Why might this be Important?NHANES assesses the health and nutritional status of US adults and children, and is unique in that it combines interviews and physical examinations. This revision adds the following survey content: WIC participation, B to 24, and infant and toddler formula. Indicators of oral, bone, reproductive, and mental health will be paired with other variables or exam/lab results. Other relevant content includes food security and nutrition program participation, dietary supplement use, and weight history/self-image/related behavior.

Q1. How is this agency project necessary or valuable to your practice, your colleagues' practice, or the work of the Academy? For example, do you see clients/patients who 1) participate in WIC or other nutrition programs, 2) care for infants or toddlers, 3) regularly use dietary supplements, or 4) have unique weight-related self-image or related behaviors? Please provide examples, success stories, and/or cited references to support your case.- It could be extremely useful in filling some gaps left by the WIC Participant and Program Characteristics Report. It would be helpful to have expanded information on WIC enrollment including how far along a mother was in pregancy. Also, it would be useful to capture information regarding why women delay enrolling in WIC during pregancy as well as the number of women who join post-delivery versus during pregnancy (including why). -Another DPG member also echoed the prior comment that knowing when a pregnant mother started her partpciation in WIC (1st trimester, 2nd, or later) would be very useful. This member added that it would be helpful to know if the mom (not just the infant) continues participation after delivery. Also she shared that it would be useful to ask the participant if appropriate weight gain was discussed by her OB during pregnancy or if the participant was told that she was gaining appropriate weight during pregnancy. -Regarding adding survey content for B to 24, a member recommends that the CDC works with the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) to add more infant feeding questions that will help support the work of the DGAC. Since the B to 24 category is new in DGAs for 2020 and there is not a lot of strong evidence in the current literature to help answer the questions the DGAC is charged with answering in order to form guidelines. There is an opportunity with the revision of the NHANES Questionnaire to "fill-in-the-gaps" with data that the NHANES can help collect. The Survey results might not steer the 2020 DGAs but will certainly be valuable for 2025. This member appreciates that the CDC will be adding these questions to the Survey but certainly they need to add more, and suggests they review the questions DGAC will be trying to answer as a starting point as to what types of questions they should ask (regarding type (human milk or infant formula), frequency, and amount).

Q2. Does this agency project place an undue burden on the time or resources of your company, facility, department, agency, clients, or other population, and if so, how? For example, is the means of collection inappropriate, will it simply require too much time, etc?
8
Q3. How can the agency redesign this project to better serve the interests of your company, facility, department, agency, clients, or other population? Please specify which questions or content that should be rethought or redesigned.
9
Q4. If your answer to Q2 indicated an undue burden, how could this burden be reduced (e.g., reducing number of questions, placing survey online, using an app, etc)?
