1 | prosopis | The study “Germination of Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) D.C. seeds at different osmotic potentials and temperatures” (Miranda et al., 2013) examines the effects of various osmotic potentials and temperature regimes on the germination of Prosopis juliflora seeds, an invasive species thriving in the semiarid regions of northeastern Brazil. Controlled experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and sodium chloride (NaCl) solutions on seed germinability and physiological responses under water stress conditions. The results showed a significant decline in germination as osmotic stress increased, with more pronounced effects under NaCl treatments. This study provides valuable insights into the osmotic stress tolerance and adaptive mechanisms of P. juliflora in arid environments. Available at: https://doi.org/10.1111/1442-1984.12025 |
