A Much Bigger and Broader Bible

Take a deep breath as we dive into a bigger and broader Bible.

Join us for this all-day event with renowned biblical scholar Hal Taussig and guests Chebon Kernel and others, as we delve into a world beyond the confines of the traditional Bible.

Take an intellectual journey that expands the biblical canon to include 150 fascinating ancient Jesus books discovered since the mid-1800s.

We’ll learn how these uncovered texts connect when placed in the twenty-first century's life, love, violence, trauma, gender-bendedness, queered, and open-mindedness.

Immerse yourself in the wonders of the past and explore how they can enhance your understanding of the present. This promises to be an eye-opening, enlightening experience that will inspire you to see the Bible in a broader, more inclusive light.

We look forward to embarking on this enlightening journey with you.

<p><strong>Wisdom Camp: Sexuality - Embracing Our Wholeness</strong></p>
<p>For many of us, sexuality has been a place of taboo and restriction — what we avoid, rather than what we embrace.</p>
<p> Many of us come from religious backgrounds that neglect bodies, vilify desire, and shun sexual and relational orientations outside of the cis-hetero nuclear family, depositing shame on everyone who doesn’t fit within very specific sexual “norms.”  We're told these norms are a part of both sacred scripture and common decency, all the while abusive sexual coercions are often happening behind the scenes. </p>
<p> Too often, the result is shame, shut-down, trauma, and confusion – in short, <em>purity culture. </em>Many justifiably turn away from this in our spiritual and embodied journeys. </p>
<p> But still we're left asking: So we’re deconstructing purity culture…<em>now what? </em></p>
<p> If we’re honest, many of us haven’t found our sexual ethics, insight and direction we seek from the culture at-large, either. The polish, performance, and profit motive of sexuality in the marketplace is hardly an improvement over purity culture.</p>
<p> Real role models are hard to find. Wise voices seem scarce. And we're not sure how to develop a more trusting relationship with ourselves! </p>
<p> Whether queer or straight, kinky or vanilla, trans or cis or nonbinary, asexual or hypersexual, monogamous or polyamorous or still questioning, how can we discover, deepen, and celebrate who we are, in ways that are resonant with our deepest spiritual values, including Jesus’ call to love, justice, and abundant living? </p>
<p>Wild Goose Festival is a space where people of diverse backgrounds bravely ask many of life’s most pressing questions, playing and listening to a symphony of responses. We offer a facilitated container leaning with curiosity, courage, and collaboration into specific questions with a cohort of people.</p>
<p><em>Wisdom Camp: Sexuality</em> invites us to reflect on and activate our <em>own </em>sacred sexuality, moving out of the shadows and into joyful play.</p>

The New Writer Workshop will help early-stage writers understand the ins and outs of navigating the very difficult challenges of writing, getting published, and marketing your work. Workshop leaders Brian McLaren, Kate Rademacher, and Brian Allain will shed light on the often confusing and opaque world of books. Brian McLaren will talk about the writing process … where inspiration comes from, how the writing process unfolds, how personality type and the writing process interact, and how the writing process can help you grow as a human being.
Kate Rademacher will lead participants in several exercises and discussions to support a practice of discerning how and what and when we are being called to write next. As new or emerging writers, it has never been easier to create and share content with local, national, and/or global audiences. As such, the world has become a very noisy place. In fact, the World Health Organizations says we are living in an infodemic. As you determine what content you are being called to create and share, consider all the options. Often, an important first step for spiritual writers and other content creators is to become quiet and listen for where the Spirit is calling us next. Practices of contemplative prayer, silence, and discernment are more important than ever before.
Brian Allain will lead the final portion of the workshop, focusing on business aspects of being a spiritual writer. We will discuss the importance of marketing, including your audience focus (who is the customer for your book), your elevator pitch (what benefits are you providing your audience), and marketing tactics (how to build a following for your work). We will also provide an overview of the spiritual publishing industry, discuss picking your path to getting published, and cover the pro’s and con’s of self publishing.

