| AUP - Falcon Cares | Student Support Supervisor, Falcon Cares | The Student Support Supervisor would help advance our current services to students by increase our team's capacity. Please note - the original title of this classified hiring request was titled as a supervisor for basic needs and the Welcome Center. In preparation for this review process and in light of changing needs, the position is now listed as solely Falcon Cares (basic needs). For the additional prioritization process questions listed in this request below, the answers can also be found on this Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fjsyY1P11vLQ51UB4--roWB-WX1v01YJK5f0J03PmUg/edit?usp=sharing | Active | 12/11/2024 | Staffing (FT Faculty / Classified / Administrator / Temp Classified/ Other Staffing) | No | 1 | LRSA 2025-26 Salary Range 20V, $80,994 - $102,483 | The Student Support Supervisor would align Folsom Lake College with our fellow Los Rios college and increase our services capacities within basic needs. The supervisor can advance our community partnerships to work hand-in-hand to assist students experience challenges (ex. broaden our housing assistance by connect with local agencies). | Program Growth | Equity Need; Student Success Need | Permanent Classified | Yes: Classified hiring questions below completed | Student Support Supervisor, LRSA 2025-26 Salary Range 20V | 12 | Full-Time | College Goals GOAL 1: Identify, address and eliminate barriers and equity gaps among different student populations to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and social justice. - Ensure and support equitable access: The Falcon Cares program provides services that meet the needs of our most vulnerable students experiencing housing and food insecurity. Additionally, we provide technology access through hotspots and laptops, all of which ties directly to ensuring equitable access to education. GOAL 2: Create a welcoming campus culture that reflects and serves our community. - We prioritize creating an environment that makes seeking help as destigmatized as possible. For example, our pop-up pantries are open to all students and community members to remove the connotation that only the most vulnerable students are using the services but that everyone has access. - Additionally, we have built community partnerships with Twin Lakes and the Sacramento Food Bank to help meet our students’ needs. We also partner with Bimbo Bakery for free baked good items. Pacific Dining is another major partner for Falcon Cares through our Lunch Token program. | In 2021-2022, AB 132 requires California community colleges to have 1) a one-stop basic needs center and 2) a dedicated basic needs coordinator who “shall be a dedicated position solely focused on addressing the basic needs of students and meet qualifications such as experience providing services to high-need and diverse populations.” This is not the case at FLC, because our current basic needs coordinator is also responsible for our Welcome Center and Falcon Cares. Hiring a Student Support Supervisor for Falcon Cares would make FLC in compliance with State’s requirements to support our students’ basic needs and align us with our sister colleges, who have assigned the responsibilities of the basic needs coordinator to supervisors or directors (not specialists). This will also allow our current basic needs specialist to take on the responsibilities of providing dedicated case management support for students experiencing housing insecurities - providing high touch support to our most vulnerable students and aligning our practices with AB 132 and all of our sister colleges. | In the first 4 years of the Falcon Cares Program, we have seen tremendous growth, development, and achievements. - First college in Los Rios to have weekly pop-up pantries - open to both students and the community. CRC and SCC now also offer weekly pop-up pantries. - First college in Los Rios to have a lunch voucher program in partnership with Pacific Dining. SCC is now exploring the option. - First college in Los Rios to offer a Turkey Dinner program (for the holidays) for families. CRC and SCC followed our example last year. - Only college in Los Rios to offer transportation support (gas cards) - Only college in Los Rios that provides Walmart cards of other necessities not found in our pantry. From 2022-23 to 2023-2024, we saw our unduplicated served students increase from 262 to 684. This includes all programs from emergency housing stays, pantry visits, Walmart cards, gas cards, and technology support (hotspots/computers). This does not account for multiple visits or uses of services (example, how often students visit the pantry or receive gas cards). The Lunch Token program is not reflected in these numbers because it was launched in Fall 2024. Since then, we have served 569 students during the 2024-25 academic year for the Lunch Token program alone. In addition, the turkey dinner program is also not reflected in the service numbers above. Last year, we served 125 families and are aiming for 175 families this year. | The State requires the California community colleges to have a one-stop basic needs space for all services aimed at supporting students with housing, food, and basic resource insecurities. Our current space resides in a breakroom and previous office spaces located behind the Welcome Center. Our aim is to have dedicated space for the Falcon Cares program separate from our Welcome Center. We need space that is more accessible for food handling, storage, and delivery as well as space that can display/store other resources such as our clothing closet in a way that is more friendly and dignified than shelves in a storage room. The other three sister colleges have all either received a brand new space (SCC) or received dedicated space (ARC, CRC) within the last three years. FLC is the only college that combines our Falcon Cares/basic needs program with other program space. | 1st Priority
| AUP - General Counseling | Career and Transfer Center Clerk II/or III Position | Requesting approval to establish a permanent full-time Career and Transfer Center Clerk II/III position to provide consistent frontline support, enhance student services, and meet the growing demand for career and transfer programming at Folsom Lake College. Benefits of a Permanent Classified Position * Increased Operational Efficiency * Reduces the need for repeated onboarding and training associated with temporary staffing models. * Sustainability of Services * Ensures the Career and Transfer Center can maintain high-quality services, consistently coordinate programming, and effectively respond to increasing student demand. A permanent classified position provides the stability and expertise necessary for the long-term success of the Career and Transfer Center and the students it serves. | Active | 10/31/2025 | Staffing (FT Faculty / Classified / Administrator / Temp Classified/ Other Staffing) | Yes | 1 | Proposal for a Permanent Career and Transfer Center Clerk II/III Position Folsom Lake College Introduction The Career and Transfer Center (CTC) at Folsom Lake College is a vital resource for students seeking career exploration, transfer planning, university connections, career readiness, workshops, campus resources, and comprehensive student success services. As student demand for career and transfer support grows, stable and consistent frontline staffing is increasingly necessary. Currently, the CTC relies heavily on temporary staff and student workers to manage daily operations, address student inquiries, and handle appointment check-ins. While these roles provide valuable assistance and create student employment opportunities, they fall short in delivering the continuity, consistent coverage, and sustainability needed for high-quality student service. This proposal recommends establishing a permanent, full-time classified Career and Transfer Center Clerk II or III position to meet the operational and service needs of the CTC. Rationale and Need As usage of the Career and Transfer Center increases, consistent frontline support is essential to ensure students receive prompt, accurate, and welcoming assistance. Current staffing challenges include: * Reliance on temporary staff, short-term hourly employees, and student help * Inconsistent schedules and staff availability * High turnover and frequent retraining * Limited service continuity and institutional knowledge * Gaps in coverage, especially during peak times * Student employees prioritizing academics over work shifts, reducing availability * Existing full-time staff diverted from core