Methodological notes

The projects selected are funded by the EU as part of FP6 or FP7 or ESA (Mariss project) and aimed in part or in full at preventing refugees and migrants from accessing the territory of the EU. The amounts available only show the public part of the funding.

Ownership links are only partial. The groups we highlight are, in turn, owned by other groups. Several beneficiaries are not independent companies but have ownership links not shown here.

In case of joint ventures, we attributed the "ownership" property to the senior partner in the JV. This is relevant for Thales Alenia Space and Telespazio, JVs between Thales and Finmeccanica.

Some companies, especially Fraunhofer, specialize in managing EU grants. Their central presence in the dataset is therefore normal.
