Good concepts,poor layoutBy Mattis-Patron.Saint.of.ChaosI have been studying forthe GMAT for a while and when I saw this book available, I wassuper excited. I am a big fan of Max and couldn't wait to pick thisup and learn some new techniques.The concepts in the book are onpoint however, the book was edited really badly. The layout doesntmake sense, there are a ton of misprints and mistakes. The entirebook seems like it was copy pasted from a Word document. This couldhave easily been avoided had a few test copies been floated tostudents. I could edit this book in a few hours and make the layoutmuch more user friendly - this screams laziness.Overall, it is agood book and if you want to pick up additional quant skills, Ihighly recommend it. Not for everyone - a different approach to GMATmathBy GMAT Club (Expert)This book assumes a fair knowledge of GMATmath rules and principles. If you are a new test-taker and lookingfor your first book, this is probably not for you as you will befrustrated with a lack of a structured approach or basics overview.It is more of a finishing school than a primer. Just to give you anidea, the book opens up with mid/advanced level word problems.Onthe other hand if you are getting above Q45, and have coveredarithmetic, geometry formulas for circle area, you can definitelyimprove further. Here is what you will find inside:- New approachesto questions that you may have struggled with or could not get,such as DS, Word Problems, Groups, or sets- 200 realistic freshGMAT questions (I had a few test my attention, such as primeinteger questions)- Time management improvements- Good tips andreminders for a number of question types (yes/no DS questions,multi-answer DS)- Suggests to avoid traps and careless mistakes dueto division, skipping a step, or fraction errorMost of thequestions in the book are worthwhile attention and will make you abetter test-taker by either teaching you or exposing you to a typeyou may not be familiar with. The advice and techniques, however,will not apply to all of your questions on the Test, only theharder ones and only a fitting certain patterns. I would estimatethat someone going for a score of Q49 or higher would get thebenefit of these techniques on about half the questions. Someoneshooting for Q44, probably only see hard questions that this bookdeals with in 33% of the cases. In addition, there is not much youcan do with calculation questions of any difficulty - be it primenumbers, standard deviation, or permutations - those questions testyour knowledge of formulas rather than logic.Important to mention,the book is unorthodox - it is laid out differently from others(mentioned already), and does not follow a typical "teaching" plan;instead it focuses on certain areas, mistake areas, and questiontypes. Some of the rules and strategies will be very different fromwhat you have learned in other books or courses and your ability touse them will depend on how much you are willing to trust them andrely on them. As with any strategy, it is only good as long as youfollow it. As its nameresembles, Math Revolution has revolutionized the way studentconfronts the GMAT Quant problems. Mr.Lee's teaching method hasenabled "any" students both to easily grasp the intricate yetsophisticated strategy to cope with logical-quantitative reasoningquestions and to explore the labyrinthine byways of the GMAT math,which is remarkably trickymdash;although the range of mathematicalconcepts is relatively narrow, the way GMAC invents problems isextremely sophisticated.
