San Mateo CountyLook Ahead - San Mateo, is an innovative community engagement campaign utilizing 3D virtual reality technology, to increase public understanding of sea level rise and potential responses.

Look Ahead is hosting a free outdoor virtual reality viewing event and discussion on Saturday November 5th at Coyote Point Park with local youth-run community organization, Heirs to Our Oceans. Members of San Mateo County’s staff will be in attendance to answer questions, hear concerns, and engage in conversation with youth around sea level rise and climate adaptation.

Introduction to Isalm for Non-Muslims
Join us to open the Year of Solidarity and Outreach with a talk by Imam Hafiz M.K. Siddiqi, Ph.D. Beginning with an introduction to the basics of Islam, Imam Siddiqi plans to cover: the prophet Jesus in the Qur'an, the sacredness of life in Islam, the true meaning of jihad, the Islamic Sharei'ah legal system, and the role of women in Islam. He will look with us at the values we share as Christians and Muslims, as well as ways to see beauty in our diversity. After the presentation there will be a period for questions and responses.

The festival is 2 days away (sorry last minute!), this Friday, 10/27 6-10 and Saturday, 10/28 4:30-9:30. There are many fun jobs for high schoolers, such as running a game, helping with a craft, face painting, etc.

The first event begins at 8:30 until 4:30. We are having a breast cancer awareness donation booth where are young volleyball players will be distributing desserts and drinks throughout the day and creating a prayer board for those that are fighting breast cancer at this time. We are in need of some helpers to either supervise these kids throughout the day and/or keep score for the volleyball games that will be happening at the same location. The second event will begin at approximately 5:00 until 7:30. We are holding a cancer night the light walk where we will need helpers to set up bags all-around San Bruno Park and then work at a table as participants enter and distribute lanterns. When the walk is over we will need help cleaning up.