responsibilities to manage front-desk coverage Temporary staffing models also create uncertainty for long-term planning and consistent service delivery. The absence of a dedicated permanent classified staff member impacts both operational efficiency and the quality of student support. A permanent classified Clerk II or III would provide the continuity, stability, and institutional knowledge required to: * Ensure reliable daily student support * Maintain consistent operational coverage * Support and enhance the effectiveness of core Career and Transfer Center services * Allow current full-time staff to focus on specialized transfer and career initiatives Conclusion Establishing a permanent Career and Transfer Center Clerk II or III position is essential for sustaining high-quality, student-centered service, supporting operational efficiency, and meeting the evolving needs of Folsom Lake College students. | Program Growth | Equity Need | Permanent Classified | Proposed Position: Career and Transfer Center Clerk II/III Position Title: Career and Transfer Center Clerk II/III Position Type: Permanent Classified Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Potential Funding Sources: * Career Services Counseling allocation * Career Education funding * Student services support funding * Multiple contributing sources supporting Career and Transfer initiatives Primary Responsibilities: * Student-Facing Support * Respond to in-person, phone, and email inquiries * Greet and assist students accessing Career and Transfer services * Provide general information on transfer, career services, workshops, and campus resources * Schedule appointments and workshops * Assist students with navigation and referrals to appropriate services * Operational Support * Support daily Career and Transfer Center operations * Assist with workshop logistics and event coordination * Maintain student sign-in systems and data tracking * Support communication and outreach efforts * Coordinate office coverage and front desk operations * Assist with marketing materials and student communication * Programmatic Support * Support transfer events, college fairs, and career fairs * Assist with employer and university representative visits * Maintain resource materials and informational displays * Support internship and career programming initiatives This position would serve as the primary frontline support for the Career and Transfer Center, enhancing both operational efficiency and student service delivery. | 12 | Full-Time | Current Challenges Without Permanent Staffing Without a permanent classified position, the Career and Transfer Center faces several ongoing challenges: * Inconsistent office coverage * Limited continuity of services * Staffing gaps during peak times * Ongoing training demands for temporary staff * Reduced operational efficiency * Difficulty maintaining consistent student support and communication As the center continues to expand programming and services, these challenges are likely to increase without dedicated permanent support staff. | No, this Classified position request is not directly related to accreditation recommendations, contract mandates, or external mandates. However, the roles and responsibilities of the Career and Transfer Center Clerk II/III do support institutional goals of student success, equitable access, and compliance with best practices for student services, which are often referenced in accreditation standards. By ensuring consistent and high-quality support for career and transfer programming, the position helps the college demonstrate its commitment to meeting student needs and supporting their educational pathways—key elements often noted during accreditation reviews. | Yes, this Classified position request is directly related to the expansion and enhancement of Career and Transfer Center services at Folsom Lake College. The roles and responsibilities of the Career and Transfer Center Clerk II/III are designed to provide essential operational and programmatic support as the Center increases its offerings—including more workshops, career fairs, transfer events, outreach, and employer engagement activities. The clerk will ensure consistent front-line service, data tracking, event coordination, and communication, all of which are critical for meeting the needs of a growing student population and responding effectively to increased demand. Without this permanent position, the Center faces inconsistent office coverage, reduced service continuity, staffing gaps during peak times, and diminished capacity for program expansion and improvement. This limits the Center’s ability to deliver high-quality, timely support to students and undermines the effectiveness and sustainability of newly expanded and enhanced programs. | No, this Classified position request is not related to new or expanded facilities at the college, nor is it related to physical health or safety concerns. This request is focused on supporting the operational and programmatic needs of the Career and Transfer Center by providing consistent student service and administrative support as the Center’s programming and student demand grow, rather than addressing facilities or health and safety issues. | 1st Priority

| AUP - Outreach and Recruitment | Student Support Specialist | Requesting budget increase to hire Student Support Specialist to carry out key Outreach Activities and Partner engagement in alignment with college-wide strategic goals and EMP. | Active | 11/25/2024 | Staffing (FT Faculty / Classified / Administrator / Temp Classified/ Other Staffing) | 1 | 95,000 | As our feeder High School district grows and our equity-minded actions grow, our department needs an additional Student Support Specialist to ensure the 16,000 students in our districts are informed, equipped, and prepared to matriculate and start college with a strong foundation of support. As a result of limited funding, our Outreach Department operated with 2 Student Support Specialists and 1 Temp Classified Specialist for the 2025-2026 year. As a result of this increase in staffing, our Department has grown their outreach events by 57% in the past year to include equitable practices such as on-campus support hours offered at our schools serving our DI Student population, 1:1 applied but not enrolled phonecall initiatives with a , and collaborating with our Equity Center, Welcome Center, CFE, and SOAR programs to support students connecting to services as they start their college journey. This has included hosting specialized tours in collaboration with the Welcome and Student Success Center for our middle and high school students and working with our Equity Center to host the Men of Color Summit where we engaged 117 students in exploring our campus and engaging with community members and staff. Our department has grown their outreach activities offered at our High Schools serving our DI Student Population by 200% and 64% of all Outreach Activities occurred at our High Schools serving our DI Student Population. With increased capacity, our department has been able to enhance collaboration and identify more spaces of support with our SOAR Team and our Welcome and Student Success Center Teams - including providing more accessible Orientations on our High School campuses and creating a warm handoff with prospective students and our Welcome Center to navigate services and needs. Our department has also engaged in CRM training and development to implement targeted communication campaigns and grow our reach with students in addressing gaps and barriers to apply and enroll. To remain in alignment with our strategic goals and Enrollment Management Plan, our Outreach Department must have 2 full time Specialists to sustain equitable outreach initiatives and ensure consistent growth in access and support for our new students. With a reduction in funding for our Limited Term Student Support Specialist, our department is at risk of not having adequate staffing to sustain their current efforts in equitable practices and student success initiatives. | Program Growth | Equity Need; Student Success Need | Permanent Classified | Yes: Classified hiring questions below completed | Student Support Specialist | 12 | Full-Time | The Student Support Specialist would enable our Outreach department to sustain equitable initiatives and enhance our services for our Disproportionately-impacted student populations and empower them to pursue postsecondary education. This capacity-building strategy would allow us to promote the college, engage with more prospects, support pre-enrollment processes, and