2KNBYou start off strong with some killer internal sync, but it starts to get more "loose" the further we go in. There are a lot of sakuga clips here but I feel like some parts of the vid rely too much on that, don't be afraid to cut those up to tighten up the sync, bc you can definitely make this combo work
3
A boyfriend with good skillsMaking a trailer with a live action source is ambitious but I am not sure if it works. I know you have technical skills you can't rely on like lipsync, but considering how we all know what live trailers look like, cut arounds like not showing a person talking just don't work
4
A Heroes Tough Journey Nice to see the original Trigun anime show up even with the shiny new reboot, I feel like while I got to see a lot of different aspects of the show's plot, I ended up with too much detail. I think paradoxically zooming out some to focus on just the general outline of the plot and leaning into more the action would give us a better feel for the journey
5
Affairs of the HeartI am really fond of this one, the storytelling is crystal clear with both characters struggling with infidelity, and for what looks to be a simple source you try and make the most of it with clever internal sync and lighting choices; moments like 0:25-0:30, 1:08, 1:47-1:50 rock, honestly my biggest critique is that going from the shot of the woman wearing the ring at 0:14, to the couple together is a little jarring, it feels like a sudden angle chance so I think you just need to flip one of those scenes to be golden
6
Albert Wesker vs Puggy HawkingCute dog, I made sure to watch the previous vid this was said to a parody of, but I still struggled to get the punchline of choosing this character for the match up against a pug
7
All a Little LostSweet video, I think one thing that could be cool to see would be seeing Riley's struggles and the emotions paralleled more. Getting to see more explictedly how Joy and Sadness feel lost and have to learn to accept the feeling rather than just their physical journey would help that finale really hit
8
Attack of the MinimaxersFun concept, really fits the tone of the show, but I feel like it took a while to get to really insane Maple shenanigans. Considering she eats a monster in episode 1, I don't think you have to worry about holding back for the finale. It might help to cut out the twins so you can include a wider range of footage
9
Average Oppenheimer EnjoyerGood action. I got a bit fatigued by all the random zooming around. Some of this I assume is just the nature of the show but moments like 1:34 hit well bc we have time to really absorb what is going on, so don't be afraid to give us a moment to breath
10
BECAUSE WE CARECare felt 100%, start off with a nice pace, but some of the sources flaws start to creep up on the video (blurry, hard to follow action) if you could cut that to a minimum that would help keep the focus on the tongue in cheek concept
11
Bleeding ColorsShattered by Trading Yesterdays my beloved. Despite my love for it and Neku, you get into such a nice pace by the end it made the first 2 minutes or so of slow set up feel superbulous, I feel like a shorter cut would you give you the space to really hone the emotions of this
12
Blonde FragilityI think whether you are going for comedy or ironic sincerity, this vid needs a bit more melodrama to really match its audio. While the name similarity is fun, I think the concept alone isn't strong enough to carry a whole video unless you lean into the camp
13
Bocchi the Rock! - Shooting Star First time I have heard this song outside a meme context, I like the more relaxed vibe but I still think you could have built more tension to make the 2nd half of the vid really fit the wistful but joyful climax
14
BonfireThis is a nice, comforting, sentimental vid. From some details, it sounds like the song was written to refer to like the Dark Souls bonfires, but I think you do a great job of expanding the symbol to represent more community and how we need each other to make it through life's hardships.
