Interreg Euro-MEDRECIRCLE MEDSupporting the implementation of blue and circular tourism in the Mediterraneanhttps://recirclemed.interreg-euro-med.eu/University of ThessalyGreeceInnovative tourism productsGiverThe Blueprint is a tool for tourism destinations to create their own "Blue Action Plans for Circular Tourism", that balance the needs of visitors, residents, businesses, and nature. Instead of one-size-fits-all rules, the Blueprint lets each territory adapt its plan to fit its unique challenges and opportunities. It serves as a practical guide and adaptable toolkit, helping territories set tailored goals and transition toward sustainable, circular, and blue tourism models. By fostering the exchange of experiences across countries with different governance systems, the Blueprint creates a shared framework for addressing common challenges. This collaborative approach adds value by strengthening regional coherence and supporting the adoption of innovative circular and blue economy practices in tourism. The Blueprint’s outcomes directly feed into the development of the Blue Action Plans, helping destinations to:
-Address weaknesses and identify new opportunities through evidence-based analysis.
-Introduce improved measures that support the shift toward circular and blue tourism systems.

Interreg Marittimo IT-FR MaritimeQM EXPORTQuality Made Export della Blu e green Economyhttps://interreg-marittimo.eu/web/qm-exportCOOPERATIVA ITINERA PROGETTI E RICERCHE-IMPRESA SOCIALEItalyInnovative tourism productsGiverThe good practice developed by QM Export is an accompanying model that starts from the identification of each enterprise’s core identity, authentic value and capacity to express sustainability, quality and a strong connection with its territory. The project focuses on micro, small and medium-sized enterprises of the blue and green economy that produce high-quality products and services, often based on short supply chains, local know-how, craftsmanship, culture, tourism, wellbeing and the Mediterranean lifestyle. These enterprises do not simply offer products or services: they represent the places they come from, the communities that live there, their traditions, landscapes, skills and social relations. QM Export recognises and enhances this identity-based heritage, transforming it into a factor of competitiveness and international positioning. The selected enterprises are brought together under the shared Quality Made brand — www.qualitymade.eu — as a common tool for recognition, reputation and storytelling. Through the brand, they are presented not as isolated businesses, but as part of a cross-border cluster based on quality, sustainability, authenticity and territorial identity. The pathway includes assessment, capacity building, gradual internationalisation strategies, digital and innovative tools, technical support from specialised partners, and direct exchanges with market experts, Chambers of Commerce and international stakeholders. The work carried out towards the United States and Canadian markets generated strong interest, engagement, new relations and increased visibility. The added value lies in considering internationalisation not as a single event, but as a collective, gradual and supported process, providing small enterprises with tools to face complex overseas markets while making their identity their main competitive asset.Laura Giuliano; lgiuliano@itinera.info; +39.3470310564 (Capofila-Project manager-Coop.Itinera)

Interreg Euro-MEDPort-CREWPort-City Regions To Wave Med Cruise Destinations As Smart, Sustainable And Striking Eco-Tourism Systemshttps://portcrew.interreg-euro-med.eu/Fundación ValenciaportSpainInnovative tourism productsGiverWithin the framework of the PortCrew project, Valencia aims to contribute to the Valenciaport cruise ’s sustainability strategy by supporting the decongestion and diversification of shore excursion offers at destination level, while also reinforcing social sustainability. To this end, the project works closely with the destination to promote the development of new excursions in lesser-visited areas of the province that nevertheless offer strong tourism potential. These experiences are designed to be unique, authentic and adapted to the needs and expectations of new generations of cruise passengers, including Gen Z travellers, families with children and visitors with accessibility requirements. In doing so, the initiative seeks to generate economic value for the destination while helping to preserve residents’ quality of life.
To implement these new experiences, PortCrew has designed a collaborative methodology involving key public and private stakeholders. This approach includes training, advisory support and tailored product development, with the aim of building a new range of shore excursions outside the most popular tourist areas of Valencia province. The resulting experiences will ultimately be tested through a familiarization trip addressed to cruise lines and tour operators, supporting their future promotion and integration into the cruise tourism offer.

