Addressing Behavior with Students Receiving Special Education: Avoiding Due Process DisputesThis training is geared for building level administrators, but we welcome any educator in the general education or special education settings. As a great many due process hearings and state complaints include a behavioral component, this training will provide information on behavior and discipline for students in the special education population, procedures necessary to better address and document behavior, as well as some examples of past complaint and due process hearing findings. The training will provide an opportunity to collaborate while looking at examples of student discipline situations that commonly occur, and how the school administration, and the IEP team, might address the scenarios to give the best opportunity for avoiding escalation of the issue, or how to best proceed if a situation has escalated into a more intense level in the dispute resolution process.Jared HogueJune 18$15

Essentials 2-Defining BehaviorThis 6 hour training is fundamental to the understanding and implementation of successful data collection and behavior change. The information is derived from nearly 50 years of research on individuals with problem behavior and is based on research in Applied Behavior Analysis. Just as teachers must define the skills and knowledge they teach in academic areas, they must identify the behaviors and expectations they hold for students. When students do not meet those expectations, teachers need to know how to identify behavior and define behaviors in order to address the reduction or elimination of target behaviors and increase of replacement behaviors. Defining behavior in measurable and observation terms is a prerequisite for measuring behavior and changing behavior. Defining the Target Behavior is one of four Essential Skills Trainings that are beneficial to attend prior to any of the Tier 2 trainings being provided throughout the school year. The Essentials will be required in 2018-19 for the development of school district teams that will receive in depth training and coaching toward building local capacity.Mary Ann Mcintyre & Sheryl HahnJune 19$15

This training will introduce you to a NEW, FREE resource provided by Open Up Resources called Illustrative Mathematics 6-8 Math Curriculum (IM).
This curriculum provides:
• Vertical alignment information (K-HS) and differentiation strategies in the easy-to-follow teacher notes.
• Student-friendly learning targets at the beginning and end of each lesson to encourage students to take ownership in their own learning.
• Diagnostic and End-of-Unit Assessments, as well as Mid-Unit assessments for longer units.
• Built-in support for English Learners and Students with Disabilities within each unit, rather than providing in supplemental materials.
The initial three-day training is an opportunity to learn all the curriculum has to offer and the instructional strategies paired with it:
Day 1: A Focus on the Resource - A Look at the Curriculum and its Coherence
Day 2: A Focus on Pedagogy - Implementing the Curriculum
Day 3: A Focus on YOU - Curriculum Deep Dive and Planning (Note that Day 3 will be a combined training at CMASE with other teachers joining us from the Guy Fenter and Harrison Cooperative areas.)

The training continues with follow-up support during the school year to ease the transition from professional development to implementation in the classroom with real students. We will customize support for each school based on your expressed needs for your students. Participants will register for follow-up support separately.

This curriculum offered by Open Up Resources is funded by a grant from the Gates Foundation. Curriculum for Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 are being piloted FY19 and will be available FY20. Open Up Resources plans to provide K-Algebra 2 vertically aligned curriculum in the near future.

The Essentials will be required in 2018-19 for the development of school district teams that will receive in depth training and coaching toward building local capacity. Participant Instructions:
1. Download all materials and keep them in the order of the download.
2. Bring the printed materials with you to training.
3. Bring your computer.
