North Elementary is a neighborhood school serving 500 Pre-K through 5th grade students. North Elementary School is a diverse school made of 80% Hispanic Students, 13% Black Students, 2% white, .5% Asian/Pacific Islander, 1.5% American Indian, and 2% two or more races. 75.3% percent of students are low-income, and 58% of students speak a different language at home. 17% of our population have Individualized Education Plans and 3% of our population is homeless.

In education we see the difference between equality and equity. We want to move our students by thinking of equity in planning for our school system and with that moving to true equality.

Your School's Key Strengths

One of North's key strengths are that we have collaborative teachers. Also, North School has been lucky to offer the high interest programs like JAMS sports, ArtCore, and the Sistema Ravinia Music Program, which is completely funded by the Sistema Ravinia Program for any interested student in fourth and fifth grade.

We are in the first year of implementation of the K-5 curriculum maps. We have improved communication with families as evidenced by the 5 essentials surveys.

North will continue their goal of having all teachers have rigorous tier 1 instruction in both reading and math in order to continue to raise both overall student growth and attainment percentiles.