Interreg Ελλάδα-ΚύπροςDEEP CONNECTIONSDiving parks in Crete and CyprusNot available yetHeraklion Chamber of CommerceGreeceInnovative tourism productsGiverΤhe good practice and solution to be shared concerns the creation, licensing, operation, and sustainable management of a diving park.

The organisation has established and operates a diving park that was developed through the CLLD LEADER Heraklion programme and has been recognised as a good practice by the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. Based on this experience, it can offer significant practical know-how on the full process of developing a diving park, from planning and organisation to licensing, operation, management, and long-term sustainability.

The organisation can share expertise on the administrative, technical, environmental, and operational requirements needed for the successful establishment of diving parks. This includes knowledge on stakeholder coordination, cooperation with local authorities, regulatory procedures, safety requirements, visitor management, and the practical challenges involved in transforming a marine area into a structured and attractive diving destination.

A key element of the good practice is also the creation of an information and awareness centre focused on the marine environment and diving activities. Through this centre, the organisation can provide knowledge on how to inform visitors, divers, schools, local communities, and tourism stakeholders about marine biodiversity, environmental protection, responsible diving, and the value of sustainable use of marine resources.

In addition, the organisation has expertise in the monitoring of environmental indicators within diving parks, including methods for observing and assessing the condition of the marine environment, biodiversity, habitat quality, and the impact of diving-related activities. This knowledge can support evidence-based management and ensure that diving tourism develops in a way that protects marine ecosystems.

Finally, the organisation can contribute valuable experience in the development of sustainable tourism models centred on diving. This includes linking diving activities with environmental education, local economic development, responsible tourism, marine conservation, and destination branding. The good practice demonstrates how diving parks can become tools for sustainable coastal development, diversification of the tourism offer, protection of the marine environment, and creation of new opportunities for local communities.

Interreg Ελλάδα-ΚύπροςMETAL PLACES IIMETAL PLACES II: Following the traces of the past along the paths of the Eastern Mediterraneanhttps://metalplaces.eu/NATIONAL CENTRE FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH (NCSR), "DEMOKRITOS"GreeceInnovative tourism productsTakerMETAL PLACES II is interested in participating as a Taker in order to acquire practical knowledge, transferable methodologies and tested good practices for the development of innovative cultural tourism products based on geo-cultural heritage.
The project seeks to learn from Givers with experience in the design of thematic cultural routes, participatory heritage interpretation, place-based storytelling, digital visitor experiences and accessible cultural tourism. Particular interest is placed on solutions that combine physical heritage routes with digital tools such as AR/VR applications, 360° virtual tours, 3D documentation and interactive interpretation content.
A key interest of METAL PLACES II is also to explore how scientific knowledge, field documentation and analytical results (including geological, archaeological and material analyses) can be translated into simple, attractive and meaningful narratives for non-specialist audiences. The project is particularly interested in good practices that use visualisation, storytelling, digital interpretation, exhibitions and educational activities to make complex scientific information understandable and relevant to visitors, local communities and younger audiences.
This knowledge is directly relevant to METAL PLACES II, which aims to transform dispersed geo-cultural heritage in Greece and Cyprus, including ancient mining sites, metallurgical remains, cultural landscapes, into coherent, engaging and accessible visitor experiences.
The project is especially interested in learning how other Mediterranean initiatives have addressed common challenges such as the interpretation of cultural landscapes, the accessibility of remote or difficult-to-access heritage sites, the involvement of local communities, and the long-term sustainability of digital and physical tourism products.
The knowledge gained through the Peer Learning Visit could be applied to the project’s thematic routes, AR/VR and 360° applications, exhibitions, educational activities and wider capitalisation strategy. It would also support the transfer and adaptation of successful Mediterranean practices to the specific context of mining and metallurgical heritage in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Interreg Marittimo IT-FR MaritimeFESTAFesta Enogastronomia Sostenibilità Turismo Artigianato
Festival, Food and Wine, Sustainability, Tourism, Craftsmanship
https://interreg-marittimo.eu/it/web/festaCOOPERATIVA ITINERA PROGETTI E RICERCHE-IMPRESA SOCIALEItalySocial, inclusive, and accessible tourismGiverThe good practice developed by FESTA consists in the creation of an integrated and sustainable tourism system based on the identity-based festivals of the Mediterranean: fairs, patron saint festivals, food and wine, craft and community events, often located in villages and minor destinations. The project transformed isolated local events into a cross-border network of 19 festivals, connected to each other by a common strategy, by shared standards of environmental, social and identity-based quality, and by a unified narrative of the territories. The solution combines participatory analysis, digital tools, training and the construction of a tourism product. Through a shared SWOT analysis, a FESTA Format for self-assessment, training modules and personalised reports, the organisers were supported in reading their own festival as a “product of the territory”, capable of generating cultural, social and economic value. The digital platform and mobile app collect festivals, temporary events, points of interest and sustainable last-mile mobility solutions, encouraging the discovery of the territories and the stay of visitors beyond the single day of the event. The good practice also gave life to the “Journey among the Identity-based and Sustainable Festivals of the Mediterranean”, an organised tourism product with short and long itineraries, multilingual narrative contents, podcasts, videos, photographs and interviews with local communities. The model enhances authenticity, slowness, accessibility, sustainability and direct relationship with citizens, producers, artisans and tourism operators. The solution is transferable because it proposes a replicable method in other Mediterranean territories: shared analysis, improvement strategy, network among events, digital platform, common governance and collective brand. Its sustainability is strengthened by the Operational Protocol signed by the festivals, by the user manuals, by the self-updating tools and by the reusable training materials. Important challenges remain open, such as the involvement of young people and the strengthening of mobility in inland areas, but FESTA demonstrates that a local fair can become the starting point of a journey and that minor villages can return to the centre of a conscious, sustainable and shared tourism offer.Laura Giuliano; lgiuliano@itinera.info; +39.3470310564 (Partner-Project manager-Coop.Itinera)

