Paid Leave

State Disability Insurance (SDI)
SDI provides partially paid leave. For pregnancy you'll automatically receive 4 weeks of SDI before your due date, 6 weeks after you have your baby if you have a vaginal delivery, and 8 weeks after if you have a C-section. It can be extended by your medical provider up to a total of 52 weeks. Apply 9-49 days after your first day of leave.

Paid Family Leave (PFL)
PFL provides 8 weeks of partially paid leave and does not have to be taken all at once. Must be used by baby's first birthday. Apply within 41 days of the start of your claim.

Job-protected Leave

Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL)
PDL provides job protection while you are taking leave through SDI for up to 4 months.

CA Family Rights Act (CFRA)
CFRA provides 12 week of job-protected leave, does not need to be taken all at once and can be used while you are taking leave through PFL.

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
FMLA provides 12 weeks of job-protected leave and in most circumstances for pregnancy and baby bonding runs concurrently with PDL and CFRA.
