At Ease 40k League Overview and Calendar
2
Preamble
3
Thank you very much for your interest in the At Ease 40k League! Below are the some more of the pertinent details however before you get too far down, we believe it is important to understand the objective of the league and some rationale as to why it is laid out the way it is.

Our goal is for you, the player, to engage in 5 really fun and quality matches against your peers. Not just Warhammer players, but players of near equal ability and ambition as you. The pod system that is mentioned throughout this document is intended to facilitate that goal. By continually participating in this league over a period of time, you can objectively measure how well you have performed on the tabletop. This can be based not only on your ranking within any single league period, but also on how you have climbed the theoretical pod "ladder" over a number leagues.

Now even if climbing said "ladder" to the top group of pods is not a personal goal you had set out upon, the system is still designed to match equally skilled players against one another. Blowing out (or getting blown out) of a game just isn't something that we are looking to see week-in/week-out. This is especially true given the amount of time it takes out of our busy schedules to meet up and play a 2-4 hour game of toy soldiers with someone. We want games to be fun AND competitive!

Additionally, twice a year (see schedule for exact dates), there will be a single elimination tournament of (up to) 24 players. These "Finals" are designed to give players who would like to test their mettle and further gauge how far they have come in a single elimination format.

All in all, there are a number of ways to play with us here in San Diego. We look forward to having you!

TLDR - Trust us, you are going to have fun!

WTF is a Spring Final?
32
The Final is intended to give the opportunity for players across a wide variety of pods to compete against one another in a single elimination format with a cap of 24 total players.

Players who have participated in 2 of the past 3 most recently completed leagues may be eligible for the Final. Players from the most recently completed league who would find themselves in pods 1-3 (after promotions and demotions are considered) will receive their invites first. If there remaining spots to be filled, invites will be extended to players who perhaps sat out the most recently completed league but would still qualify as they played in 2 of the previous 3 leagues and would find themselves in pods 1, 2 or 3. If that process still does not fill the quota of 24 players, invites will be extended to players below pod 3 per the discretion of the league organizers.

Each round of games are to be completed in 10 days. Games not scheduled/played in time will be evaluated by league organizers to see if a concerted effort was made by one party or the other to schedule the game. Basically, try to play your games. Please consider if you will be able to get your games done on time before accepting an invite to the Final.

Given that this is a single elimination style event, we are running it concurrently with our standard league pods (you will notice this on the calendar). If you are performing well, you may have to pack in a few more games over the course of 8-9 weeks, however if you lose early, then you still have the pod matches to play in while the Final plays itself out.

Lastly, there is NO ENTRY FEE for the final. And YES there will be prizes associated with the event. So if you get an invite (and you can finish your games in time) there is literally no reason not to take part!
33
Mission Type / Style?Mission type may vary from league to league, however as it stands right now, ITC missions are the expected format unless explicitly called out by the league organizers. This notification would happen far in advance to the league being under way.

Is my list or faction locked for the duration of the league?Primary Faction is required to remain the same for any one player during the course of any single, 5 game season. Changes to your list are permitted however as you go from game to game, again as long as your primary faction remains constant.

How do I determine my primary faction?Your faction is determined as follows: Find the the most specific Faction Keyword (which is typically the last Faction Keyword listed on each unit's’ datasheet) shared by every model in the detachment with the most points in it in your army. Consult column B in the chart listed below. Your faction is the corresponding ITC Faction Keyword in column C.

For example: You have 3 detachments in your army. The 1st is 400 points, the 2nd is 1,000 points and the 3rd is 600 points. The largest detachment is the 2nd. The most specific Faction Keyword shared by all models in that detachment is Ultramarines. Your ITC Faction for your army is Adeptus Astartes and your ITC points will be awarded to that faction.

How do I schedule my games?Players will be expected to play 5 of the 7 players accompanying them in their assigned pod. The games may be played in any order and at any time during the 8 week period. At a minimum, players are expected to use Facebook Messenger in an effort to schedule games. If players are unable to use Facebook Messenger, alternative ways to communicate with you, the player, must be furnished (IE, Phone number and Email).League Organizers and Admins

What if one of my opponents drops or has gone silent? If you are having trouble scheduling a game against one (or even two) of your oppoenents, you need to schedule "ringer" games to ensure you get in your 5 games. "Ringer" games are to be played against the players in your pod that are NOT on your pre-set schedule of 5 opponents. Ringer games against opponents outside of your pod will not award points for either player.FacebookKeith BerryFacebookFacebook

May I use proxies? For games played in Pods 1-3: The only proxies that are permitted are weapon and wargear swaps (IE, a plasma pistol is played as a bolt pistol). Otherwise, models must be "What you see is what you get." In other words... do not show up with a regular dreadnought and plan to play that model as a Leviathan dreadnought. They are not the same model.

For games played in Pods 4 or lower: Proxies are permitted (models, weapon swaps, etc). That said, if you are intending on using a significant number of proxies (5+ models), it is expected that you make your opponent aware that you are planning to do so and in what capacity well before you show up to play your match.

What is the policy on using or requesting a Chess Clock? For games played in Pods 1-3 AND Finals' Matches: If even one of the two players in a given matchup requests to use a chess clock, then that match must use a chess clock during play. This request must be made apparent to the opposing player 24 hours in advance of the match taking place (IE, you cannot show up to the table, greet your opponent and request to use a clock on the spot. Lead notice must be given). Unless otherwise agreed upon, the default time afforded to each player during a clocked match is 2 hours each (so a total of a 4 hours between both players).

For games played in Pods 4 or lower: Unlike the rules listed above, BOTH players must agree to the use of a chess clock for games below Pod 3. If both players agree to use a clock, the default time afforded to each player will be 2 hours each (so a total of a 4 hours between both players).

Is there a Code of Conduct? Why YES there is! In this document, you will find a quite a bit of information as to how we expect players to conduct themselves during play within our league. Of the many issues covered in said document, we would like to explicitly call out the revisions as to how yellow and red cards are issued to participants for varying offenses. This is new to our group as of 10/15/19 so please take the time to familiarize yourself with the content.
