12 | World Language Advocacy on a Dime: Empowering Students to Teach! | This innovative Elementary Spanish Mentor Program empowers and encourages intermediate/advanced language students to advocate for world language education and impact the learning of many students. High school language students use what they are learning in class to mentor and teach elementary students using comprehensible input methods and acquisition driven instruction. In this session, participants will learn how to model teaching for their students, create compelling lesson plans that will empower their students to teach elementary novice level language classes. Participants will work together to create curriculum geared toward growing an elementary FLEX program, that will advocate for teaching and acquiring a language. | This session highlights a language program that will provide the opportunity for intermediate/advanced students to collaborate, serve their community, gain perspective and actually consider teaching as a meaningful profession. These students are mentoring and teaching language using comprehensible input method and acquisition driven instruction that they experienced in their classes to teach language to novice learners in their district.
