SupportAB 379Schultz (D), Nguyen (D), Krell (D) et alEstablishes a fund for community-based organizations supporting victims of sex trafficking, makes it a misdemeanor to loiter with the intent to purchase sex punishable by, in addition to any other punishment, a fine of $1000 (fines to fund the support portion). After contentious dealings and hostile amendments, the felony portion for 16- and 17-year-olds was restored so long as the defendant is more than three years older than the victim. Additional penalties added for applicable businesses' failure to post notices regarding trafficking and for hotels whose employees demonstrate reckless disregard for trafficking taking place in their location. Based on availability, awards funds to up to 11 district attorneys' offices to employ a vertical prosecution methodology with regard to trafficking. Signed by Governor and chaptered!Passed Assembly May 15 Passed Senate July 14 33-2 (5 not voting)

Oppose unless amendedAB 495RodriguezWith the intent of protecting immigrant children from federal deportation issues, this bill would allow nearly any adult to enroll a child in school or school medical services by means of a loosely written caregiver's authorization affidavit. According to parental rights attorneys this applies to ANY children and should be opposed or amended to specifically apply just to the intended population with safeguards in the affidavit and its acceptance. They say that, as written, the measure could be used by traffickers and others with ill intent to abduct children.Enrolled and to governorAsk the governor to veto AB 495Passed Assembly, Senate Judiciary and Human Services Comms.