Interreg Ελλάδα-ΚύπροςSPORTS4ALLSports tourism for allhttps://greece-cyprus.eu/project/sports4all/Region of CreteGreeceSocial, inclusive, and accessible tourismGiverThe Region of Crete can share good practice and expertise on the use of modern technologies to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in tourism.

More specifically, the Region of Crete will contribute knowledge on the development and application of virtual reality solutions for accessible tourism. Through the creation and installation of VR applications at the accessible sports centre, people with mobility and sensory disabilities will have the opportunity to experience tourist attractions that are currently difficult or impossible to access physically.

This solution will enable users to virtually visit important natural and cultural sites, such as the Samaria Gorge, and other non-accessible destinations in Crete. In this way, the good practice combines technology, accessibility, tourism, and social inclusion, offering people with disabilities a more equal opportunity to discover and enjoy the island’s heritage.

The Region of Crete can also share expertise on how public authorities can support inclusive tourism through innovation, digital tools, cross-sector cooperation, and user-centred design. The VR applications can serve as a practical model for making inaccessible tourism experiences more available to people with different types of disabilities, while also raising awareness among tourism stakeholders about the importance of accessibility and equal participation.

Overall, the good practice to be shared concerns the use of immersive technologies as a tool for inclusive and accessible tourism, helping to remove barriers, enhance participation, and create new tourism experiences for people with disabilities.

In Situ stems from the need to stimulate social and cultural growth within communities living in deprived neighbourhoods through initiatives undertaken in partnership with local residents, as part of a process of listening and dialogue that regards art as the primary tool for shaping visions of the future.
This is a complex process that requires the involvement of the scientific, institutional and business communities, as well as active citizens. A process which, through formal and informal training programmes, will be able to instil pride and confidence in disadvantaged groups.
The regeneration of public spaces, the revitalisation of existing facilities, training, living labs, communication, the development of tourism offerings and promotion serve as working tools for an integrated approach.

This includes strategic planning, financial sustainability, infrastructure maintenance, service quality, energy efficiency, digital management systems, and the effective use of sports facilities by athletes, local communities, visitors, and people with disabilities.

A particular area of interest is the development of modern, inclusive, and multifunctional sports centres that can accommodate different sports, rehabilitation activities, training programmes, events, and community-based initiatives. The organisation seeks practical knowledge on sustainable business models, public-private cooperation, staff development, safety procedures, accessibility, and the long-term operational planning of such facilities.

