My first ever romance was Paradise by Judith McNaught! I was 14. But I was still just a dabbler. It didn't stick for me until after I read Twilight in my mind-20s. But five years ago I met current Romances, and oh hey, not my grandma's formula stories! AND there's m/m and queer ones?? Gimme!

21/05/2021 16:54@tcshieldsTracy Shields#RomBkLove 2021 Day 21: Personal Canon 1/6 I'm afraid to think about the first romance I read - had to be 25+ years ago. There's been a lot of reads since then, I didn't track my reading until Jan 2020 (tbh, I still can't tell you what I read last week) RT @anacoqui: #RomBkLove 2021 day 21: Personal Canon Do you remember your first romance novel? What romances turned you into a romance reader and defined romance for you? Do you have ones you always rec? @allieiswriting shares her personal romance canon:

21/05/2021 16:54@tcshieldsTracy Shields#RomBkLove 2021 Day 21: Personal Canon 3/6 My romance reads back in the day overlapped heavily with SFF. Urban fantasy / PNR got me into contemporaries. I eventually discovered historicals. I remember burning through Susan Johnson (can you say problematic?) like it was my job.

21/05/2021 16:54@tcshieldsTracy Shields#RomBkLove 2021 Day 21: Personal Canon 2/6 SFF was my entry into Romancelandia, so it's a bit hazy what qualifies as my first true romance read. Mid-90s, I read Dara Joy's Knight of Trillion Stars, Paradise City by Sherrilyn Kenyon, and Jayne Ann Krentz's Sweet Starfire.

21/05/2021 16:54@tcshieldsTracy Shields#RomBkLove 2021 Day 21: Personal Canon 5/6 I'll read most any kind of romance, but SFF romance is my lodestone. I was an early adopter of ebooks (downloaded tons from Ellora's Cave), reading them on my computer before kindle happened. I only get certain authors in print now.

21/05/2021 16:54@tcshieldsTracy Shields#RomBkLove 2021 Day 21: Personal Canon 4/6 In early 2000s, an acquaintance suggested I read Nora Roberts. Somehow I'd missed her. Romance reads were my outlet in grad school during the mid-aughts; even did a research project focused on romance genre, looking at author websites.

21/05/2021 17:02@anacoquiAna Coqui#RomBkLove RT @ingloriousgigi: I don't remember my first. However, I do remember the one that stuck with the longest and it's 'Delaney's Desert Sheikh' by Brenda Jackson. It was the first time I ever saw a Black woman on the cover of a romance novel and I was never the same after that.

21/05/2021 17:51@shantrovertShannon Morgan#RomBkLove Day 21: Personal Canon I started reading Rom in 2012. The premise of Tessa Dare's A WEEK TO BE WICKED sucked me in. I glommed her backlist, then inhaled everything Sherry Thomas had out. Then I gobbled up Cara McKenna's contemps (Kelly Robak's still a Top 10 hero).
