INTEROPen (www.interopen.org) is an OPEN collaboration of individuals, industry, standards organisations and health and care providers, who have agreed to work together to accelerate the development of open standards for interoperability in the health and social care sector.

INTEROPen has been leading on development and curation of the Care Connect FHIR profiles. CareConnect was created by the INTEROPen community as a brand to describe:

A library of profiles (resources and interaction patterns) of the HL7® FHIR® standard that implementers can adopt to simplify integration and interoperability within UK Health and Social Care.

All of the CareConnect profiles created till September 2017 were based on the FHIR Standard in Trial Use 2 (STU2) resources. A decision was made by the INTEROPen FHIR Curation team that there should be a move to the STU3 FHIR version given that it was the next iteration of FHIR, and that no STU2 implementations of CareConnect had yet occurred in the NHS.

An INTEROPen FHIR curation workshop held on 10th November 2017, attended by key subject matter experts, led to the following recommend methodology proposal to map clinical [PRSB] information models to CareConnect FHIR STU3 profiles:
