| Institutional values, purpose, and impact -- on whom and what -- related to One Health
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Post | Section | Post Title and/or Body | Comments | Likes
| 1 | One Health Values | harmony between environment, human, and economy
| 2 | One Health Values | Healing
| 3 | One Health Values | sustainability, climate action, adaptation and resilience to climate change
| 4 | One Health Values | Mindfulness
| 5 | One Health Values | Connectedness
| 6 | One Health Values | Belonging | How do we convey this value? How are we demonstratung inclusion, and opportunity for all to join us? On our public-facing, and closed platform systems. | 1
| 7 | One Health Values | Diversity, Equity, Inclusion | I don't believe the language we use is inclusive. There are a lot of overused and densely academic words that are fine for faculty, but much of the staff and students might feel excluded. I believe we should have a "do not use" list of words in which we search for alternatives. Among the overused academic/corporate cliche words: leverage, stakeholder, anything -based, (evidence-based, community-based, place-based (and I for one don't know what that means). Among the academic words that reach few beyond faculty: iinterdiscipinarity (?); lived experience (what other kind of experience is there?); experiential (hands-on or real world or something even more specific might be better). intentional (do we do anything unintentionally?)
| 8 | One Health Values | Fellowship
| 9 | One Health Values | Knowing and looking out for one another
| 10 | One Health Values | Holistic
| 11 | One Health Values | Finding a sense of belonging and community
| 12 | One Health Values | Wellness
| 13 | One Health Values | One language
| 14 | One Health Values | Intentional Collaborations, which includes the community off campus
| 15 | One Health Values | Respect for each other, for community, for land and place.
| 16 | One Health Values | Intentionally engaging
| 17 | One Health Values | Fellowship
| 18 | One Health Values | holistic nature of the university and how it interfaces with the community, how can we leverage shared resources instead of competing and dwelling in scarcity
| 19 | One Health Values | DEIA
| 20 | One Health Values | Inclusive and community oriented
| 21 | One Health Values | Place-centeredness | I really don't like this word combo. I and probably many others don't know what this means. I think people may be too embarrassed to admit they have no idea what it means. I would like a word or word combo that is more specific.
| 22 | One Health Values | Quality education at competitive costs unique location tied to land and water Diversity of students, faculty, staff
| 23 | One Health Values | Servingness: what is to be a model institution for the majority minority of students?
| 24 | One Health Values | belonging, collaboration, community, relationships, being seen as an individual, respected and valued with dignity
| 25 | One Health Values | Ethics of care
| 26 | One Health Values | Representation of minorities, especially people with disabilities
| 27 | One Health Values | Individual dignity: Beyond collectivity
| 28 | One Health Values | Social mobility and belonging; what happened to Channel your potential? Inclusion, education, thriving, financial freedom, re-investing in our region | 1
| 29 | One Health Values | Education: Growth as whole individuals and community members
| 30 | One Health Values | Dismantle pressure to declare major by allowing space to explore | 1
| 31 | One Health Values | Diverse
| 32 | One Health Values | Scale: We are a small community serving campus in a large system. Sell locally that we are you: we are Ventura County. CI: We Are Ventura County. But for out of state students (western states compact) it’s the CI: Study in the Sun | 1
| 33 | One Health Values | CI: Small College, Big Impact
| 34 | One Health Values | CI:Study in the Sun: For students from colder states in the Western States Compact
| 35 | One Health Values | Create your space to learn and become part of a community where learning with friends and leaders propels future choices.
| 36 | One Health Values | Freedom to Learn: Thinking about the comment re: negative high school experiences; also setting us up contrary to states that try to control what students learn in college. | Freedom to Grow. Freedom to Change.
| 37 | One Health Purpose | Provide quality, affordable education Enhance educational experience through programs and experiences unique to the area
| 38 | One Health Purpose | Serving the community
| 39 | One Health Purpose | Enhance pathways to foster critical thinkers
| 40 | One Health Purpose | Prepare students not just for jobs but to navigate career navigation
| 41 | One Health Purpose | More than just a degree, having a wholistic education for growth, impacting your region and beyond
| 42 | One Health Purpose | civically engaged
| 43 | One Health Purpose | Culture & Identity: A foundation for our identity as an institution and our campus culture
| 44 | One Health Purpose | solving societal needs and solving real-world problems
| 45 | One Health Purpose | Who are we taking about? When we say community, who are talking about? Can we serve the business community and student communities, especially if they are not aligned on needs & want? So servingness to whom and to what end? How are we bridging and/connecting this gap? | I agree whole-heartedly with the above comment. Which community. The word "community" has been used so often, it is very nearly invisible. That's the peril of a threadbare word.