“I used to think that the top global environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse, and climate change. I thought that with thirty years of good science we could address these problems. I was wrong. The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed, and apathy, and to deal with these we need a spiritual and cultural transformation.” — James Gustave Speth Do you ever feel powerless, despondent, or afraid when you think about the climate crisis? Do you sometimes feel numb when you see pictures of historic floods and droughts, storms and wildfires, tornados and heat waves? You’re not alone. Psychologists are beginning to recognize climate grief as a growing phenomena. As caring and compassionate people, this feeling of helplessness can lead to denial or depression or despair, especially when we understand that climate change hits poor and marginalized communities way harder than more privileged people groups. To say nothing of the one million species on the brink of extinction. These feelings may paralyze us and prevent us from taking action on behalf of the planet and vulnerable people. Or we may become propelled by anger or fear, both fully appropriate in the face of massive injustice and tragedy, but not sustainable. Thankfully, our diverse intergenerational “Beloved Community” can create a better way forward, riding on the wings of the Wild Goose — the Celtic symbol for the Holy Spirit. At its root, the climate crisis is a spiritual problem, based in greed and selfishness and “othering” of nations, populations, and Creation itself. As people empowered by the spirit, we must look within ourselves for the resources to engage climate injustice in a healthy way. You are invited to join one of the world’s foremost climate leaders, author and activist Bill McKibben and acclaimed author, activist, and public theologian Brian McLaren for a day of conversation, reflection, and prayer about climate justice. Leaders from marginalized frontline communities affected by climate disruption will help us learn, as we heal and discover hope in loving community. We’ll move through awareness and acceptance and into hopeful — even joyful — empowerment for action. Together we will heal our bodies, minds and spirits through contemplative prayer practices, gentle yoga, and a silent walk in the surrounding forest. Long-time environmental activists will lead us in imagining creative ways we can accept God’s call to care for each other and our planet.

Centering Prayer is our intention to simply be present to the Creator, who is Love Itself. We teach our bodies to be still and rest in God. We strengthen our hearts to be fully known by Love (not always an easy task). Finally, we teach our minds to relax. We need not control or fear anything. Instead, we release thoughts, sensations, or distractions that keep us from being in the moment. A beautiful time to be held gently by Spirit. Scientifically, CP can re-wire our neuropathways allowing us to become less anxious and more conscious to each moment. This is a wordless prayer for union with God. The first few minutes at the Wild Goose session will be about how to do Centering Prayer. Then we will do a 20-minute group sit. Alone or collectively, Centering Prayer is a daily reminder of being loved completely, full stop! It ignites our knowing God and intrinsically being fully known.

Our God language matters because it is how we symbolize that which we hold as ideal. And while metaphor is all we ever get for the Mystery we call God, we have a big problem: our metaphors have gotten stuck. Due to a combination of tradition, sexism, power, and the limitations of language, our God-language and metaphors are almost exclusively masculine.

This harms all of us, and it needs to change. Thinking of God in masculine terms has enormous implications for how children of all genders grow up. It has contributed to a world in which girls, women, and anyone not traditionally male-bodied remain marginalized and seen as less than. Plus, the feminine qualities in all genders are undervalued.

Gender-neutral titles just don’t land in our bodies as neutral because of the thousands of years of patriarchal influence. Unless we explicitly use feminine pronouns and metaphors, the idea of the feminine as part of the divine image will remain unimaginable, and we will be limiting the ways in which the sacred mystery called God can interact in the world. Feminine God language is liberating for us all. Come experience the heart-expanding and liberating practice of God as Mama.

JoyDance is a spiritual, free-form, meditative movement practice. To put it differently, it’s an opportunity to move and dance freely in a space full of love and acceptance with God at its core. JoyDance begins slowly with a devotional inspired by the festival theme, Ignite. The devotional is accompanied by guided breathing and stretch appropriate for all bodies and abilities. Everyone is encouraged to follow the lead of their spirit and body as they move. As the tempo increases, the movement shifts from guided stretch to free-flowing dance, very broadly defined. Dance can be anything! We honor our bodies and the ways in which God’s Spirit is guiding us throughout the dance. We get to have the fun of co-creating in the space, allowing God’s spirit and the music to speak, and respond in whatever way feels best. This moving together in shared space opens spiritual opportunity for personal and collective transformation. Eventually, the music will slow along with the movement. We will settle the body with breath and stretch and then end the dance with a period of quiet meditation and relaxation. We rest and listen in this final act of receiving.

Worship is a hub for connection in most spiritual communities. It is the well we gather around. As many people from marginalized identities can tell you, it can also be the source of trauma, heartache and isolation. Where tradition can be a source of great comfort and continuity, it can also become a way of seeking control at the expense of the people who have gathered in the space. Many communities struggle to create rituals that go beyond surface changes honor the bodies and identities in our communities. In Worship as Worldbuilding, we will explore tools for developing rituals that are informed by shared values, unique community needs and a vision for the future.

Using tools they have developed for their own work, Cole guides participants through the concepts of intention, worldbuilding, witness and space as they relate to ritual. Participants leave with resources to guide their future work as leaders and collaborators in spiritual community.

Returning: A Shared Exploration of Ecospirituality is a co-creative conversation.
Each of us has inherent wisdom that holds what our souls long for, how we are called to be in service to the world and an inherent hunger to Return to Earth, our home, and in so doing, Return to one another.
We are travelling together in a tenuous time, where we are experiencing a collective shift full of grief as planetary beings and habitats are jeopardized, perhaps beyond the tipping point. Earth is calling for humans to witness and respond. Ecospirituality invites horizontal transcendence and focusing first on how we engage before what we do, opening our hearts to authentic relationship, alleviating disconnection, and building a foundation for justice and healing generating praxis.
This conversation is an invitation to explore our individual and shared manifestations of Ecospirituality. How are we awakening to our individual and shared purposes within the web of life? How are we fostering interconnection and harmony? How are we embodying a living relationship with Earth and creating space for others to discover theirs? The conversation will begin and close with a practice from the Universal Sufi tradition that invites grounding and bringing all voices together.

The pandemic forced churches to admit what they already knew was true - they’re not the primary spiritual formers in a family unit. The grown-ups in the home are.

Parents and caregivers have the opportunity to walk alongside kids and teens as they develop physically, emotionally, relationally, mentally, and spiritually. We can help cultivate spirituality and wonder in our families in a realistic way without the baggage that comes from harmful church experiences.

This workshop provides a framework for meaning-making beyond the walls of the church through grounding rituals, milestones, and rites of passage as children grow. We’ll work together to identify a sustainable rhythm and even create a milestone celebration together!

The Spirit anointed Jesus to set prisoners free, and we must carry forward that vision. Over the last few years more and more of us are discovering that the Prison Industrial Complex (including imprisonment, policing, and surveillance) is the wrong solution to social and economic problems. Our prison system is characterized by over-reliance on punishment, cruelty, and exploitation, and it preserves systemic inequalities and perpetuate cycles of poverty, trauma, and suffering. This system is fundamentally at odds with God's vision for the world. Our faith in a restorative God must empower us to fight for restorative justice. And at the same time, our rejection of a punitive God must empower us to fight against punitive justice.

Ada Maria Isasi-Díaz, who popularized the phrase “kin-dom of God” said, “the unfolding of the kin-dom of God happens when instead of working to become part of structures of exclusion we struggle to do away with such structures.” In the kin-dom, every individual is valued and treated with dignity and respect, so let’s learn together how Prison Abolition can help us embody the kin-dom of God in the world.

Is it possible that the poems and prayers of the ancient Hebrews (Psalms) be relevant to helping us address issues of today such as climate change and anti-racism/sexism? If so, what do we do with their patriarchal language, and occasional cries for vengeance? We have thought about this a lot, and look forward to discussing with you!

Poetry is a powerful tool for relaying truth, from Psalms to rap songs. The root of injustice is often the removal of a person’s voice. In this session we will dive into the personal justice that can be provided by putting Truth down on a piece of paper. We will read the works of poets with diverse identities like Joy Harjo, Terrence Hayes, Christian Wiman, Ocean Vuong, and Julia Koets to dissect how sound, rhythm, formal technique and radical subjectivity can push forward the hands of justice. Then we will do some writing using these tools!

Over the years, several theologians, Bible scholars, and lay people have done incredible research to highlight that the infamous clobber passages aren’t about demonizing LGBTQ+ people. But what comes next? Are those passages to stay out of our personal lectionaries forever? Or are there soul-nourishing lessons we can take from them once we remove the lens of hate through which we were introduced to them? Join Rev. Kali Cawthon-Freels as she shares what she’s learned from these passages and provides tips for how to engage them if you choose.

Can we practice with Jesus and Buddha both? Can we ignite Jesus’ fiery compassion while tending to the still small voice that illuminates the source of our mental suffering? Why would we even want to? Beth offers perspective on Christian and Buddhist practices that can help us draw from both traditions without making us feel like we must abandon our faith community. She draws on contemplation, compassion, wisdom, and cosmology themes found in early Buddhist writings, Jesus’ sayings, and Elijah’s Mount Horeb experience from the Old Testament.

Sometimes when we begin to question our faith or have doubts about our tradition, it can feel like we are wandering out into the desert. When we take a step back and honestly evaluate organized religion in the 21st century, many times it doesn't make any sense. The more we cling to it and try to save it, the worse it becomes. In addition, widespread abuse, cover ups and victim shaming causes some of us to question whether it will ever be right again.
Out into the Desert is an honest evaluation of organized religion in the 21st century, along with Karl and Laura's personal story as they journeyed through 20 plus years of ministry. Let Karl and Laura be your guide as they examine these questions and more!
● Is it okay to take some time off from religion and do this assessment?
● Are there things we can’t see because we’re too close?
● Where else can we find community?
● Is it possible to thrive outside of organized religion?
● If Jesus were physically here, would he go to church?

Those of us that are professional and volunteer helpers and healers are exhausted, perhaps more than ever before. Our work places, houses of worship and volunteer roles are full of opportunities for hope and healing, but they are full of toxic levels of stress. Sankofa, an expression of the Akan people of Ghana, refers to learning from the past. To go forward, we often need to look back. African proverbs are a gateway to wisdom that resonate with Judeo-Christian teachings. A legacy for all people, the proverbs of Africa and the African diaspora include rich variations of the Golden Rule, striking versions of loving one's enemies and welcoming the stranger, and stunning koans about losing your way to find your way. A new book compares proverbs from many cultures with Bible verses, affirming universal values such as compassion, forgiveness, patience, and repentance. They reflect a shared legacy and point us to a common destiny. The presentation will feature selected proverbs and explore the ways that African wisdom can lead us to deeper understanding of ourselves, God, and others.

`We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.'
~Marianne Williamson

There are many mixed responses to the phrase personal power, some may assume this means asserting control over others and question, how can that be healthy? Still in other cases, we may withdraw or want to avoid out of concern of not receiving approval from others. And so often, we believe it is out there somewhere. Simply, personal power comes from within, an intention towards self-awareness and consciously creating our life in alignment with one's values, needs, and gifts. Authenticity is a key ingredient and allows for greater confidence, healthier relationships, and greater purpose. It is inside all of us and the world is in need and yearning for us to let our authentic light shine!

Come join me for a conversation as we explore personal power; what is it, why is it important and key elements and practical ways to ignite it.

Are you horrified by the gun violence that overwhelms our nation? Is the Holy Spirit lighting a fire under you to do something about it?
Join us for a demonstration of Guns to Gardens as skilled volunteers use a chop saw to dismantle an unwanted firearm and begin the process of turning it into a garden tool. Participate in a liturgy of healing. And learn about training opportunities for your congregation to become a “chop saw church” and help prevent gun violence in your community.
Last year, in one year, nearly as many Americans were taken by gun violence as we lost in the entire Vietnam War. We need multiple ways to make a difference. In addition to education and advocacy, Guns to Gardens is a direct action that we can take in our own church settings. Every unwanted weapon that is dismantled by Guns to Gardens protects someone from gun suicide, family violence, unintentional shootings, or from being stolen and used in a mass shooting or other gun violence.
The Gun Violence Prevention Ministry of the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship offers regular “Action Circles” to help congregations learn how to “beat swords into plowshares.” Come see us and learn more.

Growing up as a White-passing, multiracial woman I have been looking for my place in pursuing racial justice in Christian spaces. I remember being three years old and being afraid of my Filipino grandfather who looked “different” and spoke with an accent. Even then race and racism had seeped into my soul. Unlearning this and working forwards practical, concrete actions to support racial justice takes time\, effort and willingness to commit to a marathon and not just a sprint.

In this workshop, we will spend time reflecting on productive, supportive and impactful ways to support racial justice in your community. We won’t be able to boil the ocean and do it all at once, but we carve out a foothold to get started. The workshop will be well suited for racial justice allies.

Jesus said there’s room enough, food enough, and grace enough for all of us. The U.S. is facing an unprecedented epidemic of censorship against books with LGBTQ and anti-racism content in libraries, schools, and churches. Censorship can strip away a person’s history, experience, and identity, and close the doors and windows that encourage living our authentic lives.
My calling is to ignite a passion for the freedom to read. The only epiphany I’ve had (a literal “light from God” moment) was to go to library school. This part of my story covers two decades when I moved from being a very unlikely graduate student who had lost faith in about everything, to supporting librarians and educators through my work with a national non-profit, and doing it with an enduring faith.
Attendees will learn about challenges to materials and explore ways to address censorship issues, and how to ignite a movement in their community. If we talk, educate, run for local office, and stand up against bans we can continue to make room enough for all of us and maintain safety and access to information in our First Amendment protected safe spaces.

Somewhere between opening hymns/songs, opening prayers, call-to-worships, choir selections, sermons, altar prayers, \ opening the doors of church \ for reception of new members, doxologies, benediction, religious patterns of conformity are implemented and spirits are too often broken.
Numerous congregations classified as Christian evangelical ( Southern Baptist, Missionary Baptist, African Methodist Episcopal, Church of God, Church of God in Christ, etc.) have transmitted religious toxicity which has and continues to cause religious detriment! In the midst of following rules, regulations, by-laws, covenants, and generational traditions, many churches have lost sight of their ordained purpose: Building healthy, Spiritual relationships and sharing unconditional love.
In this talk, my mother ( Mable) and I will talk about the need for laying of unhealthy religious traditions and developing healthy faith and community-based relationships. Each woman will discuss obtaining healing from church-trauma caused during their generations as well as sharing to re-establish healthy spiritual growth and recovery.

At almost any church you will find a statement that says, “All Are Welcome!” However, as we have witnessed over the past several years people are not flocking to be in these welcoming spaces—attendance has dropped, claims of faith have dropped, and sacred spaces are sitting empty and lonely. This is not just the small/rural churches either, there are city churches who fly the same welcoming epitaph, who are purging members as well. The million-dollar question is, “How do we convince people to come back?” Could the answer be to ask them? Could the answer to be giving them a reason to? There is a lot of conversation to be had around being welcoming and inviting, and in our modern times it might be worthwhile to explore that thin line. Come on in, the water is fine is a chance to have that conversation, exploring the gap between welcome and invitation. People are still pining for the sacred, and maybe a pleasant invitation to the party is all they really need. Let’s start the conversation and see if we can solve all the church’s problems… you never know!

Some of the men invited me to an ACOA meeting. I stayed for 12 years. I painstaking surrendered my preconceived notions and wishes, stopped using my history to continue my behaviors and opened my mind to the truth about the family I grew up in. It changed my life.

\Our task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.\ – Rumi

Most of us know the commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus is undoubtedly teaching his followers to love others well. But there’s a hidden nugget in there that’s easy to miss: Jesus is also saying you need to love yourself well in order to love others well.

Self compassion isn’t a luxury – it’s a necessity for living and loving well. And it ripples out for the benefit of you and those around you.

Modern research has revealed that people who practice self-compassion experience:

• Greater happiness
• More motivation
• More satisfying relationships
• Less anxiety and depression
• Better physical health

This cohort-based workshop will explore:
• Self-Compassion Self Assessment
• Examining Our Core Wisdom
• Research on Self Compassion
• 3-Centered Self Compassion Spiritual Practices
• The Joy of Self Compassion

The theme this year is Desire. What do you long for? How do you seek it? What is it like when you get it…or you don’t? This workshop lasts 90+ minutes and consists of a series of relational “games” (interactive exercises) designed to extend your awareness beyond your usual confined perception, beyond the mechanical thinking and impulses that drive so many of our interpersonal moments. We will explore imagination, boundaries and authenticity in how we show up in the world. We will seek to become alive to the divine all around us, breathing through us, in us - some mystics even say, ‘as us.’ We will practice the loving presence of ourselves and of each other. Sometimes creating profound connection and accessing deep wisdom is as easy as looking just beneath the surface with whoever you are with. Come play with the simple and profound art of truly being with another, as you are.

On Friday morning we will immerse ourselves into the Parable of the Good Shepherd (Matthew 18:12-14, Luke 15:1-7, John 10, Psalm 23) and the Parable of the Mustard Seed (Matthew 24:32, Mark 4:30-32, Luke 13:18-19).
*Godly Play is a unique approach to spiritual formation. It does not teach about knowing God. Instead, invitations are offered for meaning-making; for connecting with God, whom you already know. Through story, open ended wondering, and deep play, Godly Play supports: exploring existential limits, making meaning from spiritual experiences, coming close to the mystery of God.

Children can stay for the full morning session, or be picked up during the natural break between sessions from 10:50-11:00.
Upon registration each family is assigned a unique number, to be written on their wristbands, and ONLY adults with corresponding wristband numbers will be able to pick up designated children - wristbands MUST be worn by both caregivers and children in Children’s Tent programs, for ALL drop offs and pickups.
All Children’s Team members are volunteers, all of whom have undergone a recent background check process, and are required to maintain at least two-deep leadership during all program related activity.

