We have not seen the full details of Social Programs That Work's calculation. Our best guess is, based on the information provided in the linked report, that Social Programs That Work used cost information reported in papers of randomized controlled trials of NFP's program and adjusted the figures for inflation.“This summary of the evidence on NFP is based on a systematic search of the literature andcorrespondence with leading researchers to identify all well-designed and implemented RCTs of NFP.” Pg 2.“IV. Summary of the Program’s Benefits and Costs… All monetary amounts shown are in 2017 dollars.” Pg 13."

"As described in the link, an analysis by Western Michigan University Researchers for the 2007-8 school year found that KIPP schools cost about $18,500 per student per year, part of which was funded by government and part by private donors. The KIPP organization disputed this number and estimated KIPP’s cost at around $12,000 per student per year. In our recent email communication with the KIPP organization, they estimated the 2016 cost of KIPP to be $12,665 per student per year." Pg 2.