15
Cain and AbelI felt for these two brothers by the end. While I see you want to set up this duet narrative, I think it would be stronger if you established their bond a bit earlier. While they do share some scenes together in the first two verses, they aren't the focus, and I think the duet element would still be clear if you still kept the particular brother as our POV during his part
16
Champion - Anime MixI downloaded the google drive version just to make sure, but sadly I don't like how the sound is done in this vid. The quality is really blown out and in general it pretty much overwhelms the music. The best sound sync vids I've seen make sure the sound effects hit strong beats and accentuate what is already there in the music, and while there are some good moments in here, a lot is overwhelmed by just the constant sensory overload
17
Classic ActressThis song and source pairing could go wrong in many different ways, but you manage to make it work so well, just impossible not to smile. The wipes are simple but so so charming, especially as you include in some subtle masks for tricker transitions. I noticed a scene repeated twice at 0:19 and 1:59 and I am not sure if I got much of the story beyond this passing of the key and the painting being important, but still such a lovely vid
18
Creative's BlockSome slick editing going on here, always cute to see editors go meta but I would have liked to see more parts of the editing process represented. We see him search for inspo, edit, and get some feedback but I would like to see more of the epic highs and lows of obsessing over 5 seconds for 5 days lmao
19
Dance in MemoriamI have a really complicated relationship with grief that can make me resistant to clear attempts to tug at my heartstrings but once I sat with this video and watched it a few times I was able to appreciate it. Very well structured, I could nitpick how some of the dancing scenes feel a bit disconnected beyond the literal lyrics but overall you do a great job of showing a lot of different sides of the grieving process
20
DarknessHope you are enjoying the contest and having a fun time judging
21
Dead ReckoningSo much great tension on display here. You make the most of what looks to be a visually stunning source. While I don't need a concrete story for a vid like this, I do think just a smidge of context to the narrative would help as we see a lot of flashbacks but it is hard to figure out what that has to do with the red thing chasing the protag
22
DeathrattleSolid character profile, I think the introspective nature makes it lean sentimental category-wise. While we get a good sense of the concept I think a bit more focus on internal sync would make the editing hit just a bit harder
23
Diary of a Whiny SithThis is amusing but I'd be lying if I say I wasn't disappointed when I realized the audio was specifically written to be about Kylo Ren, makes the video and comedy so much more predictable since there is less room for you to reinterpret or add jokes in unexpected ways, but aside from my personal gripe this is solid editing
24
Dinner is SwervedThis is a lot of fun, very charming, can't believe the chicken little theme fits another major animated western movie so well. My only critique is that the clip of the dead rats on "light" at 1:04 is so quick yet grim it distracts me, but otherwise very well done
25
DistressedThere are some big name animes that I thought would be distracting in a mood piece like this, but the atmosphere is still impeccable. Despite the title and nature of a lot of clips, there's a confidence to the editing that makes the entire runtime soothing and relaxing
26
DO YOU WANT TO FUCK A GOOSE OR NOTI am biased bc I do ship the man and his goose together, but beyond pandering to me source wise, I feel like you do all you can to really elevate the already funny audio. The lipsync is great and expressive, you add so many additional jokes, just so much good stuff for a vid about goosefucking
27
DriftI really like this vid. There are a lot of good moments of flow and sync, but I think something that could really elevate this to the next level is if you played with lighting and color more. It can be pretty noticable when you flip between scenes with vastly different color palletes, and I think experimenting with lighting could really add to the tension before you go all out in the 2nd half
28
Facing the CanonYou did a good job of paralleling all the Peter Parkers, but I feel like the action could have been tightened up. There are a lot of stong beats in this song that could be really fun to lean into during the choruses
29
Feeling FabulousGalaxy brain concept, but there are some distracting moments of lipflap and lipsync that could be tightened. I think if you nailed down Tamaki to consistantly be cast as Sharpay and the host club as the chorus, that would help improve the vid's clarity
30
Feral Little Creature LaughingLiked the way you did the instrumental parts, but I feel with when the vocals kicked in the editing didn't keep up with the increased pace of the audio, but still a unique vid
31
Fighting MyselfLooks like you got a solid start, would love to see more
32
Figure Skating PunI feel the way this vid goes about showing Yuri and Victor's relationship is interesting, I feel like rather than focus on them falling in love, we see how that love and support makes figure skating easier/better, the way you flipped between the op and show footage was distracting but I still find this very sweet
33
Final Boss: The Ballad of BuuLip sync is good but 5:30 is a long time to watch the same joke play out, especially when a lot of the material hasn't aged well (the whole sex slave bit) either a shorter length or more escalation in the editing would help fight against the fatigue
34
Fucking VampiresI never had a Twilight phase (love or hate) but I adore this video, you keep up with the different parts of the video so well and do great showing Bella and Edward's relationship from a negative light. The storytelling gets a little weaker at the end with how fast the flashes of Bella preparing to kill him and leave go, but this in my pool for considering Best in Show
35
Guiding LightA very well constructed Drama vid. You keep the pacing interesting the entire video and for what I hear is a confusing movie, you communicated the familal love well, strong contender for the category
36
Heart and SoulI like the idea of exploring how Denji is mostly motivated by his desire for the women in his life, but I don't think you set up well enough how they connect to the fight scenes in the chorus. Also while I think the grayscale works, the film filter and grain effects don't add much and could probably be removed without much lost
37
Hero HopesStrong scene selection but I would have liked to seen more attention paid to the musical cues. You can get away with a lot less literal lyric sync (such as showing Deku's mom literally) as long as you keep the hopeful mood you have now
38
Hypotrochoids and EpitrochoidsKinda stupid but my kind of stupid
39
I Am The FireThe way the coughing synced at the beginning was nice, pairing makes sense but the fades to black were way too strong and tended to be too short, interrupting the flow, unless you are making a radical shift in scene, those are usually best saved for parts when the instrumentation is starting to also fade
40
I Beat the BossCongrats
41
