Gold11/10/2011200.515001207.21 fish, full plants, "walsted feeding schedule", low volume airstone, minor plant growth :)
4
Gold11/21/201130030001207 :)Had added small planter with potting soil and some peat moss. Due for a water change. Note that pH went down slightly while GH went up. Nitrate and nitrite have also reversed. (changed about 1/3 of the water several hours later)
5
Gold11/23/201120015001807.2Had changed 1/3 water 2 days ago (and also scraped algae off the side of the tank that receives sunlight. The new plant in the soil/peat is quite happy.
6
Gold11/29/2011Back/left plant shooting off additional plants from the roots. :)

Starting to turn off airstone during the day to increase CO². Keeping at night for the time being for movement.

Banana has been stagnating for awhile. One Anubias leave turning slightly yellow. These might need to be moved to a tank with local tap water.
7
Gold12/14/2011Anubias leaves had started to yellow so I put it in glass jar in the window (laziness) with tap water. All the leaves were gone within 2 days. Turned airstone back on slightly for movement only. Banana is gone except for roots. Grass hasn't changed or grown much yet at all. Onions seem to be slightly brown at the base, less leave growth lately. Back left plant still growing well.Anubias like more oxygen?

Gold12/20/201120030003007.8Tested after dark at 6:00. Had turned bubbler back on a few days ago. Anubias base had disintegrated. Needs water change I guess. Maybe the peat moss "burned off"?
9
PrepTank12/20/2011003000806.8This tank has had an airstone and is also filtered through the bag of peat moss. Peat lowered the ph so now I have to determine how maintain certain levels (and raise other than adding hard tap water).
10
Gold12/22/2001half-assed partial water change. need to get better at keeping the preptank monitored and ready to use. need light in this tank so i can enjoy what's going on in there!
11
Gold12/26/201120030001807.8goldfish killed in new power head :( ordered filter for that intake valve. new fish not so happy. plants were divided a few days ago. new fish in plant in there now. ph still back at 7.8 .... how do i keep this down naturally?
12
Gold12/27/2011When I divided the plant last week I rubber banded 2 of them around a rock from the parking lot. Could the rubber or the rock be affecting the water quality? How do I tell?

Also, goldfish seems more animated with the airstone turned up. I suspect it's because of the water movement. Also just squeezed some "peat juice" in there from the prep tank. (was worried about an "alkaline bounce" (for lack of knowing correct term)
13
Gold12/30/201110015001807.6Removed airstone for small powerhead with filter. Fish seems quite happy. Using overhead light now and less window/sunlight (also because of glare from new desk location). Tank seems happy :) Just need another accent plant or two and then try to maintain :)fish happier with light and turbulence, but are the plants? doesn't seem like it. water is also crystal clear with the new filter.
14
Gold1/3/2012Repotted, rearranged. Added 2 new ones ... crypto spiny thing and the red thing in the glass container. moved one onion to the far left. noticed grass finally starting to grow after 2+ months.
15
Gold1/5/201210015001807.8ph not staying down.
16
PrepTank1/5/20120015001807peat moss bag has kept ph down. so does it go back up if source is removed, etc? how much of this would i keep in the primary tank?
17
Gold1/8/201210030001807.8is this a bad reading or did this just double the last few days? (this was the last test strip from this bottle)
18
Gold1/15/2012no more test strips. half-tank water change.
19
PrepTank1/15/2012prep tank needs an overhaul. would be nice to try chambers with various things like peat, charcoal, javamoss, etc. and then have a powerhead with intake from a tube at one end release at other end. new water seemed mildly brown .. could have been from old dirt or from peat bag? wondering if vitamin supplement would first go in preptank or directly into main tank.
20
Gold1/17/2012Put about 1/3-1/2 dose (2.5ml?) in the tank. Probably shouldn't do this. Need to check iron and phosphate levels now I guess somehow.
21
Gold1/19/20122001501807.6New test strip kit ("Jungle") doesn't have chlorine test. Hoping the vitamin shot is what caused the nitrate level to go up and that the plants will bring that back down. New test kit looks the same but might not be as accurate. I wouldn't expect water changes to reduce hardness but my preptank is filtered through the peat bag. Goldfish seems about as happy as a fish could be. add humis to the list of preptank substances. peat cakes also might be good for burying.
22
Gold1/24/2012Need to get those white rocks out of there. Moved larger potted plant more into the light.
23
Gold1/27/2012Test comment in this non-data entry.Took out the one big white rock. Shortened the lighting by 2 hours on the timer. Is this going to increase CO2? Potted plants seem to like "non-shade".
24
Gold6/6/2012200100n/a3008.4fish happy ... large plants becoming less happy ... 8.5 PH? probably needs more peat / CO2 !!
25
Mini-16/8/2012001501808.2I thought the PH would be much higher. I guess not. There is a sock of peat under the gravel. What gives?
26
Gold6/14/2012Filter head has been off since yesterday when I removed it to steal some bacteria for the new test tank. Might wait a few days or a week just to see what the water looks like with no motion or filter.
27
28
Gold1/25/2013snails have been multiplying. some plants died back. haven't tested water in awhile.