Share your story. A Peace of My Mind invites you to respond to raise your voice and add your story to this public art project.

This year, we're asking the question, What do you want the world to understand?

Write your response to a short prompt, in 25 words or less. Get your photo taken (best and free-est B&W photo of you, ever!). Your image and words will be produced together and by the end of the festival, we will have a body of work that speaks to the spirit of the Goose. Every participant will receive a digital copy of their final photo with text. Last year we asked, “What has called you to action?” And you can see the responses here: https://apomm.net/2022/07/31/wild-goose-festival/

This experience will involve time for contemplation, reflection, and sharing on a number of contemporary mystic parables by the Indian-born psychoanalyst and Jesuit priest Anthony de Mello from his iconic book Song of the Bird. Part Quaker meeting, part Lectio Divina, we will invite the Spirit and our inner-knowing to guide us to a deeper understanding of what it means to be truly awake, aware, and alive in the world.

We will explore the theologies embedded in music and how they reflect our beliefs (or not). This experience will ignite curiosity about the songs we sing for worship and inspire others to write songs that are theologically appropriate for their setting.

I grew up with both beautiful spiritual experiences and traumatizing religious legalism. My journey through terror and into healing has opened my heart to anyone who feels marginalized, and I have endeavored with my art to build a bridge between God, Joy, Freedom - and anyone who feels rejected, marginalized, and hurt by Christianity and the culture at large.
My presentation is about using art to further and express our own healing and also to offer healing and a feeling of belonging to others. I would include viewings of some of my spiritual and/or healing images as well as a time of discussion and brainstorming about how we as a community can use our creative passions to heal.

Connection to Earth. Connection to Self. Connection to Community. The tapestry of our society is woven with threads of connection. What if our major life transitions were honored and intentionally recognized, including these three elements of connection? Intentional Rites of Passage can act as a map for weaving a strong community. In this session, we will explore how to gather as a community to honor life transitions and transformations. Jordan will provide some background information on the Hero’s Journey and share his experience of participating in and facilitating modern Rites of Passage experiences for adolescent boys. We will then explore ways in which parents and communities can create and participate in Rites of Passage experiences to mark transformation and transition for those in their community. Whether a young person is stepping into their journey towards adulthood, a couple is getting married, a leader in the community is stepping down, or an aging member of the community is claiming their elder-hood, how might we recognize and honor these transitions?

Your body can be your most powerful justice tool. In this interactive session, we’ll encounter the work of Brazilian Nobel Peace Prize nominee Augusto Boal, whose Image Theater games and other mindful and playful techniques allow participants of all backgrounds to ‘rehearse for life.’ Instead of only thinking and talking about conflict and change, we can access deep wisdom to devise practical justice strategies. Participants will choose social change concerns for the workshop focus and will discover strategies and scripts based on their own shared experiences. No experience is necessary and all bodies are welcome. We’ll return to the world ready to act for justice.

Kids wonder it in their mind, but don’t have the language to ask “Tell Me the Truth About Racism.” We’ve answered their question in a six part narrative, suitable for children age 4 - 94, in a gentle, faithful, humanizing way that invites listeners to wonder together. Through faith, we simply state that racism tells us a lie about who people really are. Racism says that some people are better than others based on the color of their skin, but through the radical equality of God we can remember the truth of our identity as children of God.

The stories are part history, part faithful reflection, and part wondering to cover 500 years of the American story of racism. These stories separate the lies about ourselves, our neighbors, our world, and even our churches from the truth that we can envision through God. That, friends, is Good News, for all people, and allows these stories to inspire liberation into the fullness of life that God dreams for all of us - that we might love one another as God loves us.

Imagine a practice that takes you into the current of divine light. A heart centered experience where the flow of love is ignited. You start out by becoming still, slowly and consciously taking in the breath of life. As you begin to sing 5-min Christ-centered devotional chants, the sound current penetrates into every cell, and harmony in your body expands. It’s time to close your eyes while you listen to a guided meditation that takes you inward to your heart and soul, exploring your mind, emotions and will. The goal is to surrender it all to God, settling into Spirit and Truth. Your heart is cleansed and purified, your soul is surrendered to His Higher Power. You end in a guided prayer, prompting you to become thankful, to admit struggles, to forgive, to ask, and to receive. You are connected to the Light, Life and Love of Christ and you are lighter, more peaceful and liberated from darkness.