In MemorySimple but evocative. I am not sure if I got all the details of the story but it seems as if this girl is learning to have move on from some family, the grief of leaving behind someone still alive
42
Just Move Your Robot Simple but funny
43
K-186fAs someone totally unfamilar with both sources they work well enough aesthetically, but I would have liked to see the pacing switch up more often to match the different parts of the song
44
LaikaWhile I get being very emotionally attached to lyrics, I think if the song is not in the same language that your target audience speaks, it is better to try and rely on visual storytelling to get your point across rather than subtitles, considering "Laika" is spoken in English I think you don't need to change much for ppl to get the main gist, but trying to have good flow and keep subs readable is just a very difficult task
45
Let the Games BeginI have a friend who loves this series so it was cool to see an amv for it, you do a great job of establishing their slapstick dynamic, but I feel like you could also spend more time showing off their "games" as well since it takes a while to figure out other stuff is going on beyond all the playful bullying
46
Let You DownFun to see vids lean into the music video side of amvs, I think if you leaned more into the action side of things this could be a sweet little vibe piece
47
Little FeetAmusing, I love what you did with the record scratch and got some clever lyric sync, my biggest nitpick is I would like to see more distinction between the different parts of the song, but still this vid accomplishes what it wants to do
48
MacWolfSolid parody, all the characters were consistant and made sense plus the text work was well-integrated, even if neither source particularly interested me
49
Mad to the MaxGood audio/source pairing and some nice internal sync with gun shots, but the sped up footage stands out a lot and I think you need to be careful when and where you flip to the Fury Road footage since its color pallette is so different from the rest
50
Marionettes, Eyes, & Poltergeists1:03-1:15 goes so hard and is very cool, but I think some of the overall spook factor is weakened by some of the sources chosen. Despite being horror scenes, the cutsey cartoony aesthetic of shows like SU and Centuarworld stand out. I also struggle to be scared by recognizable characters like Luffy bc outside context makes it easy to remember he is just a silly guy. Still when you get it right, you get it pretty right
51
Matthew Patrick DavisSomething about this vid unnerves me on a fundamental level but I am happy this dude has such a dedicated fan
52
Mentos the Frog SlayerDoesn't do much to actually imitate a real commerical, but it is a great way to learn about a fun and silly scene
53
Missing YouI don't know if there is a better way you could have conveyed this vid's story of the protag missing his ex, I suspect considering they're not the main couple you are working with limited footage, I think a few things that could help with execution would be that you save moments like the string snap at 0:42 for stronger beats
54
Mockingbird's HymnSolid drama entry. Very fitting song, but I think I would have liked to see more of Suzu's arc emphasized. While we see her journey pretty linearly, I think more attempts to explain why she wants to help these boys/what it means to her with her mother and all would help, with more of that weaved throughout the video, it would make the sudden return to the river again at the end a little less jarring
55
Muppet Sailor SongThis was a lot of fun, impressed how you made the muppets lipsync, really made it seem like this was an actual musical number they were performing in the movie itself.
56
NaloxoneThe way you used the datamoshing (if that is the right term) to transition between scenes as they blur together was really cool, I would have liked to see a greater sense of escalation with this vid though as we kinda start at 100% and stay there, I think it would be cool to maybe pull back a bit at the start and then like descend into technological madness
57
Never-Ending DreamThis one really got to me for some reason. While you don't have a lot of actual animation to work with, you were very great at keeping the tension high, such as the use of the photographs in the middle section, even without the story details, I was able to feel the emotions really deeply, makes me very interested in checking out this game later on
58
Nimoner? I Barely Know Her!An extremely strong sentimental vid, I haven't seen Nimona but you perfectly communicated the found family between these two. And the sword imagery plus flashbacks weaved throughout make the climax crystal clear, another great example of storytelling in this contest
59
Nuclear MobSolid action, the 'off the scale" lyric sync was a nice touch but I feel like the sync got a bit loose towards the chorus, and some of those sakuga clips could be cut more to keep closer to the music
60
On LegacySolid drama, watching this a few more times I was able to better pick up the narrative of this cycle of violence the protag slowly becomes a part of, and the older man he comes to face again after he is changed, but I think I'd still want a little context for more of their relationship
61
OriginSolid character profile, leaning towards sentimental for its category as I think the bitter is necessary for the story you want to tell. However I think some of the graphic imagery like the man's ripped face at 1:42 feels excessive and not really necessary to get the point across
62
Real Ais Realize Real LiesI wasn't sure what the point of using both the manga and the anime was until the breakdown hit me like a brick to the face in the best way. Lots of cool stuff going on here, but I feel like the choruses at 0:45 and 2:27 could be pushed just a bit more, the first repeats a lot of images we already saw in the mmv part, and the second I'd like to see more examples of how the kids are now carrying on the role of their mother
63
Romance is DeadThe first time I watched this I saw the title, realized it was life action and thought "omg is this that zombie version of Romeo and Juliet???" When Love Story started playing I cheered. This vid is simple but sweet, my only critique is during the second chorus we kinda lose focus on the romance with all the action, so it would be nice if there were ways you could weave in some flashbacks between all the zombie attacks
64
Run AwayThis tugged at my heartstrings, strong narrative, I honestly think you don't need the blurred smear transistions and could get away with simple cuts or crossfades considering the slow steady pace of the song
65
SAVE TO WINKiller action tied together by some really powerful Deku/Shigaraki parallels and hand motifs. This emotional core of hope and reaching out to one another keeps the video from getting too overwhelming and samey. My only critique is there are a few shots of Ochako that feel like filler as an outsider to MHA
66
Shenani-hamscute and beauuuutiful, vid absolutely delivers what the title offers, however I find the black flashes to be distracting, I dont know if softening them would help or if you should consider another way to sync
67
Spring AwakeningLove seeing The Oh Hellos used in a vid. It is a cute idea to use this song for a floral themed series, and I am amused that you made that damn train as menacing in this vid as it is in the show.