foster relationships with campus and community groups to increase enrollment. This would also allow allow our department to align with maintaining high overall enrollment and increase demographically representative enrollment for first-time students (along with other priority populations as they emerge) as stated in our LRCCD Strategic Plan and increase with equity the number of students who successfully enroll at Folsom Lake College in alignment with our Student Equity Plan. The Student Support Specialist would also permit our department to carry out goals in our Enrollment Management Plan for growing our equitable outreach and onboarding processes. | This position would allow our department to meet our Annual Unit Plan and Enrollment Management Plan goals along with providing the necessary capacity and support to reach our DI student population in alignment with our SEAP Funding. | Throughout the 2025 - 2026 year, we had a LT Outreach Specialist and TCL that has allowed us to build capacity in reaching the above mandates and goals. However, with the absence of this as a permanent position, our services would be limited to general high school outreach services and decrease our ability to sustain equitable initiatives and and prioritize targeted initiatives for our DI Student Population. Currently, the LTT Outreach Specialist has allowed our Outreach Department to grow in terms of diversity of services provided and quantity of services and students served. With 2 Permanent Outreach Specialists, we have increased the number of presentations offered by 38.9%, the number of workshops offered by 87.5%, and the number of tabling by 11.11%. Additionally, we have grown our Outreach impact to our Dual Enrollment Students by offering twice as many information sessions and three times as many workshops. If the LTT Outreach Specialist is not backfilled by a permanent Outreach Specialist, we infer that our overall outreach activities will face a significant decrease, ultimately impacting our enrollment and visibility within the community. As mentioned above, the implementation of the new CRM will require additional administrative time to allow for data tracking and targeted communication campaigns. If an additional Student Support Specialist position is not approved, our Outreach Department will maintain foundational compliance but will not be able to grow or leverage this technology to meet the district goal of growing our enrollment and outreach efforts. Our LT Outreach Specialist and TCL were able to support Folsom Lake College in being the first Los Rios Campus to utilize the Event Enhancement feature on the CRM and leverage the CRM for event tracking and prospect communication. As our department no longer has funding for the LT Specialist, our ability to sustain this growth in utilizing the technology will decrease and impact prospect engagement. | The position would allow us to enhance our collaboration with our programs and services on campus. Specifically, this position would allow for more physical presence in our Welcome and Student Success Center to bridge the gap between prospective students to FLC Students. This includes supporting our WSSC staff in middle school and high school tours along with providing support and information for our prospective students that come onto campus. This Outreach Specialist would serve as our connector from our external students and community members to connecting them to our physical space and support services offered here on campus. | 1st Priority
| AUP - Student Life | Student Support Assistant (Full-time) | The Student Support Assistant would advance the support we can provide our student leaders (particularly club leaders). | Active | 10/10/2024 | Staffing (FT Faculty / Classified / Administrator / Temp Classified/ Other Staffing) | The request is aimed at aligning and elevating Folsom Lake College with our fellow Los Rios colleges, who all have fulltime Student Life Student Support Assistants. | Program Growth | Equity Need; SLO Assessment Need | Permanent Classified | Yes: Classified hiring questions below completed | Student Support Assistant, LRCEA 2025-26 Salary Range 28 | 12 | Full-Time | 40 | GOAL 1: Identify, address and eliminate barriers and equity gaps among different student populations to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and social justice. Our department works to streamline the onboarding process for student leaders in Associated Students to make sure all students are supported in their journey to become student leaders. Additionally, we have a robust chartering process for student clubs and organizations that include forms, orientations, and trainings aimed at keeping our students on track and successful in their endeavors for starting a club. This is ties to eliminate barriers and equity gaps because its important to use that we ensure our students have access and support to developing student-led club communities. Student-centered club communities are essential for helping students build a strong sense of community and inclusion. GOAL 2: Create a welcoming campus culture that reflects and serves our community. Over the last past year, we have had many cultural and identity based clubs including our Native American Club, Queer-Straight Alliance Club, La Comunidad (LatinX) Club, Muslim Student Alliance, Iranian Club, Persian Club, and more. 70% of our student leaders mention joining Associated Students as a way to build community and connect with other students. Student Equity and Achievement Plan Access: Successful Enrollment - New pathways: dual enrollment: we had a Dual enrollment club last year and they are looking to recharter this year. And we have cultural and identity based clubs on campus that fosters a sense of belonging. Retention/Persistent - While we dont have specific data related to our college, studies often discover that students who are more involved on campus have a higher retention rate than students who are not involved on campus. As part of future VAR reporting, we are looking to explore this trend at FLC specifically; however, we anticipate this holding true. Transfer to a 4 Year - 60% of our student leaders mention the benefit of improving their chance of transferring to their dream universities as one of the reasons for joining Associated Students. | There are no new mandates related specifically to the request for new personnel. All related mandates have been long-established but still impact the need for this position including: Mandates pertaining to student conference travel (having a full-time employee to chaperone students on their trip), Requirements around monitoring student events Providing orientations and trainings to student leaders Monitoring compliance with Los Rios policy and regulations (P2311, P2312, P2314, R2311, R2312, R2314) pertaining to student leadership requirements, student elections, and Associated Student protocols and practices in addition to Title IX requirements for student leaders as it related to academic process and status. While our department currently has one full-time supervisor who ensures compliance with the following mandates, a second full-time staff member would help tremendously at meeting these core mandates of our programs. At times, meeting these requirements feels precarious in our current department structure, since we do not have back up support for student conference travel, orientation trainings for students, or any of the other mandates in our programs. Part-time staff cannot fulfill these requirements unfortunately. We are the only college in Los Rios who doesnt have multiple personnel assigned to Student Life. | Despite being the smallest college in Los Rios and having the smallest staffing in Student Life (1 full time staff and 4 part time staff), our student engagement is comparable, and in some cases, greater than our sister colleges. Below is the number of active Associated Student members and clubs in Los Rios for reference. ARC - 26 Associated Student leaders, 50 clubs, CRC - 20 Associated Student leaders, 25 clubs, SCC - 13 Associated Student leaders, 27 clubs FLC - 26 Associated Student leaders, 25 clubs, Some other numbers. In spring of 2023, 2025, and 2026, Folsom Lake College has hosted our annual Los Rios lobby day training for all associated students leadership in our district. Second only to ARC in our district, we have consistently supported the second most students in attending the annual CCCSAA Student Leadership Conference. In spring of 2023, 2025, and 2026, Folsom Lake College has hosted our annual Los Rios lobby day training for all associated students leadership in our district. Second only to ARC in our district, we have consistently supported the second most students in attending the annual CCCSAA Student Leadership Conference. | The classified personnel request ties to physical needs due to staffing coverage. With current staffing, we have one full-time supervisor and 4 part-time employees. Given limited funding, our part-time employees cannot work over intersession and summer which means coverage of the center during intersession and summer rest solely on the student life supervisor. An additionally full-time classified professional would greatly help with department coverage. In addition, events and conferences must be supervised by full-time professional staff members. With only one full-time member in our department, events and conference attendance is dependent on the student life supervisors availability. If for some reason the student life supervisor is unable to attend a student travel for a conference due to an emergency, we do not have backup support to accompany the student leaders to their conferences. | 1st Priority