We all have a meta-story that is made up of micro-stories. Our life is an ongoing meta-story that does not yet have a final chapter. Each chapter is a unique micro-story of its own. More frequently individuals are using permanent body art (tattoos) to indelibly mark themselves with meaningful metaphors for their life journey.

Even though it is a colloquialism that a picture is a worth a thousand words, Western spirituality has historically been cognitively dense and aesthetically poor. However, younger Westerners are now showing in their bodies that \Hearing something a hundred times isn't better than seeing it once\ (百闻不如一见, p bǎi wén bù rú yī jiàn)

Though your voice may be overcome by sleep and hunger before being able to describe with words what a painter is able to depict in an instant, the drawing shows the viewer at one glance what might otherwise be spread over ten pages in a book.” Come and let your body show: Un bon croquis vaut mieux qu'un long discours.

However, Worte sind nicht verboten!

Jesus talked about peace as a powerful force flowing in and through us and all of creation. Would you like more inner peace? Would you like to be a force for peace in the world? This session will lead participants in an experience of inner peace and empowerment to share peace through an encounter with the peace that surrounds us in the Earth, Waters, and Sky. Our ritual will honor the divine presence that surrounds us and connect with the peace of Christ present in all things through embodied prayer, chanting, and movement. Participants will be invited to receive anointing with oil as a sign of blessing and integrating peace into our beings. This experience is co-led by Joe Michael and Kenneth McIntosh. Joe is a Disciples Minister, Druid Ovate, and founder of ChurchAsFolk.org. Kenneth is a writer, educator, and Pastor best known for his book Water from an Ancient Well: Celtic Spirituality for Modern Life and who has given workshops and retreats in the US and British Isles.

Parenting While in a Major Faith Shift

Faith shifting, deconstruction, and reconstruction of a faith that fits our current values and paradigms is a challenging, exhausting, and slow process under any circumstances. Doing so while also parenting children can feel utterly overwhelming. Are we hurting our children? What about their spirituality and friends at church? How do we navigate the often suffocating pressure from well-meaning family members who worry that it isn’t just our eternal salvation that is now at risk but also our children’s? We parents in a faith shift need to connect and hear from each other that we aren’t alone. We need to share our resources, ideas, hearts, and space to be on this journey together.

Additional panel members are Micky ScottBey Jones and Matthew Paul Turner, both good friends of the Goose!

Social Presencing Theater is an awareness-based systems change methodology for groups. Social Presencing Theater (SPT) helps make systems visible through a shared embodied experience. It includes various tools or methods. We will be using the SPT method called 4D mapping, a tool that makes a social system visible, like a school or health system, in order to gain new insights about potential systems change. Participants hold various roles: facilitator, scribe, space holders, and characters. During the practice we embody two different states of the system, the current stuck reality and the emerging future reality. After embodying the current state (Structure 1), participants are invited to use body mindfulness and spatial awareness to move to a new embodied form or shape, not based on preconceived notions, manipulation, or forced thinking, but simply moving. We take note of what shifts are happening and what is surfacing as we move to this second shape of an emerging future reality (Structure 2). We reflect on the two states (Structure 1 and 2) and the movement in between. Through reflection we gain insight into our system and future action.

Wild Goose Festival is the perfect venue to reignite and share an episode or two of the Books, Bible, Beer & Queer (BBBQ) podcast! Joyce McIntosh (who does happen to be a queer librarian, Christian, beer fan, and mom, sought a creative outlet during the pandemic after the monthly stand-up show she co-produced, Mother Cluckers Comedy, ceased hosting live shows.

With a broad title, listeners of all backgrounds can find something to relate to in BBBQ episodes. For the past year Joyce has focused her energy on her day job, helping librarians and library educators navigate challenges to information and materials in public and school libraries and educating library staff and community members about intellectual freedom and censorship.

At the Goose 2023 Joyce plans to reignite BBBQ with new episodes, potentially sharing the mic with:
- An author whose titles have been challenged or who engages with topics of Christianity and sexuality in their work and/or
- The people who bring us Beer & Hymns! If we do that, perhaps we’ll get some singing going for an intro.!

Please join in on the fun! You can find episodes of Books, Bible, Beer & Queer on most platforms.

A SHORT FILM OF LIFE AND DEATH