The organisation is also looking for expertise and good practices in the development of specialised forms of tourism, particularly sports tourism, as well as health, rehabilitation, wellness, and accessible tourism. This includes the design of integrated tourism products and services that combine sports activities, physical rehabilitation, healthcare support, wellbeing, accommodation, recreation, and cultural experiences.

Of particular interest are successful approaches to destination development, tourism marketing, service coordination, quality assurance, and cooperation between sports organisations, healthcare and rehabilitation providers, tourism businesses, local authorities, and community stakeholders. The organisation aims to learn how specialised tourism can contribute to local economic development, extend the tourism season, attract new visitor groups, create employment opportunities, and support social inclusion.

Through European Territorial Cooperation programmes, the organisation seeks partners that can provide practical experience, transferable methodologies, training opportunities, study visits, and tested models that could be adapted to the local context. The ultimate objective is to strengthen the organisation’s capacity to develop sustainable sports infrastructure and innovative, inclusive tourism services that respond to the needs of athletes, visitors, people with disabilities, and the wider community.

The visit is designed to facilitate the transfer of practical knowledge, innovative solutions and policy approaches for addressing water scarcity in vulnerable Mediterranean coastal, rural and island destinations. The programme combines technical training, field-based learning and networking opportunities, offering participants direct access to the AQUAMAN “Blue Horizons” Transferable Solutions Catalogue. Through a dedicated masterclass led by ELA FPA and AQUAMAN technical partners, participants will gain insight into tested water-saving technologies, circular water management practices and governance models developed throughout the project. The session will provide practical guidance on adapting these solutions to local realities and translating them into policy recommendations and strategic planning instruments. Particular attention will be given to capitalization opportunities between Interreg Euro-MED and other Interreg Programmes such as NEXT MED and Italy-Croatia.The visit also may highlight the importance of cultural heritage as a source of inspiration for sustainable water management. Participants will take part in a technical walking itinerary through the UNESCO World Heritage neighbourhood of Albaicín, exploring Granada’s historic network of public aljibes (cisterns). This experience demonstrates how traditional water storage systems can be preserved, interpreted and integrated into sustainable tourism strategies while maintaining their social and cultural value. A second field visit will showcase an innovative tourism facility located along the Routes of El legado andalusí in the province of Granada. Operating entirely off-grid and independent from municipal water networks, the accommodation employs advanced atmospheric water generation technology, rainwater harvesting systems, water purification processes and closed-loop wastewater treatment solutions. The site offers a practical demonstration of how tourism businesses can achieve high levels of water self-sufficiency and environmental sustainability. By combining heritage-based knowledge, technological innovation and policy transfer, the Peer Learning Visit provides participants with a replicable framework for improving water resilience, promoting circular water use and supporting sustainable tourism development across Mediterranean regions affected by climate change and increasing water scarcity.Julia Saiz-Pardo; jsp@legadoandalusi.es / Juan Jesús Ruiz; juanjesus@legadoandalusi.es. Interreg Euro-MEDPort-CREWPort-City Regions To Wave Med Cruise Destinations As Smart, Sustainable And Striking Eco-Tourism Systemshttps://portcrew.interreg-euro-med.eu/Hellenic Institute of Transport (CERTH/HIT)GreeceTourism and green transitionGiverThe Thessaloniki Tourism Card (TTC) is an integrated tool that combines tourism information with sustainable mobility services. The TTC is further expanded within the framework of the MED project “Port Crew”, where Thessaloniki served as a pilot case. This extension specifically targeted cruise visitors, a group that typically generates high, time-concentrated demand in the city centre. The focus shifted toward enabling these visitors to explore the city in a sustainable and time-efficient manner, reducing reliance on conventional high-impact modes such as tour buses. Central to this extension is a methodology for generating optimal walking and cycling routes to monuments and eco-attractions. Given the proximity of most attractions, the TTC promotes active mobility by applying walkability and bikeability criteria, including safety, comfort, infrastructure quality, traffic conditions, and environmental attractiveness. The system proposes routes that prioritize not only efficiency but also the overall quality of the travel experience.
The TTC aims to support multimodal mobility, encouraging the combined use of walking, cycling, and public transport. In doing so, it acts as both an information platform and a behavioral change tool, aligning tourism mobility with sustainable urban mobility principles.
