Chinese Open Science Network (COSN):Building an Open Science community in a developing country
articlen/a
Open Science is becoming a mainstream scientific ideology in psychology and related fields. However, researchers, especially early career researchers (ECRs) in developing countries, are facing significant hurdles in engaging in Open Science and moving it forward. In China, various societal and cultural factors discourage ECRs from participating in Open Science, such as the lack of dedicated communication channels and the norm of modesty. To make the voice of Open Science heard by Chinese-speaking ECRs and scholars at large, the Chinese Open Science Network (COSN) was initiated in 2016. With its core values being grassroots-oriented, diversity, and inclusivity, COSN has grown from a small Open Science interest group to a recognized network both in the Chinese-speaking research community and the international Open Science community. So far, COSN has organized three in-person workshops, 12 tutorials, 48 talks, 55 journal club sessions, and translated 15 Open Science-related articles and blogs from English to Chinese. Currently, the main social media account of COSN, i.e., the official WeChat account, has more than 23,000 subscribers, and more than 1,000 researchers/students actively participate in the discussions on Open Science. In this article, we share our experience in building such a network to encourage ECRs in developing countries to start their own Open Science initiatives and engage in the global Open Science movement. We foresee great collaborative efforts of COSN together with all other local and international networks to further accelerate the Open Science movement.

Think. Check. Attend.guidelinen/a
Think. Check. Attend. is an initiative that aims to guide and assist researchers and scholars to judge the legitimacy and academic credentials of conferences in order to help them decide whether to or not attend the same. Nowadays, the scholarly community faces an increasing number of invitations to present at or attend conferences. Some of these are respectable, academic events, while others are misleading, exaggerated or even fake. Think. Check. Attend. provides guidelines that help researchers to differentiate between an authentic conference and the one they should avoid. In this initiative, we help scholars to recognise the characteristics of a trusted conference to attend and submit their abstracts through a number of steps and a check list. Simply follow these steps and you will rest assured that you attend only the most appropriate conferences.

Mutual Learning Exercise on Citizen Science Initiatives- Policy and Practice
capacity buildingn/a
An increasing number of citizen science projects and initiatives are being implemented across Europe. They mostly taking place at local or national level, but some are co-ordinated internationally. This rapidly emerging mode of research and innovation shows a big potential to achieve greater societal impact and increase trust in science by leveraging collective societal capabilities, enlarging the scope of the R&I and increasing relevance, responsiveness and transparency. However, existing national and regional policies to support them are still at an early stage of development in many countries. Europe would benefit from a greater attention towards the promotion of citizen science within Member States and regions, and from a greater cooperation and shared approaches across the European Research Area. // The MLE aims to facilitate the exchange of information, experiences and lessons learned, as well as to support and scale up citizen science through identifying the good practices, policies and programmes of the various approaches at local, regional and national level, towards supporting and scaling up citizen science. Another objective is to identify citizen science campaigns that have high potential to be implemented in a collaborative way across the European Research Area.

ALBA Declaration on Equity and Inclusion
guidelinen/a
Members of underrepresented groups face persistent barriers to equitable representation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), particularly at advanced stages. Although the historical basis for and manifestations of underrepresentation vary by group, discipline, and region, there are striking commonalities in the end result – an apparent ‘leaky pipeline’ that drains the talent pool. The cost of this loss of talent is high – for individuals, for research, and for society as a whole. // ALBA is a network of brain scientists committed to fostering fair & diverse scientific communities. We have drafted this document as a resource for concrete, positive, evidence-based actions that individuals and organizations at any level can take to promote equity & inclusivity. We focus specifically on two contributing factors to perpetual underrepresentation in STEM: implicit bias & workplace culture. We believe that adopting the actions below will benefit all members of the research community and the scientific enterprise itself. // We recognize that there are many individuals & organizations who share these goals. We invite you to indicate your support by signing this Declaration.

OA Switchboardcapacity buildingn/a
Open Access (OA) output is growing year-on-year and there is widespread belief that research will function better if results are made openly available to the community. The OA Switchboard contributes to the solution as a neutral, independent intermediary, providing shared infrastructure, standards and back office services for funders, institutions and publishers. It is a tool that can be called when needed, or integrated in stakeholders’ own systems and workflows to achieve automation and scalability. Managing the increasingly complex network of agreements between publishers and institutions, along with the rise in number of policies associated with Open Access publications by academic institutions and funders poses serious implementation challenges:

A nanopublication is a tiny snippet of information encoded in a way that computers can understand. This information can be about anything, for example, a relation between a gene and a disease, an opinion, or an assessment of another nanopublication. Nanopublications are fully expressed in a formal and machine-interpretable way. For more, see nanopub.net.