| AUP - Veterans Center | Student Support Specialist | A review of staffing across the Los Rios colleges reveals that FLC is the only campus without a permanent classified staff member dedicated to supporting veteran students in the Veterans Success Center (VSC). This lack of dedicated personnel places FLC out of compliance and limits our ability to effectively serve this unique population. The current structure, which relies heavily on the Director of Special Populations (and previously on the A&R personnel), is not sustainable and strains resources. After the A&R Supervisor retired and the temp staff that did the day to day operations graduated in May, the center no longer had any staffing. The Director of Special Populations jumped in and hired 4 new student employees and a part-time Temp staff to keep the center running and supporting our students. The Director also got trained in less than a week to certify veterans to ensure they receive their educational benefits. The necessity of this position cannot be overstated. Veteran students are already a disproportionately impacted group, and it is crucial that we provide them with the tailored support they deserve. Failing to have a dedicated VSC staff member undermines our commitment to equitable student services, leaving FLC’s veterans without the resources available at other Los Rios campuses. It is essential that FLC’s Veterans Success Center receives a permanent, dedicated staff member to ensure consistent, specialized support for our veteran students, addressing their needs and promoting their success. Below is the current staff positions assigned throughout the district. 1. ARC: TOTAL – 6 permanent supervisor/classified staff 1. VRC Supervisor (100% FTE) – oversight of Veterans Resource Center 2. Evaluator II (100% FTE) – SCO 3. A&R Technician III (100% FTE) – SCO 4. A&R Technician II (100% FTE) – SCO 5. SPA (100% FTE) – TriO SSS Veterans 6. SPA (100% FTE) – Veterans Outreach 2. CRC: TOTAL – 2+ permanent classified staff 1. SPA (100% FTE) – oversight of Veterans Resource Center 2. Evaluator II (100% FTE) – SCO 3. Evaluator II (5-10% FTE) – SCO 3. SCC: TOTAL – 3 permanent classified staff 1. Evaluator II (80% FTE) – SCO 2. SPA (100% FTE) – SCO 3. Support Specialist (100% FTE) – oversight of Veterans Resource Center 4. FLC: TOTAL – 0 permanent classified staff | Active | 11/1/2016 | Staffing (FT Faculty / Classified / Administrator / Temp Classified/ Other Staffing) | 1 | The Veterans Success Center (VSC) is in dire need of a dedicated full-time permanent staff to support the Veteran and dependent student population. The student veteran population continues to increase, specifically students veterans and dependents of veterans who utilize VA educational benefits. Of the four Los Rios colleges, FLC has the highest ratio of Veteran student population to total campus enrollment. However, FLC is the only college within Los Rios that does not have at least one permanent staffing. Currently, the VA certifying official responsibilities is delegated to the Director of Special Populations who also oversees 5 other departments. Given the expansion of the VSC with increased hours of services & increase in student enrollment, a full-time classified staff member is required to maintain appropriate and timely services for the Veteran student population. | Safety | Equity Need | Permanent Classified | VSC Student Support Specialist | 12 month | Full-Time | The Veteran Success Center plays a critical role in advancing Folsom Lake College goals by serving student veterans, dependents, and Chapter 31/33 recipients who rely on timely certification, tailored counseling, and consistent campus support. Currently, the center operates without any full-time staff and lacks a full-time VA certifying official. This hinders our ability to maintain federal compliance, keep the day to day operations in the center, collaborate with community partners, and meet the complex needs of student veterans. To ensure, veteran students and dependents can attend Folsom Lake College and use their education VA benefits, there needs to be an assigned certifying officer at each college campus. All Los Rios Colleges have a dedicated full-time staff and certifying officer for the Veteran Center, except Folsom Lake College. Currently, the Director of Special Populations and another classified staff are certifying students to get their benefits which is a tedious process that requires a full-time staff. These are additional duties they have observed aside from their other assigned tasks. If Folsom Lake College wants to continue to support our veteran and dependents, we need a robust support system/staffing. This will allow for us to close achievement gabs within our veteran population, do more outreach to organizations that support veterans, and build community partnerships to support students that are facing housing insecurity, food insecurity, academic challenges, etc. To recap, Hiring a full-time staff member for the Veteran Success Center directly supports Folsom Lake College’s mission and organizational effectiveness goals by: - Ensuring compliance with VA certification requirements and federal regulations - Providing consistent, year-round service to a federally protected student population - Strengthening retention, completion, and transition outcomes for veteran students - Advancing institutional capacity, stability, and accountability This position is not an expansion of service, but a foundational requirement to meet existing responsibilities and fulfill the college’s strategic commitments. | The Veteran Affairs office conducts periodic compliance surveys at educational institutions. The two main purposes of these surveys are to (1) ensure that VA payments going to the school and students enrolled at the school are based upon proper and correct enrollment information as furnished by the school to VA; and, (2) assist school and training officials and students in understanding the requirements of the law in order to prevent deficiencies or violations which could develop because of misunderstandings or misinterpretations of the law. The Veterans Auto and Education Improvement Act of 2022 (Pub. L. 117-333), enacted on January 5, 2023, requires notification of not more than ten business days for a compliance survey. In addition, there are 3 mini audits that are conducted within two years to ensure policies and procedures are being implemented at the institution correctly. According to the California Community Colleges Memo for Veteran Resource Center Minimum Standards: - Verification & updating local database of enrolled students from CCC Apply Data. We do not do this; do not have staffing resources. - Verification and updating local database of enrolled students that did not self-identify as a veteran or military-affiliated in CCC Apply. We do not do this; do not have staffing resources. - School Certifying Official (SCO) - 1 full-time SCO for every 125 GI Bill students and/or dependents enrolled in the educational institution (per VA recommendations). School Certifying Official (SCO) VA recommends one (1) SCO full-time employee (FTE) for every 125 GI Bill students and/or dependents enrolled in the educational institution. This number should be adjusted as appropriate by the educational institution when the SCO’s duties are expanded beyond certifying GI Bill beneficiaries’ enrollments.