68
Superman to no Boken S01 OP CleanCute idea for our magical boy in blue, I think if you really want to emulate the anime OP aesthetic you need to minimize the amount of lipflap you use and don't be afraid to pick up the pace or of the audience not following all the parts
69
Takes Two To TwineAlways charmed to see modern songs with retro anime, solid editing all around but I think the emotions might hit harder if you took some time setting up what "the void" is in your video. Is it lonliness? Anxiety? Self-Loathing? Defining the specifics of Lain's angst would help tie all the different harrowing imagery together
70
The Bot Episode of SportsLol never expected to see a Battlebots fanvid. I can see you got good instincts to save the money shots for the heaviest beats, but I think you can afford to spend more time building hype with the ppl and atmosphere and save the bots further
71
The Capacity to ChangeKiller source list, classic magical girl shows definitely have enough dark imagery for a Florence song, however the pace at which you flip better the sources make it hard to follow the action, you either need to give more time for each scene to breathe or work on smoothing out your transititions further
72
The NoiseFun and unique concept! Lots of very cute and cheeky internal sync going on everywhere and do you a great job of showing all sorts of different kinds of annoying noises
73
The Storyteller's BurdenSo from what I watched of this show I kinda hated it. Thought everyone was an uncompelling asshole, but pulled back like this it is much easier to appreciate this vid's version of the narrative, however I feel the instrumental break could be pushed more
74
This is FreedomFeels like this is pretty close to the fancam side of editing which is not my wheelhouse at all. But I would to have seen this vid do more to match the fast pace of the song
75
This Video Is Sponsored By Jimmy JohnsPretty funny, good match of audio and source, the only nitpicks I have is that the anime audio right at the end is a bit distracting and one lipflap slipped past your notice at 2:01 when the blonde looks up
76
Time;Moves;OnWell-edited drama with some clever masks. Would have liked to get a bit more context, but from what I know about Stein's Gate, it does seem hard to set up specifics beyond time and angst
77
Trí ScéalNice showcase of Cartoon Saloon's work. I think you could work more on your overall flow. Like I don't think this video needs something fancier than simple hard cuts, but several transitions were distracting bc the camera would suddenly bc focused on a different part of the screen or the color pallete would be vastly different, without much to tie the two together
78
Velvet VisageWe love a hot scary lady. Audio is cut well for such a significantly shortened version. I'd love more but as is it is just solid all around
79
Wake Up, NightmareThis vid was well paced, but felt it depended on the audience to have watched the source to understand it. I understand the Monogatari series can be a lotTM to summerize/explain but there did seem to be some past friendship/crush stuff between the girls and now they are opposed for some reason, so at least establishing that relationship more could help audiences get what you're going for
80
Walking with MonstersThe pacing of this video seems kinda off, the beginning starts off very action focused then the middle slows down a lot before we go back to action at the end. I understand needing to follow the different parts of the song/provide some breathing room, but it makes the vid lose a lot of tension. Honestly it might help to dial back the beginning and use it to build context to help the middle stand out less
81
Witch SlayersSeems like this pairing could work well, but if possible I would like to see more jokes in the editing itself like the hat and the shouting lines as most of the humor comes from the audio at the moment
82
You will eat less than you desire and more than you deserve.I admire the effort to make interesting and offputting art but I can really only appreciate this on an academic level
