Notes — data source & valid ranges
55
• Data source: every table value is generated directly from the IAPWS-IF97 formulation (iapws v1.5 Python reference implementation of the international standard). The critical-point row uses published IF97 critical values.
56
• Saturation (Modes A–C): 0.01 – 373.95 °C / 0.6117 – 22064 kPa. Grid: every 5 °C to 100 °C, every 10 °C above. Linear interpolation, typically within 0.1% for T-lookups.
57
• Superheated (Mode D): P = 10 – 20000 kPa, T = Tsat(P) – 600 °C, on a 25 °C × 19-pressure grid. h and u use bilinear interpolation; v interpolates linearly in 1/P and s linearly in ln(P) between pressure rows (matching their physical behavior, much more accurate than plain bilinear). Queries within one grid step of the saturation line are rejected rather than risking a bad interpolation — use the saturation modes there.
58
• Note on 100 °C: under ITS-90 / IF97, Psat(100 °C) = 101.42 kPa and Tsat(101.325 kPa) = 99.61 °C — the “100 °C = 1 atm” pairing is the older temperature scale. All pressures are absolute.
