| Comments / Commentaires | Ceased print during pandemic with a few exceptions/ Continued Approvals with E only , no print..Ordered only faculty and reserve requests until last couple of months of year. We then released funding to Librarians for ordering ebooks only, via whichever methods they preferred. We also tested the RIALTO (ALMA) acquisition module this year and a project group of librarians ordered through that interface. | At the beginning of the fiscal year, all of the abovebut we recently stopped our print purchases (including approval plans). | All of the above. Print shipments were stopped initally but recently resumed in a limited capacity | We stopped buying print books altogether at the beginning, then we began buying them again whenever an ebook version was unavailable -- either when a book was requested by faculty/students or when a librarian chose to acquire it for the collection. | We did not acquire any print for the first few months of the pandemic. Eventually we were able to resume firm-ordering for requests, and rush ordering for course materials. We're now (Feb 2021) restarting our English print approval profiles, and filling the gap created by the suspension of print approvals. We permitted our approval plans for languages other than English to continue throughout the pandemic, with material stored at OCLC while they were still operational. | Seulement lorsqu'il n'y a pas de version électronique disponible. | All of the above. Though we paused our approval plans for the first few months of the pandemic. We try to get e whenever possible | We too had to suspend print shipments during the spring, but resumed in early summer. Now, we purchase print when the e-book version is unavailable or if the title unaffordable in that format. We also purchase print for titles that may not be immediately needed for a class but that are part of longer-term collection development in an area. | Still purchase e-first, but have purchased print if other format not available or if it's needed for accessibility or copyright reasons. | Au début de pandémie, il y a eu arrêt des achats imprimés. Progressivement, achats ont recommencés en privilégiant l’électronique. Lorsque le document n'est disponible en version | We have purchsed print throughout the pandemic. We order from ProQuest Oasis, Amazon, and one of our local bookstores. Acquisition staff pick up packages from the closed campus and from the local bookstore, receive them at home, and deliver them to the cataloguer, who is also WFH, for cataloguing and processing. The acquisition staff or the cataloguer return the items to the library. | Approval/Slips/By Request have all been used throughout the pandemic, but in the first few months print was halted due to the facilities being closed on both campuses. Print approval plans at UBCV were stopped for the year with minor exceptions. Print materials were allowed to be ordered and received at UBCV in October when we were able to partially reopen our Collection Services/Technical Services units. | All of the above. Print shipments were stopped initially but resumed to some degree in the summer. Print books are coming on some smaller approval plans (fine arts, non-English, or paid with gift funds), print titles can be selected by liaisons if they're paying with gift funds, but budget funds are used strictly for ebooks unless there is a request for a specific title only available as a print book. | Initially only for grad students, but concern about lack of availablility has opened things up | We didn't order print at the beginning of the pandemic but started again in the summer with slips and by request | We are ordering through approval plan, slips and requests. Ebooks are ordered in place of print if available and with similar price. | We froze all print acquistion in the spring, also pausing our approval plan (budget cut). In late August we reactivated our approval plan but instead of having print approval titles sent, we get a monthly report of what would have been print approval matches, and then try to move as many as possible into DDA or ebook firm orders | We didn't have print approval plans pre-COVID. Now ordering print from GOBI recommendations only when e-books aren't available or are extraordinarily expensive. Amalivre ordering halted - no French print ordered this year.
| 2. Does your institution plan to go back to buying print as you did pre-pandemic? 10 | Comments / Commentaires | Will need to review all of our approval plans with the different vendors. | We have shifted to ePreferred but will still buy print for some areas of collection | It has already mostly resumed as of now even though ebooks are prioritized. | Because we're responding to budget cuts and library closures as well as the pandemic, and also because ebook options continue to grow, we will be buying somewhat less print in future. | Seulement lorsqu'il n'y a pas de version électronique disponible. | We have been e-preferred in most subject areas for a few years. We will continue to buy print for the Arts/Humanities areas where e is not appropriate. | We will probably prefer e-books to print for more areas than we did in the past, but e-books are not always the solution. | We will make an effort to continue to go e-first when purchasing (some print will still be purchased, but e-first) | Nous avons déjà repris nos activités en privilégiant l’achat pérenne électronique lorsque disponibles. Continuons à acquérir les documents en format papier selon les disciplines et également pour l’achat de manuels francophones dont les accès numériques institutionnels ne sont pas disponibles pour certains éditeurs. | We are facing budget cuts this year and will need to reduce collection spending. Reducing print will probably be part of that reduction. | We will still have to buy print - but whether it the same volume, that probably won't be the case. UBCV has moved all approval plans to e-preferred and that will likely continue post-pandemic. | Yes, but we expect a decreased demand for print. We've been e-preferred for a long time | Probably we will but still under discussion. | Probably a return to past practice but under discussion | There will be some changes but is still under discusion | In the humanities we will still purchase print in future, but will also have to see. Perhaps some of those paper loving historians will have come around to ebooks during the pandemic. We are considering ceasing print altogether in disciplines that are not monograph-centric | Some departments in the humanities, religion, prefer print for sustained reading. The % of students that remain virtual will determine whether we go back to print-first for these departments. This interacts with new EBAs and publisher frontfile purchases in e- , so print overall will diminish.