(US Dept. Veterans Affairs School Certifying Official Handbook Section: School and Student Responsibilities) SCO’s are responsible for: - Reporting initial enrollment, continuing enrollment (dual certification) and changes to enrollment - Priority Enrollment - Transition Act - Enrollment Manager - Enrolling in ACH Direct Deposit - Reporting fees to institutions - 85/15 Rule – Submission of 35% exemption - SCO Annual Training Requirements - Comply with Public Law 116-315 and any other state or federally approved legislative requirements. - Submitting CSAAVE catalog approval application We have processed 180 certifications this Fall 2025 semester, and our numbers continue to go up. We had over 200 before the pandemic. There is currently no FULL-TIME Staff doing this process. Recommended best practices (which we currently do not fully follow): - Instructional materials and textbook vouchers. Have not had staff to support this. - Coordinated processes with Admissions & Records office with regular alerts of new veterans and military affiliated student applicants. Have not had staff to support this. - Collect the number of students accessing the VRC annually such as the number of visits, contacts, etc. No staffing support. | The Veteran Success Center has seen a growth in student enrollment. We have certified over 180 students for the Fall 2025 semester that are using veteran benefits. We also serve students that are not using their benefits; therefore, we project a higher number of veterans. | None | 1st Priority
| AUP - Welcome and Student Success Center | Fulltime Clerk II | This is an ongoing request to fund a permanent full time clerk position to support a key college goal - student engagement and student success- by supporting the Welcome Center. | Active | 11/1/2021 | Staffing (FT Faculty / Classified / Administrator / Temp Classified/ Other Staffing) | 1 | 43,000 - 53,000 (Classified Salary, pay scale 16) | This request for a full time Clerk II position is necessary to sustain the tasks and functions of the Welcome and Student Success Center. Our current staffing for the WSSC will not include any full time or permanent staff members. This will be a disservice to the students we serve and the student ambassadors currently working in the WSSC. As this space historically uplifts and elevates student ambassadors, there is consistent movement and shifting in staffing of the space and a need for consistent and reliable staffing to ensure that students can utilize our Welcome and Student Success Center to navigate our campus and services. Our Welcome and Student Success Center aims to serve our college students in connecting to resources, getting their questions answered, and navigating our campus and resources. This space is often seen as the first stop for most of our students in navigating enrollment milestones and addressing barriers to their academic success. It is vital that the space not only be staffed to meet the needs of our growing enrollment but also ensure there is a consistent clerk who can support our student ambassadors and answer student questions and inquiries as temporary and student staffing fluctuates. | Program Growth | SLO Assessment Need; Student Success Need | Permanent Classified | Yes: Classified hiring questions below completed | Clerk II | 12 | Full-Time | Hiring a Clerk II aligns with our college-wide goals and strategic plans. This includes alignment with maintaining high overall enrollment and increase demographically representative enrollment in our LRCCD Strategic Plan and increase with equity the number of students who successfully enroll at FLC in accordance with our Student Equity Plan. The WSCC Clerk II would permit the WSSC team to assist students navigating and connecting to enrollment resources and also support students who may have several barriers to enrollment navigate diverse services and get their questions answered. In alignment with our Campus climate survey and Student Support Services Survey, our Clerk II would enhance our WSSC team's ability to create a strong sense of belonging for our student body and increase access and awareness of student support services. This also includes engaging in Outreach activities such as tours and campus events to support students creating a strong sense of connection to our campus. | In alignment with AB 132, our Basic Needs Center will be establishing independent programming to support basic need resources for our students. As a result of this programming distinction, our Welcome & Student Success Center has experienced a decrease in staffing and capacity to serve our students and welcome them on our campus. Our WSSC will be limited to 2 Part Time Student ambassadors and 2 part time temporary clerks to staff this space 5 days a week. Historically, WSSC needs 3-4 staff members to service the students utilizing the space, so we will not be able to retain current service expectations if we do not receive funding to hire a Clerk II to ensure there is adequate, consistent support for students. | 1st Priority
| ADP/Program Review - Allied Health | Allied Health Clerk III Permanent Classified | The Allied Health department is growing and the complex programs within are becoming even more complicated and nuanced for a faculty member to administer. There are mountains of clerical work, contract maintenance, and student health & background checks, and now unfunded mandates, that require proper record keeping. As the Allied Health department grows, so too does this clerical work. Other robust Allied Health departments at sister colleges have a Clerk III for this very reason, and if Folsom Lake College hopes to continue growing Allied Health, this is the cost of that effort. | Active | 10/11/2019 | Staffing (FT Faculty / Classified / Administrator / Temp Classified/Other Staffing) | Yes | 1 | Managing allied health programs has dramatically increased in complexity. For all allied health programs there are increasingly heavy regulatory mandates such as: SB 1348, clinical agency clearances of background check, drug screen, and immunization compliance, regulatory agency accreditation/approval visits, contract maintenance, etc. These items take an extraordinary amount of time necessitating the permanent hiring of a full-time Allied Health Clerk III. In addition to the typical duties described in the LRCCD Clerk III position description, this would also assist with work uniquely associated with allied health programs including, but not limited to: " Maintaining agency contracts " Monitoring of student compliance for clinical placement " Supporting revisions of program applications " Monitoring student progress in online clinical rotation management system. " Keeping program websites up-to-date " Assist with program accreditation " Assist AH adjunct faculty with clerical needs " Support growth of future Allied Health Programs For all AH programs, there are required regulatory mandates: SB 1348, clinical agency clearances of background check, drug screen, and immunization compliance, regulatory agency accreditation/approval visits, contract maintenance, etc. These items take an extraordinary amount of time necessitating the hiring of a TCL Clerk currently funded by grants. As this department continues to grow, there is a need for a full-time clerk. | Program Growth | Student Success Need | Permanent Classified | Yes: Classified hiring questions below completed | Admin Asst III | 12 | Full-Time | The Allied Health Clerk III directly supports Folsom Lake Colleges mission to provide equitable access to highquality workforce education by ensuring consistent, timely, and equitable administration of Allied Health admissions and compliance requirements. This position manages critical functions including admissions support, drug and background screenings, immunization verification, and other mandated program requirements essential for student entry and progression. By centralizing these highly regulated and timesensitive processes, the Allied Health Clerk III ensures fair and consistent application of requirements, supports student success, and reduces barriers for students navigating complex clinical mandates. The role also safeguards institutional compliance with accrediting agencies, clinical partners, and regulatory standards. This position aligns with the Colleges Strategic Plan and Annual Goals by strengthening workforce development programs, supporting student retention, and allowing faculty to focus on instruction and program quality rather than administrative compliance tasks. The Allied Health Clerk III is essential to maintaining program capacity, compliance, and equitable student access across all Allied Health programs. | The district's MOUs show all student clinical requirements. CDPH oversees many of the Allied Health Programs and has separate requirements for each. | The AHIII position supports all three areas by providing essential administrative support for the new RADTEC program, assisting with the expansion of CNA cohorts, and enhancing the MLT program. In each case, this position significantly supports faculty by managing the complex administrative and compliance requirements unique to Allied Health programs. | This position will support programs housed in the new Health Hub by providing essential administrative and compliance support; however, the role does not address or fulfill a safety need. | 1st Priority
