BEFORE PABLO HONEY
(On A Friday, Headless Chickens, Dearest, Shindig, Medicinal Sounds, 1986 Demo Tape, 1988 Demo Tape, 1990 Demo Tape, April 1991 Demo Tape)
(1985) (On A Friday is established in Abingdon, Oxfordshire)
(1991) (Radiohead is signed to EMI records)
(September 1992) (Work on Pablo Honey begins)
The band members of Radiohead met each other sometime during 1985 while attending Abingdon School in Abingdon, Oxford, in which they used the working band title of On A Friday. Throughout their tim under this moniker, they would experiment with outlandish band names such as "Shindig" and "Dearest" according to Ed in a BBC Radio 6 Interview. However, in 1991, when they signed a label contract with EMI, they would ultimately settle on the name Radiohead based on the Talking Heads song "Radio Head." The cover for this era is a photograph of Jonny Greenwood while he and the band went under the On A Friday moniker.

The earliest circulated demo tape by the band comes from 1986, when the line-up included a saxophone player, Rasmus ("Raz") Peterson. Jonny had not yet joined his brother's band. This tape was apparently recorded at the music room of Abingdon School.

Before Pablo Honey??? [V1]
(Everyone, The National Anthem)
The bassline for this song has been said to originate from a highschool jam session. some time between 1984-85.

“Thom demoed the song on the four-track when we were all at school when we were about sixteen or seventeen around like a Boss Doctor Rhythm drum machine and a sort of guitar fuzz bassline.” - Colin Greenwood.

Pablo Honey(September 1992) (Pablo Honey begins a 3 week-long production)
(November 1992) (Recording on Pablo Honey finishes)
(02/22/1993) (Pablo Honey is released)
Pablo Honey is the debut studio album by Radiohead. Notably during this album's development, "Creep" would be released as a debut single on September 21st, 1992. Although the song would initially be unsuccessful, other than being popular on American alt-rock radio, it would become an international hit when it was reissued on Pablo Honey. The song became the most popular Radiohead song, so much so that the band actively resented the song for a long period of time.

(OKNOTOK, OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997 2017)
(3/13/1995) (The Bends is released)
(05/21/1997) (OK Computer is released)
OK Computer is the third studio album by the English rock band Radiohead, released on May 21st of 1997. With their producer, Nigel Godrich, Radiohead recorded most of OK Computer in their rehearsal space in Oxfordshire and the historic mansion of St Catherine's Court in Bath in 1996 and early 1997. The album would see great critic acclaim and praise and establish Radiohead as a household name.

This era of the band's production is the one that the community, as of 2024, has the most info about and demos available.

Before OK Computer...(03/13/1995) (The Bends is released)
(January 1996) (The band takes a break from touring The Bends to focus on the album)
The band, at this point in time, had just gotten off of The Bends and were touring the album. Midway into the tour, they were commissioned by Brian Eno to contribute a song to The Help Album, a charity compilation organised by War Child. The entire album was recorded on September 4, 1995 and was to be released in the same week. On that day, Lucky, the most influential track to the sound of OK Computer, would be recorded and mixed. Though Lucky as a single failed, Radiohead would take inspiration from the song, with Thom Yorke stating "'Lucky' was indicative of what we wanted to do. It was like the first mark on the wall (for OK Computer)." In January 1996, the band would take a break from the touring of The Bends, marking the severence between their old sound and their shift into their new sound of OK Computer.

During a soundcheck, bandmate Ed O' Brian made the high-pitched guitar sound heard on the song. On September 4th, 1995, Radiohead, with the attendance of Nigel Godrich, finished recording on the song in 5 hours.

Yorke would cite this song as the song that would shape the sound and mood of OK Computer, stating "Lucky was indicative of what we wanted to do. It was like the first mark on the wall." This version of the track was found on MD126, an early album copy for OK Computer.

OK Computer (Oxfordshire Sessions)(January 1996) (The band takes a break from touring The Bends to focus on the album)
(September 1996) (Nigel is brought on, and the band moves recording sessions to St. Catherine)
Following their break from The Bends touring, the band would start their recording sessions for their next album at Chipping Norton Recording Studios in Oxfordshire, their hometown. The band would reportedly experience difficulty maintaining a set vision for material, with Phillip stating "We're jumping from song to song, and when we started to run out of ideas, we'd move on to a new song ... The stupid thing was that we were nearly finished when we'd move on, because so much work had gone into them." This is reflected with the variety of material from this time period, with the various demos and ideas with interesting but incomplete concepts. With all the work the band were doing, and the little they seemed to accomplish, the band would move recording to St. Catherine's Court and bring on Nigel Godrich, who would become the bands long time co-producer, even up until the modern day, earning him the title of the "5th member of Radiohead."
