12/16Rev. IleneJohn Falter"The Wheel of the Year" John Falter is a graduate student at Western Carolina University in the field of Rhetoric. His academic background spans Classics, Religious Studies, and many other disciplines. A colleague and friend of Rev. Ilene's from her undergraduate years at the New College of Florida, John is a native Floridian now living in Asheville. His sermon will focus on paganism, witchcraft, and the nature-based religions, and the wisdom they impart to us as the seasons change and the wheel of the year turns leading up to the winter solstice. Rev. Ilene will co-officiate this special service as we reflect together on the impending return of the light that the solstice brings.Theme: HopeChoirGathering Song (for the month) 225 O Come O Come Emmanuel

12/23Gypsy RichardsonJean Rowe"Why We Ring Bells at Christmas" The Chinese called bells “singing stones,” and Egyptians, Jews and Greeks rang them for their feasts and ceremonies. For Christians, bells became heralds calling believers to worship. In the Middle Ages, bells were sources of inspiration announcing Jesus’ redemption of the world. Upon hearing the chimes, believers were to respond with proper reverence.