| 46 | One Health Purpose | Clearly show path
| 47 | One Health Purpose | Connect degree to place: A CI degree should leave a graduate uniquely qualified to navigate Central Coast economy/ecology/community
| 48 | One Health Purpose | Exposure/Experiential: giving students and families the opportunity to see higher education as a valuable exciting option.
| 49 | One Health Purpose | To serve and provide students with the support they need to thrive, graduate and meet post-graduate goals. To create and cultivate social mobility. To teach them how to become social change advocates for themselves and their community
| 50 | One Health Purpose | Prove that a college degree is valuable: Valuable to graduates of this university and to encourage others to come here
| 51 | One Health Purpose | Focus on current majors offered instead of trying to add new ones. Increase class options for current majors - more class times, different professors.
| 52 | One Health Purpose | No Ferry Necessary: Not a value but a slogan
| 53 | One Health Purpose | Chillin’ at Camarillo: Not a purpose but a slogan; rooted in Charlie Parker’s Relaxin’ at Camarillo, written after time here, but maybe catchier language?
| 54 | One Health Purpose | CI: We Are Ventura County
| 55 | One Health Purpose | Small campus, huge impacts. Student can still impact change here. It’s not as rooted as other universities, allowing flexibility in majors, experiences, educational experiences, etc.
| 56 | Intended Impact | Lens for decision making
| 57 | Intended Impact | Prosperity
| 58 | Intended Impact | Helping students to understand the value and meaning of a one-health education. How do we motivate students to be excited to choose higher education?
| 59 | Intended Impact | Establish CI as a leader in sustainability and climate action
| 60 | Intended Impact | Code switch in different settings
| 61 | Intended Impact | Student success: A place that students can come, feel supported and belonging, and succeed!!
| 62 | Intended Impact | Social mobility for students, their family and future generations - specifically for Ventura County. Creating leaders for the local community. Create a brand for the university. | I think social mobility is another word used most often among those who live in academia, and not those trying to feel like they belong. This is an easy word to make more inclusive: "A degree can raise your profile, your income, your entire family's status, the happiness you feel about your career and social standing." Social mobility is more of a cerebral word used among statisticians.
| 63 | Intended Impact | One vision and message about who the university is that is truly reflected on the campus. | Face the fact that CI is a commuter school and utilize that image to our advantage.
| 64 | Intended Impact | A small campus in a big system. we’re part of the CSU which has common values of social mobility and education for all. But we are a small campus: part of a large university with a small school vibe, a personal touch. Your faculty know you.
| 65 | Intended Impact | CSUCI: Your Faculty See You. Another slogan idea.
| 66 | On Whom/What | Western states compact. Students in certain states can pay in- state tuition to come to CI
| 67 | On Whom/What | Students, businesses/employers, community, land, animals, sea etc
| 68 | On Whom/What | People with disabilities | • The disabled community must be explicitly integrated in this and all CI initiatives. Using the term “inclusion” is not enough. • Ensure we have a truly inclusive and diverse representation of individuals in this planning and visioning to develop something that serves all, especially those who are typically underrepresented.
| 69 | On Whom/What | Growth and development of society, students, community.
| 70 | On Whom/What | Outside in perspective. Let community needs inform academic programs and learning opportunities
| 71 | On Whom/What | Campus Community: All faculty, staff, and administrators need a clear sense of who we are and where we're going to inform their work and develop community bonds
| 72 | On Whom/What | On state legislature
| 73 | On Whom/What | Students and families: Others should be a result of their progress and succes
| 74 | On Whom/What | K-8 Students
| 75 | On Whom/What | Students who typically go to UCSB/Cal Poly SLO. We should lean into our identity for nerdy local students as providing an intimate university experience, with small classes, internships, etc. | 2
| 76 | Words to Avoid | experiential learning | 2
| 77 | Words to Avoid | high-impact practices | 1
| 78 | Words to Avoid | Affordability: From EAB talk | A bachelor's degree is definitely not affordable anymore. Let's not lie to prospective students. | 1
| 79 | Words to Avoid | place-based assets | the -based and -centered hangers-on are terribly overused and really don't explain much. Vague. I still don't know what "place-based" means. | 1
| 80 | Words to Avoid | lived experiences | YES. Redundant. Just say life experience or just experience.
| 81 | Words to Avoid | Workforce readiness
| 82 | Words to Avoid | interdisciplinarity | And phrases like "theoretical and methodological pluralism. Fine for faculty but says "this talk is not for me" to everybody else.
| 83 | Words to Avoid | Leverage, stakeholder