| ADP/Program Review - Chemistry | Chemistry Instructional Assistant | We are in need of third laboratory technician to serve our current and expanding CHEM lab sections, course offerings, and suite of instruments. | Active | 4/14/2025 | Staffing (FT Faculty / Classified / Administrator / Temp Classified/Other Staffing) | No | 1 | CHEM began offering 2 new-to-district FERM SCI courses (CHEM 80 and CHEM 339) in Fa25. Additionally, will be offering 2 additional new-to-district FERM SCI courses (CHEM 337 - Introduction to Brewing & Beer and CHEM 81 - General Chemistry Support II - A Food Science Perspective) beginning in Fa26. The prep for these courses has no overlap with traditional CHEM prep work. Said prep requires a technician to have a different skill set, including: microbe handling, proper cleaning/sanitizing practices, monitoring & maintaining fermentation health, qPCR, and GMP practices in a food manufacturing setting. Additionally, a lab tech will be required to attend to long-term student experiments to keep them "healthy" and to prevent contamination. Finally, many microbiological & chemical analyses need to be set-up in advance of class, such as: bacterial purification & propagation, yeast purification & propagation, sample prep for qPCR, and Kjeldahl digestions (which require operation by a trained chemistry due to the hazards of working with 420 degrees Celsius concentrated sulfuric acid). Our newly acquired analytical instrumentation (GCs, GCMS-Olfactometer, LC, LCMS, microwave plasma atomic emission spectrometer (MP-AES), texture analyzer, qPCR, and other advanced instrumentation) will require routine maintenance and occasional repair. These include weekly, monthly, and yearly tasks that are time consuming, yet necessary, to avoid premature failure and expensive repair. It is beyond the scope of the work possible to attend to by faculty. Faculty job descriptions describe the operation of instrumentation but not their maintenance & repair. Additionally, with increase demands on instructors to expand course offerings, a lab technician responsible for checking and setting-up instrumentation prior to its use in a class would serve our students to avoid potential missed experiences if an instrument goes down suddenly. Finally, the American Chemical Society (ACS) recommends one full-time lab technician for every four full-time (or full-time equivalent) chemistry faculty members. Main campus currently has 9.931 total FTE in Fa25 and will have 9.161 total FTE in Sp26. With plans to grow course offerings in the Fa26-Sp27 academic year, we will be approaching the 12 total FTE threshold. Please see the ACS Guideline recommendation below: "A sustainable and robust program requires an adequate number of secretarial, administrative, and support personnel, along with technical staff to maintain chemical inventories and instrumentation, support laboratory functions, and assure regulatory and safety compliance. The number of support staff members should be sufficient to allow faculty to devote their time and effort to academic responsibilities and scholarly activities. One full-time laboratory technician for every four full-time or full-time-equivalent chemistry faculty members is recommended. Part-time and student help are not adequate substitutes for full-time laboratory technicians." To accommodate the projected main campus class growth, some lab sections will need to move into the early morning (starting at 7:30am) and late evening (ending at 10:30pm). Thus, coupled with the justifications listed above, a third main campus lab tech is requested due to the increase in experiment preparation, laboratory set-up, and student support needed. | Safety | SLO Assessment Need; Equity Need; Student Success Need | Permanent Classified | Yes: Classified hiring questions below completed | Laboratory Technician | 12 | Full-Time | N/A | The Chemistry Instructional Assistant position directly supports Folsom Lake College’s mission to provide equitable access to high-quality, innovative educational programs by ensuring the safe and effective operation of our new analytical instrumentation and expanding chemistry and fermentation science offerings. The Chemistry Department has launched two new-to-district courses: CHEM 339 (Introduction to Fermentation Chemistry) and CHEM 80 (General Chemistry Support I – A Food Science Perspective) in Fa25 that require highly specialized technical preparation beyond traditional chemistry lab support. Two additional new-to-district courses: CHEM 337 (Introduction to Brewing & Beer) and CHEM 81 (General Chemistry Support II – A Food Science Perspective) are planned to begin in Fa26. This position aligns with the College’s Strategic Plan and Annual Goals by advancing STEM innovation, workforce development, and hands-on learning. The instructional assistant will manage complex laboratory operations including microbial handling, sanitation protocols, qPCR setup, and GMP procedures, skills essential for supporting both student success and compliance with industry standards. They will also maintain long-term fermentation experiments, monitor culture health, and prepare materials for microbiological and chemical analyses such as bacterial propagation, yeast culture, and Kjeldahl digestions, which require expertise to perform safely. From an organizational effectiveness standpoint, the position is critical for maintaining and repairing the College’s newly acquired analytical instrumentation—GCs, GC-MS-Olfactometer, LC, LCMS, MP-AES, texture analyzer, and qPCR systems—which demand consistent attention and specialized technical knowledge. Regular maintenance is essential to prevent costly damage and downtime, ensuring that instructional programs and research opportunities remain uninterrupted. The American Chemical Society (ACS) Guidelines recommend one full-time laboratory technician per four FTE faculty. With approximately 9–10 chemistry FTE already at the main campus, Folsom Lake College is currently slightly below the ACS-recommended staffing threshold. This discrepancy will continue to grow in the 2026-2027 year (and beyond) as course offerings expand. Faculty cannot absorb these technical, maintenance, and compliance responsibilities within their academic increasing workloads, nor is this duty outlined in their job descriptions. A full-time instructional assistant is therefore essential to sustain the growth, safety, and quality of FLC’s chemistry and fermentation science programs allowing faculty to focus on teaching and scholarship while ensuring students have access to modern, well-maintained facilities that prepare them for university transfer and STEM careers. | N/A | The Chemistry Instructional Assistant is essential to meeting the expanding program needs in Folsom Lake College’s new Oak Hall Science Building, which includes modern chemistry and fermentation science labs equipped with advanced instrumentation. This position will oversee laboratory setup, equipment calibration, maintenance, chemical inventory management, and safety compliance, all critical to ensuring that labs operate efficiently and safely. With the launch of Fermentation Science courses (CHEM 337, CHEM 339, CHEM 80, and CHEM 81), the program now requires specialized preparation, including microbial culture handling, sanitation protocols, fermentation monitoring, qPCR analysis, and compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). These skills fall outside traditional chemistry prep and are essential for student learning and program accreditation. Without this position, the Chemistry program will face significant challenges operating safely and maintaining equipment in Oak Hall. Faculty would be required to take on technical, maintenance, and compliance duties beyond their academic responsibilities, reducing instructional time and jeopardizing safety and regulatory standards. Additionally, the absence of a dedicated instructional assistant risks premature equipment failure, experiment contamination, and lost opportunities for student engagement in hands-on, industry-aligned laboratory experiences. A full-time Instructional Assistant is therefore vital to ensure that the expanded facilities, new programs, and advanced instrumentation in Oak Hall can be used to their full potential in supporting student success and STEM innovation. | The Chemistry Instructional Assistant is essential to meeting the expanding program needs in Folsom Lake College’s new Oak Hall Science Building, which includes modern chemistry and fermentation science labs equipped with advanced instrumentation. 