| Comments / Commentaires | Although we're getting there! | Although we are an e-preferred institution, we will need to review our print purchases going forward. | Ideas, hunches but not a firm plan | We have been focusing on ebooks in the last few years and even more so since the pandemic hit. We do plan to keep on buying print monographs after the pandemic but we have not discussed any strategy yet. | Our planning will likely focus on specific areas such as: a) books in languages other than English (e.g. examining new ebook platforms such as Amalivre's); b) course materials/ textbooks; c) traditionally print-focused areas such as juvenile books; and d) the implications of library closures and budget cuts. | Our plan right now is to return to what we were doing before COVID (though maybe with even more e.) | It depends how long we're virtual.

| Comments / Commentaires | Since fall 2020, we are experiencing e-book accesses via VitalSource and VLeBOOKS. | Brief expimentation with VitalSource. Also looking at Casalini's Torossa for Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. | On utilise depuis quelques années GOBI, pour faciliter l'achat des livres électroniques. | We've dipped our toes in the VitalSource waters for textbooks we couldn't get through other means (though only for one publisher) | We set up with Elgar, and looked into VitalSource but found their model unpalatable. | Mostly continue with GOBI | Utilisons déjà Oasis depuis quelques années. | We have started working with some folks direct, and through other means to acquire both print and ebooks. UBCV has worked with some non-English language vendors to acquire ebook packages; previously these were only purchased in print. We explored using OverDrive to get ebooks not available to us through GOBI but in the end the authentication process was outside our usual methods and we didn't end up pursuing it. We already had in place many packages and EBAs direct with publishers. | We looked into a few (like VitalSource) but didn't get anywhere with them because of licensing or not hearing back. We're looking to use EBA more, have started a new one with Wiley and considering others (maybe not what you meant, but in my mind it's a new platform to acquire books). | Rialto | GOBI, Amazon. Plan to contact GoodMinds for Indigenous titles, when more staff on site to catalogue/label/receive.

| 5(d). How do you choose which group(s) to benefit? Comment sélectionnez vous les groupes qui en bénéficient? | We are exploring the Internet Archive access, as it seems to involve fewer restrictions on our print collection, but we need to learn more. | Our focus has been on getting Reserves requests (not really a group per se but collection priority) | Given that our buildings are not currently open on either campus to patrons, we would be limiting print general access anyways - so we simply turned our print records for items in HathiTrust to ebook links in our catalogue, rather than keeping them listed and causing further confusion for why they couldn't be borrowed. The users just don't see the print option right now. Some faculty were not happy with the decision as they still wanted print. | Access is only available right now to students, faculty and staff. Alumni and Community Users are bothered by this | Access is only for the same categories as for electronic resources (faculty, students and staff) | We've promoted Hathi and links are in our catalogue. We will purchase e-book duplicates for Hathi if there's high demand. Staff check the Internet Archive and GOBI before sending print requests on to curbside.
| Comments / Commentaires | Some users (paticularly faculty in Arts & Humanities) were frustrated by barring access to a portion of the print collection. However, we want to advantage as many users as possible, with the caveat that we need to give special attention to users who cannot come to campus | Since the beginning of our HathiTrust ETAS access in April 2020, we have promoted it and made it our main point of access for our print titles covered in that platform. If there are access issues for a class, for example, we will try to purchase an e-version (unlimited concurrent usres whenever possible) of the books needed. | W | We focus on the greatest benefit to the largest number of community members. | We investigated Internet Archive but decided not to go ahead. | We will "remove" ETAS access to our titles by delisting them in the monthly holdings updates we sent to HT and blocking the HT link in our catalogue so that we can make our print copy available if (1) a liaison determines that an e-version is not a better solution, (2) a faculty member, instructor, graduate student, or undergraduate student with an exceptional need has requested it, (3) the print version normally circulates (i.e. not on reserve), (4) the likelihood that it will be needed by someone else in the near future is low (based on past circ), AND (5) the requestor has made a convincing case that they need access to the physical item. | We did not implement either. However, as a member in a consortia with a large university library that did, our users were unable to request otherwise available print copies that became unavailable due to ETAS. Definitely felt by humanities faculty, particulalry over the summer months. Continues to impact senior students, again mostly in the humanities. | Biggest problems: textbooks, reserves, trade books only available in print (Overdrive, anyone?), lack of ILL for in-depth research
