoring a Summer Job Fair for MHS students on 5/5/17 from 9AM - 12Noon to take place at the San Jose City College (SJCC)/MHS campus.  Job Fair is for MHS and Cal Hills students.  There are volunteer opportunities, unpaid internships, and six workshops.  150+ students have signed up.  Will try to do annually.  Will be announced through SchoolLoop and can sign up on that day.

Dates / Events to be aware of

Comcast CareJessie5Comcast Care day is this Saturday, 4/22/17, from 8AM - 12PM; opening ceremony is at 8:15AM. Gathering location is SJCC/MHS campus.  Volunteers will get a free T-shirt and lunch.  MHS student volunteers get community service hours.  Comcast will give MHS $ based on the # of MHS volunteers we bring.  Project includes landscaping and classroom cleaning. There are ~550 volunteers.

Parent SeminarJessie2Seminar for Test Prep was held on 3/29/2017; it was presented by Excel Test.

Graduation VIP Package Silent AuctionJessie / Robert5Graduation is on Friday, 6/2/17.  MHS PTSA is offeirng two VIP Packages which include 10 tickets, refreshments at the reception, 5 graduation leis, and they get to sit w/ the VIPs on the field. The Crab Feed auction was won by a Pomeroy teacher.  Bidding for the current package starts at $300 and increases in increments of $25.  Highest bidder at 11:59:59 wins the package.  Auction to start next Monday, 4/24/17, at 4PM.  Auction will be posted on the MHS website.

Teachers Appreciation LunchJessie5To be held on Tuesday, 5/16/17. Someone offered to sponsor 5 main course meal for 240 - 250 staff. MHS PTSA will provide appetizers, deserts, and drinks. Need volunteers.

Senior Awards NightYoli5Need 10 - 16 adult and student volunteers to help set up and serve refreshments.  Students can receive community service.  Will ask Kamari to recruit parent volunteers.  Yoli Garcia will work w/ staff to get student volunteers.