26 | ADP/Program Review - Learning Skills | Continued funding for Tutorial Services Assistant | In our successful Title III grant application, we stated "one critical component of this plan will be hiring a full time Tutorial Services Assistant to manage administrative aspects of our new programs. College President, Whitney Yamamura, recognizes the critical need for this position and has agreed that the college will use set-aside funding to continue paying this salary after the grant term." The creation of the Tutorial Services Assistant (TSA) Position was the central component of our Title III SIP grant. The TSA position is incredibly important because it handles administrative duties for all academic peer education programs at FLC. This unification allows the programs to operate far more efficiently and bring students a more robust service. Overall, the TSA position brings amazing value to the college. As the grant winds down, we ask that the college assume the TSA salary as originally agreed upon. | Active | 10/25/2023 | Staffing (FT Faculty / Classified / Administrator / Temp Classified/Other Staffing) | No | 1 | $110,000 | The TSA position makes it possible for all academic peer education at FLC to run in an efficient and robust manner. The Science Center enrolls about 150 students in study skills courses each semester; Tutoring provides nearly 3,000 attended appointments each semester; the Math Center enrolls about 60 students in study skills courses each semester and is piloting the Math Boot Camp bridge program; Embedded Tutors are placed in over 200 course sections each semester with a focus on entry/transfer-level Math and English. Analyses of these programs show that students who utilize these programs experience elevated success, persistence, and retention and that benefits accrue especially strongly to Black and other URM students. Providing these programs requires that Learning Skills employs 102 peer educators (October 2024). The paperwork burden of hiring, scheduling, and paying this large staff is enormous. Without a dedicated TSA, we would not be able to continue to provide this level of programming. | Pedagogy | Equity Need; Student Success Need | Permanent Classified | Yes: Classified hiring questions below completed | Tutorial Services Assistant | 12 | Full-Time | The Tutorial Services Assistant (TSA) Position is tightly linked to college goals of addressing and eliminating equity gaps among disproportionately impacted student populations, especially as they pertain entry/transfer-level success in Math and English. The TSA conducts the technically difficult work associated with hiring, scheduling, and paying nearly 100 tutors in the Math Center, Science Center, Tutoring Center, Reading and Writing Center and in the Embedded Tutoring Program. The TSA is strategically positioned to support the work of all of these programs, so the individual programs can operate efficiently. The TSA's work allows the faculty and tutors in these programs to provide equity-forward tutoring to FLC students. The outcomes for these students are significant. For example, success and persistence rates of underrepresented minority students who attend appointment tutoring are 7 and 9% higher respectively than their peers who do not. More statistical data is available upon request. The TSA is currently paid through the Title III Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) grant. The grant has expired and we are currently using carryover funding. The carryover funding will soon expire. If the TSA position is not prioritized, then the system developed through the SIP grant will cease to exist and most of the gains that the college made as a result of the SIP grant will be lost. | The Tutorial Services Assistant (TSA) position is directly linked to the college's mandate for first year students to complete transfer level Math and English and to the college's mandate for overall completion. The TSA makes Math and English Tutoring possible by conducting the difficult and laborious task of hiring, payroll, and scheduling for tutors in the Math Center, Tutoring Center, Reading and Writing Center, and Embedded Tutoring Program. The tutors in these programs then proceed to help students succeed at entry/transfer-level Math and English. Moreover, these students achieve college completion at high rates: Students from the 2020 cohort who attended tutoring where 63% more likely to earn an award than their peers who didn't attend tutoring. This would not be possible without the TSA serving as the backbone of these programs. | The Tutorial Services Position has allowed the Math Center, Tutoring Center, Reading and Writing Center, Science Center, and Embedded Tutoring Program to grow to their current robust sizes, in which they collectively serve over 5,000 student visits each year. The TSA services as a centralized administration for hiring, paying, and scheduling the tutors in all of these programs. This process allows each program to focus on pedagogy and student success. Without this centralized position, some of these programs would completely cease to exist and others would operate on a significantly reduced level because they would be not have the local skills, knowledge, and time to efficiently hire, pay, and schedule tutors. | The Tutorial Services Position is closely related to physical space and health and safety concerns. The TSA manages a number of rooms in FL2 including 240, 246, 237, and 238. The TSA is the only permanent employee regularly working on-ground in these spaces. Without the TSA, the rooms would either frequently be closed or would be full of students but unsupervised: a situation that could easily lead to problems. | 1st Priority

LTs are the primary stewards of the main campus and EDC libraries, are responsible for accurate and efficient circulation of library materials in the Los Rios Libraries, and have primary responsibility for the ordering, record keeping, and physical processing of library materials. LTs hire, train and supervise federal work-study students who support the library with physical inventory, processing new books, scanning requests, and circulation. Our department has historically employed 4 LTs--3 at the main campus and 1 at the EDC library. Being fully staffed allows the libraries to be open for a combined 86 hours per week, providing instructional space and support for students and the community. On Fridays and throughout the summer session, EDC is staffed only by a single LT. Without these positions, the library would not be able to remain open late nor to keep the EDC library open at all, which would seriously impact the students who need us most: those who don't have a quiet, safe place to study, personal computers, or reliable internet at home. LTs at the main campus specialize in different functional areas (acquisitions, circulation, etc.), and being fully staffed supports the entire team's ability to do their work. The LT who staffs the EDC library covers all functional areas, and is supported by their peers at the main campus library. LTs serve on district-wide committees with their peers in these functional areas. Being fully staffed enables full participation from the FLC library with our peers at the larger colleges, who have many more staff members with whom they share functional responsibility. Below is a summary of the types of work that LTs perform at the library: *Order and receive books and other library materials and supplies, and track related budgets *Maintain inventory of department supplies and prepare requisitions for purchases *Prepare financial, statistical and information reports *Receive and distribute mail *Clean and repair print and non-print materials *Oversee the receiving and check-in of periodicals; order and maintain periodical subscriptions *Oversee inventory of the library collection *Pre-catalog materials for review by librarians *Check materials in and out to library patrons *Handle inter-library loan transactions *Set up and maintain the reserve materials (textbooks) collection *Oversee re-shelving of library materials *Perform tasks necessary to opening and closing the library *Resolve patron complaints and/or refer them to appropriate party for resolution *Establish and maintain relationships with outside vendors and suppliers *Responsible for interviewing, training and overseeing temporary employees and federal work-study students *Serve on classified staff college and district committees and local hiring committees *Promote library resources by creating and maintaining library displays | Pedagogy | Student Success Need | Permanent Classified | Yes: Classified hiring questions below completed | Library Technician | 12 | Full-Time | The library has a critical role in meeting FLC's strategic goal of eliminating barriers and equity gaps. Our LTs, as stewards of the library space, are crucial for maintaining our extensive open hours. | Title V 54221. Burden-Free Access to Instructional Materials formally recommends the establishment of lending programs and maintenance of college library resources to support immediate access to course materials. Library Technicians are responsible for ordering and processing textbooks so that they are available at the start of each term, scanning requested materials and/or supervising student workers who scan textbooks, managing course Reading Lists and Digital titles in Alma, and checking books out to students. | We are seeing more and more students on campus every semester. The library supports all college departments and programs, so more students means that work is increasing for library staff. This position request is not a true growth position because we are simply seeking to replace a position that the library relied upon for years. During this period of increasing enrollment and a steady rebound of on-ground classes, reducing library hours and decreasing library services to students is inappropriate and does not align with college goals or student needs. | 1st Priority

This position would split its time between scheduling, enrollment in the course, running and maintaining the day to day operations of the tutor and students in the math center as well as provide tutoring assistance half time to support the MLC, Math Learning Communities. Without a more permanent position, the staff who agree to work at this position are transitory and do not stay longer than 1-2 years, which creates discontinuity in service, repetitive cycles of relearning the position, and varied success with finding new people with unique skills for this position who wish to have a non-secure temporary position as it is now. | Program Growth | Student Success Need | Permanent Classified | Yes: Classified hiring questions below completed | 10 | Part-Time | 32 | This position supports the operations of the math center and its goals of increasing student succes in a fair and equitable way as it allows the MC to be open to all students, regardless of their placement. | 4th Priority

| ADP/Program Review - Theatre and Cinema Arts | Instruction Assistant: VAPA | The VAPA departments, with a focus on Theater, Dance, and Music, are seeking to employ a new full-time Instructional Assistant dedicated to providing essential support for lighting, audio, and video requirements across departmental productions and classes, and providing essential assistance for the educational and operational needs of the Performing Arts Center instructional spaces and theaters. | Active | 10/23/2023 | Staffing (FT Faculty / Classified / Administrator / Temp Classified/Other Staffing) | No | 1 | Instructional Assistant Salary | The VAPA departments, with a focus on Theatre, Dance, and Music, request the addition of a full-time Instructional Assistant to meet growing program needs. This position will provide essential support for lighting, audio, and video in departmental productions—including theatre, dance, and music performances—and assist with technical courses such as TA 422 Stage Lighting, MUSM 306 Live Sound Reinforcement, and DANCE 410 Dance Composition and Production. The role will also enable full utilization of the FLC Recording Studio, expanding opportunities for student learning and career preparation. Importantly, this appointment will reduce reliance on costly VenueTech personnel for Harris Center productions, allowing resources to be redirected into strengthening productions and programs, thereby promoting student success. This position will play a critical role in maintaining a safe working environment for students by supervising the use of highly technical entertainment industry equipment. As VAPA departments expand and provide new educational opportunities, additional staff support and oversight are essential to protect student safety and health. An extra set of eyes ensures safer learning environments where current support staffing is already stretched—particularly when multiple instructional spaces such as the Drama Lab, Scene Shop, and Recording Studio are in use at the same time. Because these facilities fall outside VenueTech management oversight, trained instructional staff are required to supervise their safe operation. With the recent addition of full-time faculty in Music and Theatre, the VAPA programs are expanding rapidly, placing increasing demands on existing staff who are already stretched thin. | Pedagogy | Student Success Need | Permanent Classified | Instructional Assistant Theatre/Music | 10 | Full-Time | The addition of a full-time Instructional Assistant for Theatre/Music directly advances Folsom Lake Colleges Mission to empower students through equitable, innovative education while aligning with key institutional plans. The College Master Plan calls for high-quality, hands-on learning, student engagement, innovation in technology, and strengthened community partnershipsall of which this position supports by ensuring safe, supervised use of advanced lighting, audio, video, and recording equipment across VAPA productions and classes. The Strategic Plan emphasizes student access, equity, and exemplary teaching and learning; this role addresses those goals by expanding instructional capacity, reducing equity gaps in technical training, and providing consistent support across multiple instructional spaces. This staffing request is a strategic investment that enhances student safety, success, and workforce readiness while expanding institutional capacity to deliver high-impact, community-connected education. | N/A | The recent growth of the Theatre, Music, and Dance departments at Folsom Lake College has expanded course offerings, productions, and student participation to a level that now requires additional dedicated staffing support. In Theatre alone, the department’s FTE has nearly doubled since the pandemic, and with the addition of new full-time faculty in both Music and Theatre, the VAPA programs are expanding rapidly. This growth has placed increasing demands on existing full time staff, who are already stretched thin. A full-time Instructional Assistant specializing in lighting, audio, and video is essential to supervise students working with complex technologies, ensuring both their safety and their success. Without this position, program growth is hindered by safety risks in labs, underutilized facilities like the Recording Studio, and faculty and staff being pulled between teaching and technical oversight. Adding this role will sustain the momentum of VAPA’s growth, safeguard students in increasingly complex learning environments, and ensure the college continues to deliver high-quality, career-relevant education in the performing arts. | This position is essential to addressing the physical and safety concerns inherent in the Theatre, Music, and Dance programs, where students regularly work with heavy scenery, power tools, high-voltage lighting, sound systems, and recording technology. With expanded course offerings and program growth, inadequate supervision in these environments poses significant risks to student well-being, and current staffing cannot sufficiently cover multiple spaces such as the Scene Shop, Drama Lab, and Recording Studio when they are in use at the same time. A full-time Instructional Assistant specializing in lighting, audio, and video would provide the trained oversight necessary to enforce safe practices, prevent accidents, and allow students to focus on learning and creativity without unnecessary risk. Investing in this position affirms the colleges commitment to student safety while sustaining the high-quality, hands-on training that defines the VAPA programs. | 1st Priority
